And wow @ Iwata furiously denying Seaman 3DS only for it to have been true, weird he got so worked up about it especially since it was a project from a friend.

good guy Iwata trying to spare everyone the disappointment of its cancellation by pretending it never existed

Heck, even the denial doesn't extend past the end of this year.

If you read "thereafter" as "the following quarter" and not "forever beyond it," then they're guaranteeing production only through Q3, right before the all important Q4 holiday sales. That makes me go "hmm..."

I don't know if that's the correct interpretation—in fact, I'm almost positive Nintendo intends the latter meaning, even though we all know Wii U won't be in production in 2062—but if Nintendo is selling NX this year, it makes sense for them to let Wii U leave shelves so that by the time fall and winter roll around, there's room on retailer shelves for a new system.

Didn't Iwata said that they will continue support with the Wii U after the NX release?

Didn't iwata also say there would be no game drought? Didn't he also say they would secure 3rd party support? Didn't he also say they want to create games that really utilize the Wii U gamepad?

Iwata was a man of words, not of actions. His inaction led to the first losses in many years for Nintendo, and destroyed a significant chunk of Nintendo's firm value.

On topic, Wii U is pretty much dead. No new game announcements are planned based on the leaks we've seen, Zelda U will be released simultaneously on NX, and hardware sales are still bad. No reason to expect production to continue past this year.

.

1. Yes
2. No
3. Yes and they did... mario maker, splatoon, starfox

And they had their first loss because the WiiU eneded up costing more to make than they originally planned.

Oh you with the logic about translation and intent. . .

You are probably right.

That's more of a confirmation than a denial. "Next quarter and thereafter" is pretty much "until the end of the year".

You act like that was something out of their control...

The fact is, the Wii U sold like shit and because of that they couldn't get the economies of scale to get the costs down. At one point they were selling minus units in Europe because retailers were returning their unsold stock.

Whichever way you look at it the buck stopped with Iwata.

Lol.. this is a mess. They can deny or whatever they want but this is what happens when you stay quiet for too long. This news got pretty big and started trending.

Nintendo still learning to get with the times, it seems.

this isn't the 90's where the info would stay shut in the headquaters for months. It leaks rather sooner than later.

The last 2 weeks have provided so much info/leaks ahead of time for all three players that it really is ludicrous, how they still try to deny with shit PR answers like this.

"we didn't say it"... WTF is that. just stay silent, that's an awful rebuttal.

You are talking as if they had massive leaks from 2000 onwards

Agreed, a change in how their communications department handles their PR responses is long overdue. Weak responses are bad and hunkering down in their bunker can be even worse.

I'd say that's a larger problem in their communications department/strategy in general. They're a global publicly-traded company, not the Yamauchi family business any more.
