We talk about anything Indie, want to talk about the mess that DoubleFine is leaving behind? The depth(s) of Dwarf Fortress? Need recommendations? This is the right spot to ask! We'd also love to read more impressions :)

| 3.5 Quick Note about Formatting |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you want to suggest a game that has recently released or that looks interesting, but hasnt released yet, please follow the following formatting structure so the post is picked up by Toma-Bot:
Released games:
[B]TITLE[/B] - PRICE (PLAT)
[QUOTE][IMG]IMG[/IMG]
[URL]LINK[/URL]
DESCRIPTION TEXT
[/quote]
Not yet released games:
[B]TITLE[/B] - PLAT
[QUOTE][IMG]IMG[/IMG]
[URL]LINK[/URL]
DESCRIPTION TEXT
[/quote][/code]
Copy the appropriate content and add the proper information for the black writing. Please only include 1 link and 1 image. I tried making it a bit failsafe, so it should be able to deal with 2 links or images as well, but 1 is safer.
If the game is free, then put "Free" as the price, otherwise please use $ or € for the price. You can also include more than one game per post (like the Screenshot saturday posts), but please stick to the above format for every entry.
If someone posts a non-proper formatted post, I'd appreciate if you could repost the game with the same info in the proper format.
I noticed there are a few noteworthy, and relatively unknown, projects that deserve a shoutout here because I feel that they share a common interest with the people in this thread. I talked to the guy from Pixabyte and MetaVendetta and both are very enthusiastic about the things they love and figured you might appreciate the shoutout as well. If you enjoy anything here or want to give feedback, let these guys know via their websites or also here in this thread. If you appreciate something, let people know. A heads up can sometimes very valuable.
You and me both. We should just rename this thread the No Man's Sky edition
I forgot how good Ghost of Tale looks.
There is an error for the game below Event[0]. Don't have a name and neither a description.
On other news I just start buying the parts for my future PC so I hope I have it completed before the end of the year.
Actually played a bunch of stuff from the OT this month, will add impressions later
3) Zombie Night Terror
Here are some games of the "Recently released Indies!" section that I can comment on:
  1. The Maître D': the puzzle game is using an interesting mechanic (grow and move). It is short but manages to demonstrate the mechanic in smart ways. The only downside is the audio which is a bit rough.
  2. Anarcute: a masterpiece in the genre of riot games, with cute visuals and sounds, interesting boss fights, some stealth mechanics as well. This is the first simulation of riots that manages to sustain my interest for a long time. Very refreshing if you fell down.
  3. Quadrilateral Cowboy: this is Inception made game: you are playing a video game where the main character is moving around, switching his computer on and writing command lines to control all sorts of gadgets. The game is definitely very innovative. Some downsides: a few bugs here and there, that may force to make a new savefile ; I cannot find mods despite the modding tools.
  4. Headlander: the mechanic of switching bodies was promising, but the game does not seem to explore it that much. The art direction is great (a bit flashy though), but the puzzles are switches to activate to open colored doors with combats in-between. The game ends up being more or less a combat game with occasional jokes.
  5. Klocki: do not expect too much from this one, it is a nice relaxing puzzle game, but if feels like a mobile game.
  6. Ghost of a Tale: I cannot comment on that one too much, because I only have 1 GB VRAM and the game requires 2 GB VRAM. Be aware that if you are in the same case as me, the framerate will be too low to be able to play at all.
I have noticed two mistakes in the "Upcoming Indies! (Not yet released)" section: the following games are already released:
  • Captain Forever Remix: the atmosphere is right, the mechanic is interesting (you build a ship from scraps and kill ennemies to get more scrap), but it is not my kind of game: the game is super hard, and I am way too bad at games like Besiege, Polybridge, etc.
  • Red Trigger: the game is based on a finite-energy mechanic: you have a gun that can switch a limited number of switches at the same time, so you have to make progress in platforming levels by solving a few puzzles here and there. The game is quite short, requires some smart solutions, but definitely feels like a student project (which it is).
Maybe I will try Starbound as well, it is just that it sounds like a multiplayer game.
Yay, new thread!
I took the 9th key. Thank you!
I encourage everyone to give Death Road to Canada a shot. Put several hours in and though I haven't made it to Canada yet, I've laughed my ass off and been in some seriously tense scrapes.
It's a bit like Isaac meets Oregon Trail.
It's a bit like Isaac meets Oregon Trail.
You made a good investment. Rocketcat always supports their games post-release with tons of updates and new content.
I love how the game makes zombies threatening, rather than fodder.
