Is this a Metroidvania? What's the combat like? Might pick it up.

It's often referred to as a Metroidvania, and there are similarities:

- 2D Open world
- combat
- upgrades
- backtracking

Combat is decent. There are two main attacks, a barrier attack where you have an energy field directly around the probe for close combat, then bombs which you place and they explode or you can combine with your barrier attack to send flying. When you do it right it feels great but stopping your momentum, placing the bomb then choosing direction to fire it off in is a skill that requires mastery!

Hey there! Mauro from MixedBag here! Thank so much for the forma.8 OT, we're so excited about the Switch release!

If you have any question about the game I'm here! :)

Thanks, should satisfy the itch until Samus Returns releases andd I can't go wrong for that price. Will buy it
when it goes up on Canadian shop

Nabbed, based purely on you guys loving it and the excellent price of less than a tenner.

Nice one :) the price is great imo. The game should give you 5-6 hours minimum for basic completion, but the true end requires collectible hunting so that adds to it even more!

One of about a hundred games I've bought on PSN based on knowing I'm interested yet I still haven't loaded it onto my Vita yet. Thank you to this thread and positive response to the Switch release for reminding me to get going on my backlog and actually enjoy Forma.8 someday soon...

How's the framerate? Picked it up for my iPad Air, but performance could be better. Might be tempted to double dip.

I had a couple of issues when entering an area where the game would experience bad slowdown for a second or two, but it was only like twice in the whole time with the game.

Didn't think I could get into this room at first, thought I might have to come back later. But nope, a bit of trying and bam, got in. Not sure what the item I got in there does quite yet, but hey.

The controls are perfect, that's what let me get in here, the craft did just what I expected.

It's mooooostly solid, and if you aren't a sensitive sort you probably won't notice drops. But gotta say, there have been some. So very very minor, though, it's more of a surprise when it happens.

Totally got stuck here, haha.

Sersiously could not figure it out. Ended up flying all the way back to the start room before realising a really clever mechanic, then coming back and getting past. Very clever mechanic indeed.

Was planning of getting this on the Wii U, but it arrived so late there so here I now have it on the Switch instead.

Only slow downs should be when you enter a couple of big areas: very heavy physics simulation kicking in for a couple of seconds before stabilizing.

I'm really interested in this game but I've read that it can be very slow, like just moving around and making progress, and that the game can be obtuse. I hate getting stuck in games, so I'm kinda hesitant to buy it. The visuals and music are both great though.

Game looks very lovely, and for that price I really want to get it right away... Only thing stopping me is that I want a couple other eShop games and don't have much at the moment. We'll see...

Played about an hour and it's definitely enjoyable, but I'm honestly not in love with the movement speed of your little robot dude. I get that its intentional, nor am I saying that you should be able to move like the Vic Viper, but it does make exploring less fun than I think it could be.

The look and sound however is phenomenal.

picked this up. was interested when it was announced for the Wii U and then I forgot about it. at $10 it was impulse territory.

neat game. definitely a chillout vibes kind of game.

one thing is that the rumble when you drop a bomb is way too fucking loud. that seems to be a thing with indies, making the rumble way too loud. in handheld mode it was super distracting. I guess there's an immersion factor there as every time I'd drop a bomb I'd wait in anticipation for it to explode lol

Flew under my radar on the wiiU, but game is my next purchase on the switch.

Bought this last night; great timing as I've just finished Blaster Master Zero and wanted another 'Metroidvania' to keep me busy until Samus Returns lands next month.

I'd love to be able to also use the d-pad for movement and navigating the menu.

Also, any tips on using the bomb+launcher combo? Seems you can't aim it very easily.

Great stuff, i'll add it to the OP when you've finished it!

Very late (the summer break holiday didn't helo, alongise the italian wifi net...!)

Here my review:

Switchitalia.it: 8/10

The minimalist aesthetic approach, the great atmosphere created by the OST and the intimist mood, alongside the ermetic playability that ask to be unveiled step by step by the true videogame lover, present a true little Italian hidden gem of the indie scene.

Oh, game is Italian-made? You, guys, are on a roll lately ; )

If you have any question about the game I'm here! :)

Whoa, I missed this thread.

I have a question. Is there any final boss, or is the ending the same with 100% of completion.

Also, can you upload more of the soundtrack? It's probably one of the things that grabbed my attention the most

Thanks!

Finished this last week - a thoroughly enjoyable game that certainly scratches that 'Metroidvania' itch.

I'm going for 100% completion and have one more of those nut/cog things to collect, but it's driving me mad! I know it's:
In the room where you collect the upgrade that shows you which areas still have hidden items. It's where you follow the directions based on the symbols. The first set of directions takes you to the aforementioned upgrade, though there's a second set (up, up, down, right, right, up IIRC) that seems to do nothing

Can anyone help?

Picked this up a couple days ago. I play it every so often, and I'm surprised at how engaging it gets. Once you get into the pace of the game/world/themes then you really find yourself immersed! For the cheap ass price you really can't go wrong.

Yeah I finished the game, but going for 100% and this part is killing me :|

Tempted to PM the devs for help 😂
