"Shitty" parts in games that the internet horribly exaggerated

The most recent example:

I just finished playing through FFXV. As I began reaching the infamous Chapter 13, my anticipation grew; what the hell is about to happen that absolutely soured so many gaffers on the game? The chapter that has been named the worst gameplay in all of Final Fantasy, or the entire year, perhaps the generation even. The endless chapter that went on far, far too long. The chapter that changed gameplay with such a left turn, it pissed everyone off. Articles were written about it. Square Enix themselves have pledged to alter/rebalance it.

The chapter loads up and my only thought is, what am I possibly about to embark on here!?

Me an hour and a half later:
That's it?

Are we so spoiled that this is really what is considered to be so bad that it had people ready to quit FFXV, a 30 hour game? There were Cloister of Trials in FFX I spent more time on when I was 10. Hell, I spent more time on the Blitzball + tutorial alone. Chapter 13 was the length I expected dungeons to be to begin with, let alone Chapter lengths. I was expecting Rogue Galaxy: Gladius Towers sized dungeon with iron boots equipped, underwater-escort-mission level of bloated tedium here. Sure, the card key stuff was inconvenient maybe? It was a mild change of pace at best. I can't imagine someone actually having a legitimate tantrum over
not having your weapons for an hour and a half, and getting a super-hax ring that insta-kills everything.

So I stamp the "awfulness" of FFXV, Chapter 13 as: horribly overblown.

Post other parts of games that GAF/internet swore up and down was total garbage, only to finally play it think "lol for real, that's it?"

Deadly Premonition, the thread.

Specifically the weirdness of the characters and the off-putting controls in combat. They're both in place for a specific reason, and they're not "shitty".

Yes, it was hard. But it's also a pretty awesome dungeon, with a moody atmosphere and clever tricks. You use your items to the fullest and yes, you'll have stuck...and that makes it even more memorable.

If anyone says The Fade (DA:O) they're getting punched.

Star Fox Assault on-foot missions. I mean, the controls weren't great, but it was far from being the worst thing in existence. Honestly, other than the controls, I thought the missions were pretty good.

Dark Souls 2, Shrine of Amana. It's actually a pretty cool area.

Lost Izalith. Just use the other entrance, folks.
Bad example, it takes forever to offer the 30 humanity (assuming you even have that much without boring farming and assuming you even know you can do that), I think I can kill Centipede Demon and run to Bed of Chaos faster than doing that shit :p

Taris in KOTOR 1.

One of my favorite parts of the game.

Peragus in KOTOR 2.

It's bad compared to the rest of the game, but it wasn't terrible. There was an interesting plotline and good dialogue.

Lost Iza and Blighttown.

but im a Souls fanboy so :/

yes! I liked the fade and was baffled when I saw it was hated and there were even mods to remove it lol

Xen in Half Life. You won't find me claiming it's my favorite level or anything, but I don't think it's that bad.

Dark Souls 2 Scholar's supposed enemy counts/ambushes. 9/10 of the complaints of the changes had similar enemy encounters in the base game.

There is but one easy answer to this.
the ending of mass effect 3
people basically shit on the whole series just cause the last 5 minutes didn't give a better explanation on how the choices played out and they weren't different enough.

People complaining about Blitzball in FF X. It takes 10 minutes and you don't even have to win. It's not that big a deal. I can uderstand people complain about Wakka's ultimate requirung a ton of Blitzball, but I've seen plenty of people who never even touched the post game content on GAF butch about the one Blito ball match you're forced to play.

Collecting all the Tribals in Jet Force Gemini. I didn't even realize that was a thing that was annoying or hard until the internet blew up about it.

Chaos System for Dishonored 1/2.

With the way some people talking about it, you'd think its the worst thing they ever encountered in the game.

The mining in Mass Effect 2. Yeah it was lame that you basically had to do it, but I found the minigame itself kind of fun and relaxing.

Came in for FFXV.

Leaving happy.

The hate for that level is ridiculous. Actually ridiculous. How the fuck is it that people are so angry and disgusted by this part to the point that SE is patching it? There's nothing wrong with it.

Oh, I know. The tailing mission in MGS4. I actually hate that game except that part. >.>

These people suck. The chaos system is pretty dope.

I really enjoyed the Batmobile sections in Arkham Knight.
I wouldn't say they're great, but they weren't the nightmarish deal breaker people built them up to be. The Batmobile was largely optional for open world traversal, and when you did need to use it - the sections were manageable. Riddler racetracks were pretty fun. Not to mention, it felt amazing when you were able to perfectly whip it around a corner.

The tank combat could get sloppy, but it really wasn't that poor.

Motion Controls in most games. If you believed GAF you'd think Star Fox Zero was the worst game ever made.
I'll stand by Star Fox Zero as one of the worst games ever made.

"Bravely Default's second half literally turned one of the best modern jrpgs to bottom tier crap."

Except the "second half" part everybody's talking about is a repetitive sequence that takes less than two hours to get through if you want to end it.

Hidden route, hidden covenant, costs lots of humanity, bad parts are still bad even if you bypass them, respawning Demon statue damage sponge asshole we've seen 200 times before that. Still sucks.

The ending of Bioshock 1. Taking fontaine down felt good and his death was hilarious, it's fucking fine, you dorks.

The whining for Chapter 13 from some people was unbelievable. I would even say that I liked how
dark and moody
that Chapter was. FFXV is a masterpiece.

I think the reason people were upset with the ME3 ending was because they were continuously told that their choices throughout the game would matter in the end and that the ending would me complex.

Instead choices ultimately mattered very little and it came down to a "pick 1 of 3 buttons" scenario. Not unlike the ending to Human Revolution.

Yeah my vote goes to Shrine of Amana, I actually think it's one of vanilla DS2's best levels.

To add something to the thread, the Chalice Dungeons aren't that terrible. They get a little repetitive but that's because most people did them all at once instead of spacing them throughout the main game. Bloodborne's combat mechanics are so good that I don't really mind the repetition too much.

You talking about the one that's hidden behind a covenant that people wouldn't bother spending 30 humanity on normally?

Yeah that's pretty awful.
Apart from my very first playthrough I've ended up with more than enough humanity to open it. Entering the area from the main entrance is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be anyway.

The ending to Mass Effect 3.

I was expecting the video-game story equivalent to a death in the family, but what I got was a great ending to a quality game (that does, admittedly, have some problems to it).
