Tequila Works reveals The Sexy Brutale at Gamescom.

Source.

Creators of Deadlight and the recently resurrected RiME have announced the quite interesting adventure-puzzle game The Sexy Brutale. Behind this name is a mansion turned into a weird casino where the enigmatic Marquis holds a ball with various guests during an endless day. Players control priest Lafcadio Boone and they'll have to hide and learn in order to save other gusts from a gruesome death. It will be out in Q1 2017 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Welcome to “The Sexy Brutale“, a never-ending masked ball puzzle-and-adventure game for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One featuring intrigue, murder and the
quite-possibly occult.

Set during a single, endlessly-looping day within “The Sexy Brutale” – a stately English mansion converted into a bizarre casino and named by the enigmatic Marquis – players take on the role of elderly priest Lafcadio Boone. To progress, Boone must hide, watch and learn the colourful stories of the other guests at the ball in order to save them from grisly deaths at the hands of the mansion’s staff.

Scheduled for a Q1 2017 release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the single-player, narrative-driven puzzle adventure is the debut of new UK developer Cavalier Game Studios who joined forces with Tequila Works in the Spanish studio's first ever co-production project.

Teaser.

How big is this studio? I thought they were tiny, and that's why they reportedly were having trouble delivering something substantial in Rime, leading to Sony dropping them. Seems weird that they're trying to revive a dead game with apparently troubled development and working on a couple other projects too. Of course, they could be much bigger than I think.

Edit: I'm also tired of these completely pointless teasers. That minute of my life that I just wasted told me nothing about the game, just that I don't like the art someone chose for a few paintings and a door.

The reasoning why Sony backed away from Rime is starting to make more sense. They are having a heck of a time getting that game done and are working on two others on top of that.

They should really focus on finishing one game first. Starting to behave a bit like Dean 'Rocket' Hall.

Sure, buds. How about releasing Rime first though. That would be a start.

Have you guys read the article at all?

“Never-ending masked ball turned murderous” adventure puzzle game “The Sexy Brutale” will be the first co-production between RiME creator Tequila Works and new UK-based developer Cavalier Game Studios.

[...]

The concept was created by ex-Lionhead veteran Tom Lansdale and brothers Charles and James Griffiths, and an early build was shown to friends for responses and criticism, including creative director and CEO of Tequila Works, Raúl Rubio.

“When Cavalier asked for our feedback on their build of The Sexy Brutale, I immediately knew we had to be part of it,” said Rubio. “By combining the unique talents of both our teams we are proud to have created a genuinely intriguing and unforgettable experience for players to enjoy.”

Sorry guys, but you fucked up so bad on RIME I'm never going to believe another word you say about your games before release.

I think it's kind of funny that in the four years since Deadlight released, the only other game Tequila Works have released is a remastered version of Deadlight.

Working on three games at once as a small team doesn't seem like a smart move.

Edit - To be fair, I now see that this is being co-produced with another team.

You dropped the ball major with RIME. And then come up with this misleading ass title for your game. Maybe layoff that fucking Tequila for a bit, ya?

Looks intriguing but damn I'd pay good money (well, some money) to know what happened between Sony and TG during the Rime development days to go from borderline vaporware status to having 2 games (including Rime) releasing within 2 months and a 3rd one in the works afaik?

What the hell? This comes out tomorrow? I was super into this, learned about it a few months ago for the first time, and had no idea.

Aren't they working on a VR game too?

The Invisible Hours?

Edit: Didn't look at the date

Shit, tomorrow? I've been excited for this but I don't have enough time for the games coming out right now as is...

EDIT: Hmm, only Windows? This would be a lot easier to justify if I could chip away at it on the computer I actually use the most; my old hefty Windows laptop mostly sits unused...

EDIT2: Oh, is it out on PS4 tomorrow too? Aaaand I'm maybe back in...

Jim Sterling's review. Seems like a pretty intriguing and fun concept. Sterling loved it: http://www.thejimquisition.com/the-sexy-brutale-review/

Blast it all if it isn’t another impeccable entry in a year swarming with quality already. I fear this one will get lost in the shuffle of big budget games, but make no mistake – The Sexy Brutale deserves as much attention as any Horizon, Zelda, Nioh or Persona.

Push Square - 9/10
The Sexy Brutale is a very different type of game to anything on the PS4 currently, taking up a Groundhog Day-style in gameplay that is excellently executed. The game is perfectly presented with outstanding audio and visuals that are able to switch the tone of the story from being joyfully upbeat to a very dark within a matter of moments. The story does a great job of keeping you fixated on looking for answers from beginning to end and its conclusion will leave you more than satisfied with your time spent solving its interestingly intricate puzzles.

PSU - 8.5/10
Awash in a frankly ridiculous amount of charm and bolstered by a genuinely innovative time travel mechanic, The Sexy Brutale is one of the most deliciously refreshing puzzlers to come along in a good long while

This... actually looks really interesting! It has my curiosity, but other games have my priority right now. Still, I think I will check this one out.
