I don't think that was as much as an Andromeda trailer as it was a kind of seminal look back of sorts with Jennifer Hale reprising FemShep. And to add to that, no Shepard in Andromeda as confirmed by BioWare a long time ago.

That said, why would they have the title card for Andromeda at the end of the trailer?

EDIT: Actually, now someone's mentioned it to me when talking of the video, it seems more like this is a video in which Shepard is passing the torch to the next-generation, whoever we play as in Andromeda. In which case, the video makes a lot more sense.

Hmm, maybe they'll establish that Shepard was officially female in the new series.

Otherwise, not much you can take from that. Not even a year given for release date.

Can't realise analyse much from that, but it had a Star Trek feel about it, as if exploration will be a major theme.

Edit: I'm definitely down for a game where you unlock the intricacies within the plot based on how much you want to explore the galaxy (preferably something more than just text-based lore entries). Bioware plis.

The trailer makes me think it would be an exploration game but I feel they will go the shootbang way once again.

I love Jennifer Hale's voice. Hope this doesn't mean she won't voice the female PC. Make in-universe jokes that PC sounds just like Shepard:)

Said this in the N7 thread, but that shot of the ark trundling along to Andromeda at regular Mass Effect FTL speed (as opposed to just scooting over there through a newly-discovered Mass Relay), suggests that this game's going to be completely separated from the ME world we're familiar with not only through space, but maybe time, too. It might be that the ark takes a few hundred (or thousand) years to get to the Andromeda galaxy (with all passengers in sci-fi-magic hypersleep), so this game might be set way in the distant future of the series.

Either that or they just thought it was a cool shot for the trailer.

Got to be honest, it wasn't anything amazing and Shepard actually kinda drags it down further. I don't wanna think about those RGB endings having anything to do with Andromeda.

Doubt that, 90% of the players played male or something. My main one is male too so would be pretty lame if they changed it for everybody. Then again Shepard won't be in this so it might have nothing to do with it besides this line.

Meh, they probably just got Hale because she was recording for SW:tOR or something

If it takes place after Mass Effect 3, it must be really really really far away. Far away that any influences made and any consequences of choices made in the past games are irrelevant. Far away that even the green, blue, or red ending wouldn't reach.

With that said we won't even see earth. Perhaps they'll mention missing earth and the citadel and make call backs or references to it.

Shepard had better not be in this game. The less it references the previous games, the better. The universe is big enough.

I thought they said that the arc ship was sent out before the story of mass effect, so the people would have no idea who Shepard was or about the reapers...?

I'm stupidly, stupidly hyped for this. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the plot all pulls together, as there have been some great theories on GAF.

It takes place in the Andromeda Galaxy, hence the name.

The entirety of the original trilogy was in the Milky Way. The Milky Way is about 100,000 light years across. Andromeda is about 2.3 million light years away. So I'd say it's pretty far, and it's highly unlikely we'll see any familiar locations for an extended time.

The other rumor is that the ark departs either prior or during Mass Effect 3, so the game never has to acknowledge what happened at the end of that game. The message from Shepard reinforces that.

And there's so little info? Cue the delay.

Not really. The trend in games marketing is a shorter cycles for the big PR blast. Just because there isn't a trailer every week doesn't mean vapor ware, delays or anything. E3 will be the big coming out party, and then it's four/five months until launch.

You're not too far off, according to this statistic just 18% played as female shepard.

They've sort of done this before with Kotor 2 and the exile when making a main user generated character canonically female (I know Kotor 2 was made by Obsidian but I think the lore was defined by Bioware when making SW:tOR).

This is sadly the most likely reason.

Dat pang of Vigil theme at the end gave me massive goosebumps.

If they set off before the Reaper threat is it possible that the ship could receive messages and/or communiqués about the war that are time delayed because of distance so we could find out what happens to Shepard post ME3?

I am still hurting that I have no closure on whether Shep lives or dies and what happens to their love interest all this time later....

was waiting for the “Mankind was born on Earth. It was never meant to die here.”

maybe they'll be something better at keighley's awards, maybe

They didn't even try.
Guessing they felt they had to give the fans something, but they don't want the full unveil until next year (my guess is E3).

If people are right and they picked this setting specifically to avoid dealing with the end of Mass Effecf 3, I highly, highly doubt it. I don't think they want to open that can of worms.

It's clear that, barring destruction teaser scene, Bioware intended for Shepard to be dead at the end of the trilogy. Or turned into a godlike AI for the Reapers.
