New sound effects and music block customization - You can create your own sound effects in Super Mario Maker, with some sounds even generating fun visuals! And by shaking a classic Note Block during level creation, it becomes a Music Block. When something activates one of these Music Blocks, it will play a note based on its height, allowing players to arrange songs of all types.
This is kind of cool

I'm watching the video but that sound customization description is REALLY COOL! Hype levels increased. This game is gonna be something. Like the Photoshop of Mario Bros games.

Blech, shouldn't have to wait so long for all the stuff to be available, should be more "Spend 30 minutes to unlock the next set NOW, spend another 30 to unlock set 2 then" and so on

Edit: Oh, the note block implementation sounds neat, could make for some Rayman Music style stages

Of all the games to have a slow roll-out of content......why this

I could see them releasing a premade course like once a day or something (a daily challenge?) but doing that with creation tools is dumb

I see The Pokémon Company finally got that stick out of their ass & allowed the Pokémon Amiibos to work in this game. Hopefully this continues to be a thing in future games that support Amiibos.

That being said, I really hope the 30fps thing for NSMBU Mode is only for the testing of a stage & won't impact the game when you're just playing the stage without editing it.

Question: I see the version available for preorder on Amazon comes with the art book; do all retail versions come with this? Or is there a game-only release?

I ask because I really want the art book but haven't decided on an Amazon preorder yet.

That's the day after launch...

It takes a few days to unlock everything though. What's the point? Why not have them unlock immediately.

I mean it's not that much of a deal breaker and more of an annoyance but it doesn't make much sense to implement it that way.

I get that they don't want to overload people with tools, level creators can be daunting to start with after all.
But I wish getting the full selection wouldn't take so long.

Otherwise I'm hyped to the heavens.

Yeah, all physical version come with the book, it contains arts, tips and apparently videos (the code under some pics) to show some stuff you can create.

Ok yeah, just catching up as I had Pokémon news to cover on my site. Apologies.

I do agree that sucks. Wanted to make some evil levels for my brother on launch day :(

And that amiibo scrolling at the end confirms one thing: Sonic is a compatible amiibo. Mega Man, too. I bet I can guess his sprite.

Now I need a Sonic.

Wait, what.

You have to unlock assets daily?

I hope I'm misunderstanding something because that's a HUGE put off.

I get that they don't want to overwhelm younger players, but surely make it an option.

I just can't get on with forced unlockables ala mobile games in a full console title, it just doesn't sit right with me. I want all the content from day one, and optional content that can be unlocked later.

Hope there's an option or code to unlock everything. Don't personally like the idea of being drip-fed bits of content over the course of a week and a half. Guess I could turn the system clock forward ten times on the first day after playing 5 minutes each time.

What? You'll have full toolset in a week it sounds like this. I doubt this is about overwhelming younger players as much as it's likely to improve course quality during the first few days.

This isn't really a put-off at all for me. It'll probably be good for the large majority of users (young or older) to focus on a subset of the tools / items at a time. Even if one doesn't think it's going to benefit them (which I'd imagine is most people, heh). I can see how it'd be off putting, though.

I think limiting the creation tools at first is an ok approach so we can familiarize with the level editor. I imagine it can get a bit overwhelming if we get the whoooole set of tools available on day one. Better practice with what till be available on day one and once we got experience with those, the new set of tools will be available to incorporate them.

God Damn It. This is the worst nightmare. Guess i'm doing system clock manipulation.

THE NEXT DAY!?

I have this pre-ordered and don't know if I'll keep it yet. I fear almost all user created levels will be try to be as difficult as possible without the brilliance of something like Kaizo Mario. Hope I'm wrong!

Using your own voice clips will probably be only for offline courses. I really dislike the gradual rollout of assets despite understanding why they chose to do it that way.
