Let's talk about how great mid-2000s G-Unit was

First of all, the production was sublime. Beg For Mercy, Hunger for More, Straight Outta Cashville, that shitty Yayo album, Get Rich, The Documentary. All among the best produced albums of the 2000s.

Secondly, besides Yayo, they were all fine rappers, some finer than others (Young Buck >>>>). Sure, they didn't say much, but who gives a shit? This is gangsta rap. It's all about guns and money and women and drugs, and they did it really well. They sounded good over that fantastic production and in the end, isn't that what matters?

It's all sooooo good. Looking back, G-Unit was making some of the most enjoyable hip hop of that era. WHO'S WITH ME?!

I was a big fan of their mid-2000s stuff. I'm with you OP. Shit was just really catchy, despite lack of substance.

Hunger for More was pretty good. Even Straight Outta Cashville wasn't so bad despite Young Buck being the weaker of the three at the time. Get Rich or Die Trying was the best of the G-Unit solo albums. Yayo? No thanks lol.

I had Beg for Mercy and probably wore down that disc from playing it so much.

The Documentary was pretty damn good, I liked that it was stylistically differed from the rest of G-Unit's solo albums.

Even their borderline poppy stuff was catchy as hell.

I know they get a lot of hate, but at their best, they were a genuinely great listen. But no one can keep that going, especially after you achieve that type of success. Oh well, people gotta hate regardless.

g-unit can still put out some dope beats. though that was 2 years ago, that kanan tape was actually good.

they never really changed styles like some rappers, but i think 50 is realized he needs more outside influence to stay relevant.

It was all down hill after Get Rich or Die Trying.
That's like saying it was all downhill for Jay after Reasonable Doubt, or it was all downhill for Nas after Illmatic. Technically true, but there was still a lot of great music afterwards with some stuff that was almost as good.

Did John Cena get that weird hand in front of his face dance from Lloyd Banks? I remember my friends and I seeing Lloyd doing that in a video and going "wtf is he doing?" haha.

Always felt The Diplomats were way better than G-unit. Banks and Buck were the only people I consistently enjoyed outta G-unit and the Dips had better group cuts.

Banks aka the PLK was the most talented of the group. Too bad he stepped away from music a bit in the middle due to that family death.

Chain so icy, you don't have to like me
In a throwback jersey, with the throwback nikes
I know you probably seen me with Cash Money from back in the days
The only thing changed is the numbers on the range

They were sick at the time but have aged like absolute shit. I recently went through the bangers of 2000 and none of their shit holds up.

I think Dipset has aged way worse than G-Unit. That Heatmakerz production is played the fuck out. I can still go back and listen to the first wave of G-Unit albums and find them really enjoyable.

Disagree but then I love samples. At the same time I think Purple Haze is the best effort put out by any member of either group and Diplomatic Immunity 1 was way stronger than either G-unit effort.

I'd probably agree if Diplomatic Immunity was one disc and just had all the best songs. As it is, there's way too much filler.
