Holy shit. I backed this and there have been numerous delays. Hopefully this means that it is coming in a few months!

Nice, while I didn't back at that level, I cant wait to see how the game itself plays. I assume people are allowed to stream/upload footage for everyone else to watch.

Barebones, as expected. 3 "stages" to try out: Tropical forest, desert and an auto-scrolling JUMP JUMP SLIDE SLIDE (minus SLIDE SLIDE) section on conveyor belts. Forest and Desert have one transformation available to Shantae each: Monkey and Crab Shantae, respectively. Monkey is as you would expect if you've played the other games, Crab form was originally from the cancelled Shantae Advance and (so far) is only useful when in the water, allowing you to sink to the bottom to explore. You can also squat to utilize crab's shell as a shield, but didn't get to try it out on anything.

There's no dialogue or anything, just make it to end of each section while avoiding/fighting enemies and collecting gems. So pretty much classic Shantae, the controls are as perfect and tight as ever. I noticed the framerate dip when you approached the forest waterfall's mist, otherwise it was (mostly) solid 60fps. Hope they can iron this out for the final.

EDIT: Someone ripped the music from the demo. Seems there's some Pirate's Curse music in there too for some reason?

Things:
- I like how all the enemies die like they were just bodied in Smash Brothers.
- If you stay on the title screen a bit, Dance Through the Danger starts to play.
- You can juggle the Sandpeedle's body parts for extra gems.

I remember when developers used to release demos of their games for free instead of making you pay $45 years ahead of the game's release.

They really need to bite the bullet and go for a full on animated look for the environments next time they use this engine, but this looks much, much nicer than Ducktales did. Spritework is gorgeous, even if her idle animation is still completely ridiculous.

Game design has some big shoes to fill after Pirate's Curse, though. Can't help but wonder if the other playable characters will end up being more fun than Shantae and her transformation schtick.

Some footage that I streamed on twitch and exported to youtube.

It's still processing so it looks like crap. I'm doing some edits on the stages and working it into my impressions piece as well.

Impressions and images here.

Has anyone figured out a way to get that chest at the bottom right of level one? or is that just some tantalizing off-limits morsels...

You can't. You probably need Crab or Mermaid form to get under there, and on that level all you have is Monkey. There's actually quite a few off-the-path routes you can find in the levels that you can't access by normal means.

Figured as much, I was just wondering since they said the levels were slightly modified to avoid spoilers if that also meant there was temporary solution that would access the chest. Ah well, still a great demo.

The game is reeeeally fluid. I was a bit skeptical about the backgrounds from some of the development screenshots, but it's really fluid in motion and plays great. The environmental and platform details are a bit sparse, but it's also just a demo (each level in the demo is really short, too).

Shantae's transformations are also adorable.

I didn't back at $45 but I feel a lot better about this now. I was concerned that the 2.5D thing would be a mistake, especially compared to that fun port of the handheld game.

Just did a quick play of the demo.
Game looks really nice. Already great music too. Not surprising with Shantae, of course.
Controls are quick and responsive.
Guess most of it has already been mentioned.

Looking forward to the full game.

FYI, the chest crashes the demo when opened. So it was never meant to be reached.