Excerpts from a review I wrote
...the undead of Death Road To Canada harken back to Romero's living dead. An unstoppable overwhelming force, a shambling wall of gnashing teeth and decaying flesh. There are never enough bullets. A few may fall easily, but your weapons will break long before you kill them all.
===
But those allies and stats are all for naught if you're reckless and don't respect the power of the undead. Sure, when you're raiding a house or supermarket and fighting off a few zombies at a time, you feel powerful. They don't feel very threatening. They even look kind of silly, with their waddling shuffle. But then you're forced into the claustrophobic confines of the sewer, or you're surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of undead, or dozens of them are pouring into a room and there's no other exit, and you realize how dangerous they can be...
...You may have molotovs and pipe bombs, a parody of Rambo, and a strongman who can throw cars with his bare hands at your side, but Death Road To Canada's zombies have numbers on their side, and they will never stop, they will never tire, and they will always overwhelm you. Don't underestimate the dead.
I encourage everyone to give Death Road to Canada a shot. Put several hours in and though I haven't made it to Canada yet, I've laughed my ass off and been in some seriously tense scrapes.
It's a bit like Isaac meets Oregon Trail.
What is the coop like on it? I have a good friend and we like to comically bicker a lot about all kinds of subjects and survival scenarios come up more then a few times. The thought of hanging about together and trying to survival a zombie apocalypse is an appealing one.
Yay, new thread!
Road to Ballhalla released yesterday (http://store.steampowered.com/app/425410), quote to reveal a few keys for the game if you're interested. :)
Big thanks. I took #5. I think I've only posted a few times in the Indie Game threads but I lurk them every month to pad out my wishlist and find hidden gems. I had just added this game to my wishlist last night so this is great. I'll post my impressions in the next couple days when I sit down to play some stuff.
Alright, I have finished the game and the time trials of the first world. Balhalla is actually super exhausting, great job!
Thanks! :) If you haven't already, you may try out the secret scavenger hunt! Look for the start at the jump pad on Rollin IV.
The game is really nice. I breezed through world 1, even perfecting every level and going for time trials, but dammit world 2.3 put a halt to my playthrough, and I have stopped not long after, at world 3.2. Wow, exhausting!
Thanks haha. Any specific section you found too hard? Could take a look at it. :)
Well, the time trials are super hard starting with level 1-4, but I guess that is the goal of such challenges, so it is fine in fact.
I just had some troubles with the changes of perspective, but once again, there are few levels using it, plus some hints are given at the end of the level introducing the mechanic anyway, so it is okay.
I also had particular troubles with the levels requiring to jump over numerous gaps or lasers, and ended with more than 100 deaths on a few of them. This was a bit hard for me. I cannot even consider doing the time trials for those. I have noticed for some of them (like the reverse hurdle) that there was a trick to succeed more easily, in which case it is okay. However, for a few of them, I did not find a particular trick and it was a lot of deaths and retries.
Good job with the game, it has good humor and good challenge. I would have overlooked the game if you had not given a key, mostly for two reasons:
  • I was expecting a rhythm-based game and I am super bad at those, while in your game, rhythm is important but there are other clues including visual clues,
  • I was also kind of expecting a marble game, which I generally get tired of quickly, but yours is more of a puzzle-platformer.
You sound like the perfect audience for this game. It's the most upbeat mellow zombie apocalypse I've ever seen, perfect for coop and shooting the shit. The soundtrack is godly too.
Looks like some good stuff. Very curious about Quadrilateral Cowboy.
From the upcoming set, The Bunker looks very interesting, and I hope they can pull it off. Very tough to do right but it looks like they're on their way.
Event[0] looks right up my alley. Most exciting thing for me in the upcoming section.
Just finished judging some games for a competition, I'm curious which ones will make their way here eventually.
Thanks for the feedback! Yep, the rhythmic jumps require you to stick to the beat and they are quite difficult in the last level, but there's only 6 of them. I thought the jumps in the hiccup level were quite small and forgiving though. Do you remember any particular jumps you found too hard?
I should probably comment on what I've been playing lately, but instead: The Bunker looks really neat. That's coming out in September, looks like?
Not in particular, it is more about the fact that several jumps have to be done successively in between two checkpoints. There is a place like that:
Code:
        =stuff==
         (gaps)
C (gap) ====== (gap) C======= ... following of the level
|        (gaps)
|       =stuff==
|
|
|
.
.
.
where I arrive
where C are checkpoints
If it's the section I think it is (then that was a really good code description lol), then making the jumps to the top and bottom only gets you extra yellow orbs for completion, so it's completely optional. Also, you could just make the jump to the top and then get back to the last checkpoint to save. No need to do both at the same time. :)
Yep, it is this one! :D
This looks so good, at least from an aesthetic and craftsmanship perspectic
