Anyone bought it? How is it? I'm curious to know if the framerate is any good, and how many stuff is missing.

Dig me if old, didn't find any threads about the launch

I thought this was coming out later as well. Then again I was focusing on Fast Racing Neo and Steamworld Heist. Going to wait for impressions on Terraria. I have it on steam so there is no rush to double dip on it. Especially with Minecraft coming out. However I've always felt that Terraria might work better with button controls then the mouse and keyboard and now is the time to see.

Woah, didn't even know this was a thing. Might download in a few minutes when I get home. I love Terraria. (Anyone who also loved it should give Starbound on PC a try)

I second this. They just had a pretty big update. Haven't had time to mess with the new stuff, but it looks to be pretty big overall.

Anyways, how far does multiplayer support go? Is there online support? Local support? Is there even multiplayer at all? I loved my time with the last Terraria update, and although I'm not jumping board immediately, it's something to consider purchasing down the road.

The Wii U version comes out in Q1 2016. That's why I thought this was coming out later. That was the version I told myself I might pick up.

The 3DS version launches today on the eShop. With the retail version coming in 2016 like said above. You also have 4 player local play with the 3DS version. No online I believe. It does have 3D though.

The Wii U version has online and up to 8 players can be in one world. You can also have 4 players local split screen as well.

The 3DS version is good, I don't have any other version to compare it to other than the Kindle Fire version I have.

Other than being lower resolution, it's Terraria on the 3DS. Haven't noticed any slowdown, even with a bunch of stuff on screen at once and the day/night cycle happening. This isn't in 3D though. It's seemingly a straight port. I'll probably play it more when I finish Steamworld Heist.

Terraria 3DS launch FAQ

What content is included?
Terraria 3DS includes all the content from 1.2 with the exception of Dyes which are excluded on technical grounds*. To make up for that, weÂ’ve added Minecarts, Fishing and a few 1.3 UI options like the ability to quick stack to a chest. The 3DS version also features a completely overhauled interface, making full use of the two screens. You can cycle the bottom screen between an intuitive touch to build interface; a world map; or as a quick-select inventory bar. ItÂ’s the most intuitive Terraria has ever been on console, and weÂ’ve included a few surprises for the Nintendo fanbase.

Will there be variable world sizes?
At launch, there is a single world size of 1750x900. You can save up to three Worlds and three Characters per console. This is as large as the original 3DS can handle. We are investigating the possibility of introducing larger worlds as a New 3DS-exclusive feature in future, but for launch we felt it was important to start everyone off on a level playing field.

Any other technical stuff I should be aware of?
This game plays in 2D ONLY. This is for a couple of reasons: the way the graphics layers work on 3DS was not conducive to a really exciting 3D effect; and the technical overheard required to run the game in 3D would have meant compromises in terms of world size and other gameplay-damaging areas. The game runs on ALL models of 3DS (original, XL and New) and also 2DS. The framerate on original 3DS is 30fps, whereas the New gets a boost to 60FPS.

Any other New 3DS benefits?
For launch, we wanted a single version that could be enjoyed by all players. There are different control possibilities for New, but nothing that will unbalance a multiplayer game with people on an Original or 2DS.

How does multiplayer work?
Multiplayer is 1-4 players via Local Play. Each player needs to have their own copy of the game.

Will there be a demo on the eShop?
There are no plans currently to offer a demo. I encourage people to seek out the opinions of their peers – there are a handful of people on the Forum playing this already.

Will the 3DS version be updated post launch?
We are planning to support both Nintendo versions post-launch, as we have done with the console versions. Update 1 is already specced out and scheduled, and weÂ’ll be listening for community feedback from the moment the game goes live.

Will there be cross play between the Wii U and 3DS versions?
This is not possible owing to the smaller world size on 3DS.

When will the physical/retail version launch? Wii U?
Both of these are still planned for an Early 2016 launch.

How much free space do I need to install this game?
The game itself is around 80MB, which @Spectra tells me is 640 blocks. The save game and any subsequent content updates will be saved to the SD card.

