Jeff Minter's Gridrunner++ coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade

So sayeth Jeff Minter himself:

Work-wise, I'm now into the redesign of GR++ for XBLA. I already have it running modified for the different aspect ratio and working off the x360 pad as opposed to the mouse, and I'm changing and extending the gameplay; it'll be a much more involved game than the PC-only predecessor. I'm getting all the gameplay working first then I'll overhaul the graphics; we'll likely go for algo generated 3D shapes rather than the hand-drawn sprites of the PC original.

I hope it is more like the C64 version.

I picked up Space Giraffe, but I just can't enjoy it. I guess I was never much of a Tempest fan and it is too cluttered with spacey graphics.

It would have been much better if it had kept the "Horse Smegma" and "Fluff fucker" language in it.

I still haven't managed to understand Space Giraffe, and have all but given up on it for now, but GridRunner++ I'm there day one baby. YOUR MOTHER WAS A HAMPSTER, AND YOUR FATHER SMELT OF ELDERBERRIES! MMMM, FLUFFY SHEEPY!

I'll probably pick this up simply because Space Giraffe is one of the best games I've played this year. I think I've played the C64 version of Grid Runner (it was a long time ago) and didn't think much of it. But hey, I'm sure it will be 400 points and that makes it worth it.

I love the last picture. I predict that the game won't use graphics at all. It'll make your 360 spit out a pill, which you must then consume causing you to "see" the game in your mind.

those graphics look like some stoner's bumper sticker. look nothing like the earlier versions. pretty lame. but i guess his acolades will eat anything up.

That last image is obviously a joke.

llamasoft has been the coolest thing ever happened to xbla :D
Yeah, now where's Tempest 2000?
I know that Tempest is going to hit XBLA soon, but I read the review in this month's OXM, and I'm not getting my hopes up for that one...

Whoa, is he actually making this game, or did he just post this with this fucked-up, unplayable-looking screenshot as a tease for everybody who thought Space Giraffe was a visual mess?

The pictures are Angry Gamer's doing. they're just being silly about the weird-ass Space Giraffe stuff :)

The meltdown? I think I'm missing something.

I'm going to be genuinely ticked if it's not patched. It's so close to being awesome, but the exploit makes it worthless to me.

I think it's more to do with the fact that everyone has stopped playing it waiting for the patch, because the leaderboards are going to be wiped. So why bother trying to get a high score? This patch needs to either be canceled or put up ASAP. It must be hurting the game tremendously.

Awhile back Jeff Minter basically went nuts over all of the people winging about the game and decided he had enough and that there would be no more patches.

Wow. It's the developer equivalent of taking his ball and going home. :lol

I don't think I'd like Minter half as much if he didn't do batshit insane stuff like that, though. I mean, who the hell refuses to patch something because too many people want it patched?

Whatta guy.

I gotta step in and clarify something.

Jeff has completed and submitted the patch. It took him less than an hour to do.

It's Microsoft's compliance and testing procedures that are causing the delays.

So chill. It's coming.

Don't forget the t-shirt!

The t-shirt is hilarious. And I say that as someone who has a great deal of respect and time for Dan. I think he's dealt with the whole thing pretty well, too.

oh thank god.

Well, whatever at his meltdown, then. The game hardly needs fixing outside of this initial patch, I'm sure.

You can't be serious.

And I'm another in the "didn't get Space Giraffe" camp. I couldn't tell when I could or couldn't bump enemies, etc. I'll definetly give it another shot eventually though.

Meh... I WANTED to like Space Giraffe. I really, really did. I loved the idea that Space Giraffe represented.

But I just wasn't feeling the gameplay, at all. Just felt a little flat, from the demo.

Give it an hour or so, just spend your time figuring it out and learning how to read the visuals. It's rewarding as fuck.
