Super Mario Galaxy hitting the North American Wii U eShop tomorrow

Surprised it wasn't there already since SMG2 has been available for the same price for a while.

Those who haven't played it yet - you now have plans over your holiday break!

I want to give you money Nintendo... Heck, I recently bought $200 in games and amiibos for Christmas stuff... But I can't rebuy a non remastered game a half decade later.

At least open it up with another sale!

I can't remember--do you need a wiimote to play this game? Traveling for the holidays and only have my gamepad. :(

Wahoo! Glad to hear it. One more physical Wii game to divest.

ETA: although, $20 is essentially more than my physical copy is worth...but...I want the digital copy so...digital it is I suppose.

Nice for NoA to put this up.
Probably my fav 3D Mario game.
Less bloat than SMG2 and better experience than 3DL and 3DW.
True return to form for 3D Mario and a good return for when people have to nitpick to show which Mario they prefer or not.
I mean at this point it's kind like deciding which kind of high quality food you prefer.

Oh and fuck you NoA. When are you gonna put Xenoblade Chronicles on the eShop???

Honestly I now feel like this will never happen. Maybe something to do with whatever contract originally granted Gamestop exclusive North American rights. I really hope I'm wrong. :(

Yeah, my hopes have pretty much sunk to the bottom of the sea at this point. Was really hoping they would've put it up before XCX was released. :-/

$20 it's a lot of money.

Worth it?

Arguably the best game of last generation, so definitely.

The game still sells for $20 new, and the cheapest used price I'm seeing on Amazon is $10, which is likely a disc only, so $20 for the game digitally isn't a terribly horrible deal.

The price is too high. This game should be readily available at retail for anyone who wants it, and for less. I bought my partner a copy last xmas for $7 brand new, I'd love to have a copy on my wii u, but in Canada it'll be $24.99, so nope.

Twas worth it for Xenoblade, it's definitely worth it for this....
Although you could probably nab a cheap player choice version for less...
The discless version is nice though, really nice to never have to bother to get the disc I'd say

games have really been devalued over the years, huh?

Galaxy is one of the greatest games ever made. It's worth $80. $20 is a steal if you somehow haven't already played this masterpiece.

jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez

Xenoblade isnt even a Wii download in Japan, so I doubt its got anything to do with that. It'll hit here someday for sure.

Played through all of them recently. Galaxy 1 is easily the best of the bunch.

Nah, not a chance. Galaxy is the easiest Mario game ever released by a fuckin' staggering margin. As much as I love the game I get bored on subsequent playthroughs because the game is just so goddamn simple and easy it's like I'm just going through the motions. I find both Galaxy 2 and 3D World to be a lot more engaging where the actual gameplay and level designs are concerned.

I would have double dipped just to have it on my hard drive at $10. For $20 I'll just stop being lazy and put in the disc. Good deal for people who haven't played it yet though.

Goddamn, that is so true. The perceived dollar value and quality-worth of games has shrunk so massively. :'( I mostly blame steam sales tbh

It's not *that* easy. It's not the easiest Mario...I dunno, man. Not to 100%. Maybe the easiest 3D Mario to beat. But there are some pretty tough levels in there. I do think if you de-jankified SM64 and SMS those would be no harder for the most part. SMG has some tough levels here and there. I don't think SMG2 has any significantly different proportion of easier to harder levels IIRC. (3DL and 3DW also, if you're just talking about beating the game and not going for 100%.)

Are you basing this on the bare minimum number of stars needed to complete the game or are you factoring in all 242(?)stars? If it's the latter, I disagree wholeheartedly.

Add me to the camp that wants a re-release in HD. Hell, I'd buy them one at a time just to get it in 1080p at 60fps. The games are worth it. Galaxy 1, 2, Sunshine, Metroid Prime and done. I'd rebuy all those with the HD treatment.

Also, the promo of getting the games at $9.99 was a great incentive. I wish they'd bring that back.

Yeah, this is a bit of a "I wanna see the receipts" moment.

Shit gets bonkers in the second half of the game. I.E. the second batch of 121 stars.

I'm tempted to pop my disc in and play it this weekend, but I've done that so many times over the year but never gotten past the first two domes. Sometime I'll have to go for another 200% completion.

Almost every last one of Galaxy's legitimately tough stars are near the end. (Kind of like in every 3D Mario game.) Doesn't change that the overwhelming majority of them are incredibly, incredibly, incredibly easy and straightforward. Practically babby's first 3D Mario. Maybe it's just me.

Galaxy 2 brings a much more consistent level of challenge to the table throughout the game. I don't feel like the game is practically playing itself while I ogle awesome space backdrops like how it feels when I play Galaxy 1. You're probably right that removing the jank from Super Mario 64 would make it into a much easier game, though. Been replaying that game lately and hoo boy, shit can get pretty silly sometimes with those controls and that camera.

I'm basing it on the latter, alright. Galaxy 2 is the one that had 242 stars btw. Galaxy 1 had 120 and they were mostly easy as sin.

uhh

Comet Bouldergeist.
Luigi's Purple Coins.
Motion sensing pinball.
Baron Brrrr.
MAYBE that toybox galaxy.

That's the hard part. Honestly can't remember shit else from that game that I can't stomp in one single run.

I think it's a combination of steam sales, mobile/free to play and huge AAA games dropping to $39.99 within a couple of months of launch.

Nintendo avoids all of that shit and only drops prices on their classic, first party games years after release.

if you're hesitant on spending $20 on one of the greatest games of all time, you're crazy.

Wrong. Did you forget Luigi's playthrough?

its nice that these are available and all but man I would have loved a full on HD remaster of these games, give me that instead of twilight princess any day