I have a technical issue or feedback – where can I provide this?
You can always leave a post on TCF, and/or we would encourage you to utilize our new Customer Service Portal: http://support.505games.com/support/home

We will be gathering any additional bugs from our ongoing play/testing as well as your experience and rolling fixes into that first Update.

*We use pixel shaders to implement dyes on the other platforms, but 3DS does not have this capability.

They couldn't make this run at 60 fps on the original 3DS? Really now?

While the game doesn't look particularly impressive, there can sometimes be tons of stuff happening on screen at once. And hey, at least it's 60 on N3DS. They could have easily said fuck it and made no effort there, it would have sold regardless.

You'e implying the developers are stupid and lazy? Really now?

That's not how it works. Regardless of how a screenshot of the pixel art looks, the game is highly CPU intensive. Probably a lot more so than most 3DS games.

I'm kinda surprised about the frame rate cap too.

This is a good game regardless, I'm happy to see it getting out there on a platform like this. If you haven't played this before, it's worth checking out, even if you're not into Minecrafty type games I think this one offers a lot more depth. It's easy to lose hours and hours just digging, finding random stuff, and getting into trouble.

Having put plenty of hours into the Vita version, I can say that this game is great on a handheld. Suits it well for quick mining sessions. Glad to hear it runs well on n3DS!

FFS...every single tile is destructible, you can build whatever you want wherever you want, trees, plants, etc. can all be chopped down and harvested and replanted, it simulates liquids and sand in real time so that if you dig up into a lake it will empty out into the caverns below, there's real time lighting and there can be crap tons of enemies on the screen. It's quite impressive that they got 30 fps IMO.

Great news, will probably double dip in the near future as I quite enjoyed it on Steam.

I wonder what those Nintendo surprises are... maybe some new Zelda-esque items?

The trailer (on the eShop) shows what is clearly a Mario costume.

Chances are it did, occasionally, but since there can be a lot of stuff going on in this game, instead of opting for the idea of having a frame rate anywhere between 60 to 30 they just opted to lock it to 30 for a consistent refresh.

I personally think with all the stuff Terraria pulls off it is rather impressive they got a 30 lock down on the original hardware.

I'm used to playing this on pc with keyboard and mouse, tried playing on my phone once but I hated the controls? Any impressions on that front? Game is downloading now so I guess I'll find out soon anyways.

Probably the second best version of this game next to PC, I vastly prefer the control scheme in this compared to the PS3/PS4 versions. Having a hotbar on the touch screen makes juggling multiple tools much more manageable. Having the action button on Y instead of R also makes it feel more traditional to its gameplay style. Not to mention building structures with the touch screen is a breeze.

Thanks for the impressions. Even more excited for it now. I love double dipping on games that I feel deserve it and this looks to be one of them.

P.S. I cheated from time to time on pc so it will be interesting to see how I fare against some of these bosses :P

Making MS, Mojang look bad with the Wii U version of Minecraft.....

It's 6 times more expensive than the PC version, yikes (at least here in Mexico). I'll pass, I guess.

Totally unfamiliar to me. What's the game premise?

How does Terraria compare to Starbound?

I haven't played enough Starbound to know its systems well but Terraria has a lot less randomness to its levels, all enemies are fixed designs and specific biomes always appear in specific places on the map. Bosses have an intended order to beat them and generally it feels a bit Metroidvania despite the destructible terrain.

Damn, is there no online for the 3DS version? I have it on PC so no point in getting it on Wii U for me.

You make no sense. Wii U version has online, what does the 3DS version not having online have to do with anything then?

Totally unfamiliar to me. What's the game premise?

Minecraft in 2D but with more of a focus on "adventuring" and fighting monsters.

Ive seen this game on every platform and I still dont know what the fuck it is

It's really not that hard to figure out, though...

How does it compare to the Vita version?

I haven't played either version but it seems the Vita version is based on the console codebase whereas the 3DS version is based on the mobile codebase, so from the outset they're not going to be identical.

The most obvious difference is the mobile codebase is limited to a smaller world.

the new3ds version runs way better than my vita..

and the new3ds version can only be small but still. wow i'm impressed.
