Someone made a petition to revoke EA's Star Wars license.

I'm sure Disney is going to listen to this and break whatever agreement they have.
Obviously thats not going to happen, however, if Disney sees bad press they do things as recent events showed. So maybe they will just not renew the Liscence with EA once it expires.

As much as it sucks, EA won the contract fair and square. Better to just boycott their games (thus forcing them to make better ones) than revoking a consensual deal.

Signed. I don't normally do this and tbh I found the site to be rather obnoxious. I came to sign, not pay them money, share on FB or sign under any of the 20 other petitions I have no clue what they were about :|

Gladly signed.

Electronic Arts has managed to take a beloved franchise and make it TOXIC to the video game world.

If Disney wants to do this right, they'll cancel the license ASAP or at least direct Electronic Arts to release any future content for free. EA is damaging the Star Wars IP.

Care to share more? Because I'd like to know if Disney is really fixing itself or just axes partners.

They extended Star Wars TFA showing, and basically manpowered the Los Angeles Cinemarama Dome to break their agreement with Tarantino about The Hateful Eight. With TFA making bucketloads of money, and is everywhere, Disney pulled a dick move.

That was bad press. Have they done something about that since?

Signed as well. Can’t hurt and maybe someone at Disney will take notice. Does anyone know if Disney gets a piece of the loot box profits?

Where would Disney got with it's license... Activision? I mean fuck EA for the shit they did with the latest game but I'd take EA over Activision

Publish the games themselves?

Just an Idea.

Have Lucasarts as a legit developer again as inhouse at Disney and they publish the games.

I wonder how many of those that signed also bought BF2?

I would think instead of signing some petition, maybe just don't buy the games?...

Best case scenario would be that we get Disney to not sign a new license to EA when this expires.
Disney is all about the money but I do hope they realize they can make the same amount of money without involving a shit stain company and the PR migraines that follow. EA losing the rights would be the funniest thing ever.

Maybe not sign the whole license to one company?

Kind of like what Disney Marvel is doing, Capcom does the fighting game, Square Enix does something else, and Sony's doing Spiderman instead of putting all eggs in Activision basket.

Looking on it, what the hell has EA done with Star Wars so far, two games as a service multiplayer games when the franchise is oozing expanded lore out of every orifice.

I hate what BF2 is and I didnt buy it specifically because of the controversy. However, does anyone think that if another publisher was making big star wars games it would be different?

That is where games as a whole are right now, especially AAA and mobile. It is all about monetization and recurrent income. Any big publisher (and SW would only go to a big publisher) would do the same and Disney would happily accept the money.

My point being that changing from EA isnt really going to do anything. Aggressively fighting against P2W and monetization in general might do something though.

Yeah I think that's the tricky part.

As much as I dislike what EA has been doing with the Star Wars IP I don't really see Activision or Ubisoft doing a better job. BF2 seems like it could have been fun without the loot box things, personally I wouldn't ever care about the game if it was made by Ubisoft.
And I doubt Disney wants to give the rights to Sony/Ms

Disney Infinity nosedived and Disney completely pulled out of making games.

They rather just license it. Probably a safer venture while they focus on movies.

If I were Disney, I'd pass the licence to Nintendo, who would work with Arika — a steady pair of hands — to develop the next Star Wars title.

Give it to Nintendo so we can get another Rogue Squadron. I'm confident that title would be free of the P2W BS in Battlefront 2. I'm also dreaming about a single player character action Jedi title developed by Platinum games in the vein of a Bayonetta or MGS Reveangance. A pipe-dream, I know...

Possible future quote if this petition works.

"Hey Respawn, fans petitioned to have the Star Wars license revoked. Disney caved in. So, all that work you did on that Star Wars project for us, turn it into Titanfall 3. Oh, and when you're done with that, you are all fired and we get to keep the Titanfall IP and Respawn name. Thanks." - Andrew Wilson

Oh please, that's happening even if EA keeps the Star Wars license.

On one side that would kill any chance for a new Kotor game by Bioware...
... on the other side that would open a way to get a new kotor game by Obsidian...

online petitions.... have these ever had any influence ever?

I am not entirely sure if it was due to the online petitions alone, (although I would bet it heavily influenced it) but Blizzard kind of did a complete 180 on Vanilla servers from their previous stance of "You think you do, but you don't" line when asked at a couple Blizzcon's back. So who knows, this could be worth a few minutes of your time to sign imo.

I was tlaking about the Battlefront 2 uprising which caused Disney to step in.

People saying vote with your wallet because online petitions don't work are living in the past.
50k users not buying game with so big marketing budget won't even be a blip on the radar.
But those 50000 people doing something in social media that gets them noticed and hopefully generating press articles are something marketing departmens care about.

Obviously this won't result in immediate license revoke but when license need to be extended who knows what will happen.

Are people going to realize that this is not a case of EA trying to do something and then Disney found out and scolded them? Disney was without question all aboard the microtransaction train, in fact it wouldnt shock me if they have it mandatory in the 10 year contract they have, because a 10 year exclusive deal with the biggest IP in the world doesnt come cheap or without heavy big brother eyes on you. If you want AAA Star Wars games you are either getting a game with microtransactions or you are getting a game that starts at $89.99+ which do you want?
