Considering we know for a fact Production had already been stopped or slowed to an absolute crawl last year to the point Japan sold out of its remaining inventory and Nintendo was forced to get the lines rolling again and even now can't deliver enough to stock shelves in japan.

If anything Nintendo will do one last big run for Holiday 2016 sales and that will be it as lines transfer to NX by this summer

Would that even dissuade anyone? Honestly at this point I don't think them stopping wii u production changes much of anything at all. The writing is on the wall, in 72 point Impact font. If anything ending production is the signal the last few interested stragglers might need to finally pick one up since it's clear it ain't gettin' any cheaper.

And it would not be the first time (or even 20 time) that a Nikkei rumor about Nintendo was wrong.

Nonetheless this Nikkei news sounds at least plausible. Facts: WiiU shortage in Japan and Nintendo should be able to produce enough consoles in the coming months to satisfy the low demand world wide. Plus Nintendo don't have to decrease price of the console if demands and production are proportionally.

The run for the last WiiUs, when it will be clear that NX is not backwards compatible like some people still hope against all odds (read it here again: NC HAS NO BC) will be a bloodbath.
