I laughed when IW said that they're aiming to have a better quality experience than ant FPS this year, but from the footage we've seen they're doing some pretty spectacular stuff (both on the SP and MP side). The MP sounds so deep with so many interesting gameplay options (hardcore mode, sounds...hardcore, no hud and one hit kills). And unlike COD2 the MP should be solid from day one (thanks to the MP beta). Check out the first vid where the IW dev talks about the various aspects of MP, there's a good chance this could be the MP (and SP?) FPS of the year.

So we've got Halo 3, COD4, Quake Wars, UT3 and TF2.

There's some stiff competition this year, I still think COD4 stands a good shot at being the best MP this year.

I have to say this I have enjoyed the community of players alot better on COD3 than the halo community. People seem to be easier to get along with than halo IE "ZOMG you didn't get 50 kills and only 3 deaths this round I'm not playing on your team anymore". When I started playing the halo 3 beta I hated that that was a prevalent attitude even though I pretty good before it was over. Personally I will probably be playing more COD4 multiplayer than Halo 3 although I will be all over the Halo 3 SP.

Its going to be tight with Halo 3 and UT3 in the mix...good games all around though. Either way fps multiplayer is in good shape.

Other then graphics I have little faith in Unreal Tournament 3... I can't really say why though... I used to love this series so much... Maybe it will shock me and be awsome.

Can't believe I forgot Team Fortress 2 though! That game looks so good and fun!
I am thinking this game could very well win the title.

well, whatever the case of those games, Bioshock is an FPS-RPG. Watching any of the videos shows that it is action packed, but it also has RPG elements.

Anyways, Halo 3 and Unreal Tournament III come out this year, as well.
Those are two series that have been, arguably, the best MP FPS games on a console and on PC, respectively.
I couldn't picture COD4 taking the crown away from either of those two.

Halo 3 defiantly will be the better multiplayer game over COD4. In fact I think Halo 3 will be FPS of the year. I don't know why so many aren't hyping it.

Halo 3 is just more of the same, that's the main reason I'm not that excited about it. For me the other 3 seems to be bringing some more new stuff into the genre.

I didnt care for Halo3 beta multiplayer, im kind of down on Halo 3 as a whole.

COD4 multiplayer looks better. Could be THE multiplayer for this gen.

Right, then. Well, its got a lot of good competition. And, as good as COD4 looks, I don't think it'll be nearly as fun as, say, Halo 3.

Normally, I may have called this game for MP FPS OTY. But, not with the competition it has going this year.
