I'm sorry PC GAF, playing on consoles is so much more comfortable

I just started playing Oxenfree tonight, played for about 40 minutes (really neat game so far btw), said fuck it and bought the game on PSN. It's currently downloading to my PS4 as we speak. The same thing happened with The Witcher 3. It's not that I can't play PC games at all (especially for the number of titles that never make it to consoles), but when I have the option to use a console, I'd opt for the latter every single time.

It's just so much more comfortable being in nice comfy chair or couch and using a big screen TV and controller versus being hunched over staring at small(er) monitor inches away from your face using WASD keys and a mouse, etc.

I'm sure some people might have some elaborate setups where they output to a TV, etc. but for the majority of people that's probably not the case. I dunno, personally, I will take fewer pixels/effects/frames in my games if it means I'm in a more comfortable position for hours and hours. (Doubly so since I already have to use a PC for 9/10+ hours a day at work.)

I admit, although most of my gaming is on a keyboard or a 3DS, neither of those will ever be as comfy as sitting on a nice comfy couch infront of a TV with a well designed controller.

Elaborate setup? Like plugging an HDMI cable from the computer to the tv?

Nothing wrong with that. I've been in your situation before. Some games are more comfy on a couch.

And using your PC and outputting it through your receiver to the tv is nice but it's not seamless.

Ehhh that's debatable. There have been a lot of people who just switch consoles plugged into TVs for computers given the rise of Steam OS, Links, Controllers and so on

I'm a big console guy, but I've also spent a lot of time on PC. You can use controllers on PC somewhat easily as there is a flexibility to the entire setup. I still couch game on PC myself sometimes.

This thread isn't going to go well for you tbh.

Elaborate setup...

Well now I feel fancy for plugging my pc into my tv and sitting on a couch with a controller.

My setup is not elaborate. I run a long HDMI cable from my PC to my main TV. I have a wireless PC adapter for my Xbox One controller. And Steam big picture. Gaming from my couch, with beautiful 1080p60 gameplay.

Comfy Couch excuse: The Thread.

You can literally set-up any modern PC with HDMI ports to your HDMI TV like you would a console. Outside of having to set-up big-picture mode/automation to not need a keyboard to get around the OS: It's nearly 100% the same as your consoles.

It isn't. My issue with couch gaming on my PC is that I HAD to grab the mouse too often for my personal likes. I'm weird and that bothers the shit out of me for some reason. It's not a cohesive experience even with big picture mode. I still game on PC, but it really bothers me sometimes and it's a large reason why I primarily buy on console.

I do understand that most people don't mind and I'm not saying that it's not worth doing. It just doesn't work for me and my preferences.

I use an XB1 controller and have my PC in my living room and PC game from my couch. You don't need to be confined to a corner to play PC games nowadays.

Playing on consoles is not more comfortable, low FOV gives me headaches. :P

Now playing on a couch is indeed more comfortable, can't argue with that.

The crazy thing is that you can play on your PC on a couch as well. It is super elaborate though, sometimes, you have to connect a cable from your PC all the way to the TV.

Other times if you don't want to use a cable, you have to use a Steam Link and that takes FOREVER, I'm taking literal minutes for the first time setup. Who has the time?

How does this meme still exist. I play most my games on PC in a recliner on a big screen TV.

For 144hz fast paced I do a desk usually, but I always have the option.

Oxenfree is a odd game to make the switch on. That thing can run on a laptop. But I understand where you're coming from. My current PC setup is far from the living room, and at a desk. Which just isn't an enjoyable way to play a game most of the time for me, since I don't like M&KB.

It's actually a current worry I have with RE7. Might just move the entire PC over there since that's really the only pain. Wireless receivers for the controller (either steam or xbone for me), makes starting a game and playing an easy affair from anywhere.

If you have a good internet connection OP, steam link might be something worth looking into.

How is it not? It's exactly the same.

Like some others have said OP, elaborate is really not needed. A 20' HDMI cable and your done. Nothing elaborate about that. I use a Xbox One Wireless controller and I have a separate Wireless k/b and mouse for the times I need that, but mainly I use my PC on my 4k set and use my controller and it is like playing a next gen console today! No elaborate set up required!

Steam Controller?

No apologies needed, consoles are made to be plug and play and easy to use. Right now I've got my nVidia control panel bugging me about drivers, I'm tempted to update because my video playback is having issues, yet their updates have been 50/50 on breaking or fixing things for me this entire year. Stay comfortable in console land.

you could just get a nice comfy gaming chair and have the exact same experience as that comfy couch on PC ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How is that not seamless?
Having to logon in windows or setup steam to open in big picture mode. Basically if I have to use a mouse or keyboard at anytime during the process it's not seamless.

Especially with updates and Shit popping up when you just want to turn on your PC and play.

HDMI cable
Controller of your choice
Not being lazy or pedantic

Tada, PC gaming on a and couch.

This. My PC is basically a super Xbox One. It has two cords running out of it: an HDMI cord to the television, and a power cord running into the wall. Same as any console.

Honestly the main thing that keeps me on PC is 60+ fps.

If a console got released that could push high graphics at 60fps, I'd be all for it. I'm sorta hoping that MS with the Scorpio will learn from the Pro's mistakes and give the option for 60fps on every game.

If that happened I'd be much more willing to "settle down" with consoles, as I'm a father of two now and the PC hobby is costly and goes against "adulting" so to speak.

But fuck I love PC gaming in so many ways, consoles just feel too limiting.

HDMI cables.

As usual with these situations it just seems really odd, or like folks don't understand their options. Connecting your PC to your tv with a single cable is not "an elaborate setup".

But whatever

No, no, running an HDMI freaking cable to the TV and turning on Steam Big Picture is a lot of work you know. Also, those fancy wireless keyboards and mice never work, Steam Controller does not exist, and it's unfathomable that you could hook up Xbone, 360, PS3, PS4, Wii U pro, or any other controller in existence to a computer.

You also couldn't stream it through Nvidia Shield, Steam Link, another small PC with Steam streaming or any other method. That never works.

Seriously, it's the end of 2016. There are a lot of people (some on this very forum) who have no issues playing computer games on a "comfy couch" (I do as well, but I also have a comfy recliner I use). Knock it off people, this is not rocket freaking science.

You know what else is comfortable? 30FPS. Real easy on the eyes. PC players gotta deal with double that.

There you go. Just getting that one out of the way.

I have just the thread for you.

Just last month I finally took the plunge and built a gaming PC. The main factor preventing me from doing it until now was the perceived ease of use of a console. I don't like playing games at a desk and don't feel like coming home from work and then spending more time in an office chair looking at a computer monitor. I picked up a Steam Link for $20 during Black Friday and it is perfect for anyone looking for a console experience from a PC. I can boot it up into Steam BPM with a Dualshock 4 and use a console-like interface to play any game I want. They even just added native DS4 support to Steam so I can even play games without gamepad support. I'd be lying if I didn't say there were still some weird quirks that prevented it from being as simple and seamless as a console, but with some tinkering I have alleviated most of them and benefits of mods, the indie community, a huge library spanning generations, and emulation outweigh the few QoL quirks that come with a Steam Link.
