UPDATE:
NA & EU & AU all get the update at the same time this week. previous owners will have to redownload the whole game, btw.
Japan gets the game on November 18, too!

Due on 12th November in Europe and Australia - and 'soon after' in North America - the price will drop to €15.00 / £13.50 for two weeks (until 26th November). There'll then be a notable update, so much so that it's being branded as a 'remaster' by KnapNok Games - it'll apparently apply "several fixes and updates" to the core game based on feedback over recent months.

Of more interest, perhaps, is all-new content in the form of the free Origin Story content. This is apparently best tackled after the campaign due to the challenge of the puzzles, with this extra to be found within the difficulty selection screen. This will have five new levels overall, with Nicklas Nygren (Nifflas) saying the following in a press release.

"We had lots of level ideas that were too difficult to implement as part of the main story. Origin Story is our way of introducing some of these concepts to those who have already finished the game."

edit: in case you're clueless, this is a Wii U exclusive and it happens to be GOTY-caliber amazing. Better recognize, yo.

Press Release:

Copenhagen, Denmark – June 10th 2015

KnapNok Games and Nifflas' Games, the developers of the critically acclaimed Affordable Space Adventures for Wii U, are announcing the release of the free Origin Story content update and a temporary discount to celebrate the launch on November 12th 2015.

Origin Story is a set of 5 brand-new levels of Affordable Space Adventures that take players through the hardest areas of the game so far. These unique stages have been designed not only to put players' skills to the test, but also to get them to think outside the box and make use of all the Small Craft systems in new ways.

This new chapter, available at any moment from the difficulty select screen, is recommended only for those that have already completed the main story and are looking for a new series of puzzling challenges. “We had lots of level ideas that were too difficult to implement as part of the main story”, explains Affordable Space Adventures’ game director Nicklas Nygren. “Origin Story is our way of introducing some of these concepts to those who have already finished the game.”

To celebrate the release of the new update, the developers will be launching a special sale of Affordable Space Adventures on the Nintendo eShop. The sale will drop the price of the game by 20% for 2 weeks starting November 12th 2015 in Europe and Australia, the same day the Origin Story update launches for Wii U™ consoles. America will get both the update and the sale soon after.

The update, which is a remaster of the game rather than a patch, also brings with it several fixes and improvements based upon players' feedback via social media and the Affordable Space Adventures Miiverse™ community.

"We'd like to reward fans of Affordable Space Adventures with additional content for free”, states KnapNok Games’ CEO Dajana Dimovska. “We heard a lot of people asking for more levels, so our hope is that this update will keep the game alive for them. Likewise, we expect new players to pick up the game after this update and enjoy taking it for a spin."

Since its release in April 9th, Affordable Space Adventures has been receiving great reviews and recommendations from both the media and customers alike. The highest praised feature is the game's use of the Wii U GamePad, transforming it into the cockpit of a spaceship and giving players absolute control over the ship's systems. This allows for the game to be played not only in single player mode, but also as a co-op experience, with players taking over different roles as Pilot, Engineer and Science Officer of the spaceship and requiring good communication between them.

The game has players taking control over the Small Craft, a cheap but functional spaceship provided by the Uexplore corporation, as they crash-land on an alien planet. As the game progresses, the spaceship gains new functions, progressively introducing players to new ways of solving the puzzles they encounter as they find their way out of the planet.

The game currently holds a score of 81 in Metacritic.

Wow. Really impressive of the developer to add this much extra content, improve the overall experience, AND provide a discount for new players.

Yeah, I'm officially ashamed for not having purchased this yet.

Looking forward to the new content, was a day 1 purchase for me and played through it all with a friend, really great little game

Looking forward for this update. ASA is easily one of the contender of the GOTY for me. Really great game, great idea, perfect use of the gamepad. And one of the best co-op experiences in recent times.

I need to get this game before the Holidays...planning at least 2 coop gaming days later this year. Doubt it will get cheaper anytime soon.

GamePad, WiiMote and Wii U Pro Controller - so im ready for 3 player coop...right ?

Correct. And you will be in for a ride. Prepare for screams. :)) ("stop the engine now!" "start it, we're going to crash!" "where is that light?" ...)

Amazing news, amazing game with one of the best Gamepad implementations in any Wii U game. Really nice to be able to return to it during the holidays!

This game really hurts for volume and challenge relative to the asking price, so it's nice to see them adding new content for free.

That being said, I really hope they do something about the load times.

I thought the game was kind of average. The idea was cool and its execution does work fairly well, but overall it just feels a bit bland. Played it with my wife.

I didn't finish the game though. I'll play it to the end some day and will check this out too.

I'm already in all happy mode with my Wii U due to Project Zero, so this just makes it better. I'll definitely grab this.

edit: Oh, that was interesting. Heads up to Australians: eshop cards in JB appear to be 15% off at the moment. I was asking if it went through ok, lol. Clearly this game wants me to have it.

In what way is this co-op? I always assumed it was just a twin-stick shooter.

It's a puzzle adventure game. You have the ship dashboard on the gamepad. To solve the puzzles you need to tinker the engine usage, the mass etc. When you play co-op somebody manages the ship systems and someone else handles the ship. In three players there is another player handling the light and shooting flares. Because both (all three) need to be well synchronized to be able to properly steer and use the ship to pass through the puzzles, craziness occur.

Here is some video from IGN about co-op:

It's not, it most closely resembles something like Steel Diver or a much-simplified Steel Battalion. If you play with one or two other people it splits the functions of the ship between each controller, and when you play single-player you have to do everything yourself with the gamepad.

Looked forward for the game, forgot about it, kept an eye on it, but forgot again...will get for sure this Thursday.

Definetely gonna pick it up this weekend then. This game has been on my radar for awhile, this is a good excuse.
