Mad Catz CEO and Chairman Resign a Day Before Earnings Report

That's a rather...sudden exit. Doesn't inspire confidence.

On the upswing, this might get them to do that crossover with Samurai Pizza Cats that everyone has been asking for since day numero uno.

Man, their stock is such shit i don't think one can even short it in anticipation of tomorrow. It just dropped 25% and going for a quarter now.

Betting your company on Rock Band accessories in 2015. Yeah...

Soooo probably didn't hit the marks they wanted?

By all accounts their quality has skyrocketed in recent years, but enough of their shoddy controllers 15 years ago made me never want to buy something with their name on it again.

Over the past year it sounds like the company is really unstable. I'm going to assume tomorrow will not bode well.

Who the hell would still own stock in Madcatz after they spoke on their gameplan of betting basically the company on fucking Rockband with the argument "game was hot back in 07"?

Honestly I'd be really worried for Markman, but he already said last year he was leaving MCZ sometime this year so hopefully he can make it out unscathed.

In general without following their financials it's hard to get a feel for how they're doing. I doubt RB4 did what it needed to for them, their fighting game stuff seems to do very well, but other than that no idea. I know they do the gaming mice and other various PC accessories but no idea how they perform.

Well at my work we a got a bunch of Rockband 4 games and nothing sold even the one with guitar only still standing there.

lol Didn't even know they made anything besides that.

They make all of the Rockband instruments and in the case of RB4 they actually published the game themselves. They said in their last earnings report that they had to take out a loan to make the RB4 instruments and that they were banking on it being a success.

Sounds like that didn't pan out.

Probably just a coincidence.

But seriously, I wonder if a competitor or even a publisher like Activision would try to absorb them.

CEOs don't coincidentally resign a day before an earnings report.
Any CEO resignation should be carefully timed as it sends a message.

Something bad on that earnings report and the CEO is being replaced because of it and/or the events leading to it.

Their arcade sticks are solid. I wish they'd bring a Saturn pad out with that level of quality to where said pads didn't break within two weeks of heavy use. :/

*shrug* I went with Hori for my stick for SF5. But yeah, the hype and excitement for Rock Band 4 came and went like a fart in a tornado. Hopefully MC pulls through and weathers the storm.

I can use my 2009 360 TE to demolish a house and it'd probably still work. The only reason I'd buy another MadCatz stick would be to play on current gen consoles, but people fixed that for free. So I guess that didn't help either.

The pricing on the Rock Band 4 accessories is so wacked too. The drum kit is $200 for example. Sure it comes with the cymbals but for $50 more you can get the band in a box bundle

Is it safe to assume the main thing keeping these guy afloat are their fight sticks and fight pads?

Well, PC and MAc are apparently their bread and butter, so I doubt it.

They might have over invested into the console guitar thing and it didn't end up panning out.

I had a mad catz GameCube controller that was like a bigger regular gc controller. I liked it well enough. Had a turbo button which I never figured out.

Also bought a PS2 from a kid in school and he had this big clear plastic orange light one. Liked that one enough too. Never actually had a regular PS2 controller I think.

Think something like this will lower their fight stick pricing?

Uh wouldn't it be the opposite probably? They already can't keep that stuff in stock, people would scramble to get that shit if it looked like they were going under or something crazy.

Yeah. Even though that comes with the cymbals, why wouldn't you just GCU the kit (which you can generally find GCU'd for about $160-$170- which, I'll note, is in line with the price of RB1 and RB2), and buy the cymbals separately?

Not to mention the lack of features and the competition from the well-regarded Guitar Hero Live. DLC has been great for RB4 so far, but this news has me worried that Harmonix (well, maybe not the company, but Rock Band, at least) may be teetering on the edge of BandFuse-ing.

I love RB4 :(

You guys talk like Madcatz will close up tommorow

Well they took out a loan to create something to appears to have crashed and burned in RB4 and their CEO just resigned. I mean, they're not going to close up shop tomorrow, but this is really bad.

When high-level executives are suddenly leaving at the same time like people jumping ship from the titanic, it's pretty safe to assume the company probably won't be around for that much longer.

And yeah, I wouldn't be too concerned about Daigo, Tokido and Mago. Dudes as high profile as them are guaranteed to get a big sponsorship somewhere else. Probably Hori or EG if I were to guess.
