Holy shit this game comes out in exactly one week and no one is talking about it. Here's a quick rundown:

FACTS:
* Second longest Fire Emblem in series history (38 Chapters)
* Brand new storytelling approach - Each chapter has a "Main Character" instead of constantly following one Lord
* Direct sequel to Path of Radiance
* A PoR save with high level characters will result in bonuses for those characters
* Largest playable cast in series history. All but one PoR character returns, and 3 characters who were not playable before now are. Additionally 20 brand new characters have been added for a staggering 72 recruitable characters.
* New weapon rank (SS) is added
* Dark Magic is back after an absence in PoR, completing the Magic Triangle
* Beorc characters can now promote TWICE - HOLY SHIT!!!
* Laguz can now grow up to level 40, and have a weak attack in their untransformed state. A new Laguz race has been added.
* Elevated Terrain now affects battles. This means 3D finally matters.
* Redone graphics and greatly improved animation
* A variety of control options, including playing with the Wiimote alone or using a Gamecube controller
* RPG GOTY
* Extremely bad ass cutscenes that are both more numerous than those in PoR, and of much greater scope and quality. See an example here:

In-Depth Interview: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/27052.html
The game now supports 16:9 widescreen (newly added for North America), giving players a better view of the battlefield. Trailer cinemas have been added in key sequences to help add to the cinematic and epic feel of the game. A new “Battle Save” function allows novice players to create a permanent save mid-battle. This feature is new to the Fire Emblem series and is designed to make the game more accessible to new gamers. Additionally, players have a number of controller options, from using the Wii Remote™ on its own (vertically or horizontally) to using a Classic Controller™ or even a Nintendo GameCube™ controller (for fans who were familiar with the controls from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance).
If you love the series, you're going to buy this anyway. If you're new to the series, there's never been a better time to be introduced.

DON'T LET MARIO GALAXY MAKE YOU FORGET ABOUT THIS GAME!

* Control the game by playing with the Wiimote turned on its side

Seriously? I can't believe they didn't use the Wiimote as a pointer to assign units, etc. Seems like a no-brainer.

Every chapter?

Haven't decided if I'm going to buy this Day 1 or not. Just a question of when I'll have time to play it.

I'm a bit worried this will be too much for me (I'm a SRPG newbie) but I might give it a shot. Are there different difficulty levels or no?

This is one of the best SRPG series ever in my opinion. If the writing and gameplay exceed or even meet its predecessors, this will definitely be one of my top five games of the year. Lets hope this game brings more to the table like PoR did. Judging from the OP, it will be a huge improvement over already excellent games.

Yes, there are diff levels of difficulty. You should be able to jump right in.

Nice!

Lovely! PoR's cutscenes were gorgeous, but the battle animations were woeful, especially in comparison with the beautiful animation for the GBA.

* Beorc characters can now promote TWICE - HOLY SHIT!!!
Holy shit is right, that's awesome!

I've never played any of the Fire Emblem games and am considering buying this. If I enjoyed the Ogre Battle games, will I like this?

If anyone wants Fire Emblem: PoR, I'm selling my copy. Someone offered for it in the buy/sell thread a long time ago, but never got back to me. No one else has shown interest. :(

If I had a Wii, I'd be all over this.

Yes. Fire Emblem excels in both strategy gameplay and quality presentation, with great writing and art direction across the board. I know you'll love it.

I only played Tactics Ogre, and if that's anything like Ogre Battle, Fire Emblem is a much faster game. Also, the big strategy point of it is that once your characters die, they stay dead, and there's no reviving them.

It's the main reason I bought mine.

Can't wait. Too bad I never got used to Sothe in PoR because he was so useless in PoR.

Been looking forward to it!

Here are my transferrable character stats from Hard mode:

Ike (level 20) (weapon level S, A support with Soren and B with Titania, Abilities: Aether)
HP 56 (I think this is MAX)
Str 26 (max)
Mag 14
Skill 27 (max)
Spd 28 (max)
Lck 17
Def 23+5
Res 22 (max)

Soren (level 20) (weapon levels: Fire: B Wind: A Lightning: D Heal: E. A support with Ike. Abilities: Vantage and Adept)
HP 39
Str 2
Mag 30 (max)
Skill 28 (max)
Spd 28 (max)
Lck 16
Def 9
Res 25

Lady Astrid (level 20) (weapon levels: Bow: S Sword: B. Abilities: Sol)
HP 50
Str 22 (max)
Mag 12
Skill 26 (max)
Spd 27 (max)
Lck 18
Def 24
Res 21

And those are my only level 20 characters. I can redo the last chapter and get Mia and Reyson in too, but I'm a bit lazy. I also have 7 coins.

how many times did you reset?

I picked up PoR after RD was announced, so I knew to pimp out my Sothe. A steady diet of performance enhancing items and a Stilletto made him a badass in spite of not being able to promote. I ended up maxxing out all but, I think, two of his stats. Which is a good thing, because Sothe's stats actually transfer directly over to Radiant Dawn.

slaughterking said:
Can someone explain this into more detail? What is considered a high level (max?) und to what bonuses will they lead?
For every character besides Sothe who has reached max level and has at least one stat maxxed out, that character will receive a sizeable bonus to their starting stats in Radiant Dawn. I forget the exact numbers, but it is significant. Sothe is the only character who has his stats transfer over exactly.

The only times I reset was if I died, I don't bother to do it if nothing happens when I level up. I might've done it if it was in the base via bonus exp though. I don't recll how many times I've reset but I've defintiely done it a few times when a character has died.

Topic creator also forgot to add that Nintendo of America has added in 16:9 widescreen mode and also English subitles in the cutscenes (voices are also in English, but now you can make out any hard to hear dialogue)!

I don't wish to start a debate here, but Zack & Wiki, New Blood and Mario Galaxy are not shovelware.

If order this game from amazon, will they ship it on Nov. 5 when it comes out or if they have it already in their warehouses, ship it a little earlier to arrive closer to Nov 5?

Amazon will most likely ship it out a day or two after release. At least that's been my experience with them for all of my past pre-orders this year.

Why the hell isn't there a one-handed control scheme?

I assume you can use the wiimote controls with one hand just hold it vertical instead of horizontal and just press the d pad buttons as if it was still being held horizontal.

It doesn't matter! This thread is for Fire Emblem! Let's not open a window for horrible system wars, please.

I know that this got 33/40 (three eights and a nine) in Famitsu, but do any of you know what they said in their reviews?

Shame this happens to come out now, I'm too busy with Zack & Wiki, PWAA3, Orange Box, Phantom Hourglass and soon to be Mario Galaxy. I'll buy it to show my support now but I probably won't be playing it till much later.

The US version adds in 16 x 9 support and a feature that lets you save midway during a battle doesn't it? (AN UTTER GODSEND IF TRUE!)

This game is the reason why I purchased POR used about a week ago.

Lot of traps :/

Damn good game nonetheless, much in the same vein as Disgaea, FFTA, Advance Wars, and Tactics Ogre, the other SRPGs I've played over the past few years.

Random-battle wooden-3D-cutscene 30-sec-attack-sequence JRPG? I'm done with you.

Kevar said:
Thankfully I think you can turn that "mid-battle save" horseshit off. Quicksave is the only way to play.

I'm also not too fond of the permanent mid save thing. It's a cool feature but, what happens if you save right before your unit gets killed? Reseting won't help. :lol

Well, let's see how it plays out first.
