In this thread we post songs sung in foreign languages

I was reading about a guy’s predicament in trying to get a song out of his head in this thread and posted some good foreign language songs to try and help. Then I realised, that I want some new foreign language music.

In the English-speaking world, we are very Anglo-centric when it comes to musical taste. Travelling to Europe and Latin America has shown me that much of the rest of the world isn’t like this. In this thread, we post good songs in languages other than English* to expose our fellow GAFers to musical delights that they might otherwise not be exposed to.

Now the only rules are that the song has to be mainly in a language other than English* and it has to be good. A good indication would be that the song was popular in its country of origin at some point, but this need not be the case.

I’ll start.

Spanish

Juanes - A Dios Le Pido

Aventura - Obsecion

Julio Iglesias - Hey!

Los Iracundos - Te Lo Pido de Rodillas

Marco Antonio Solis - Navidad Sin Ti

Pedro Infante - Copas Tras Copas

Emanuelle, Jose Feliciano & Ruben Blades - Tu Me Haces Falta

Juan Gabriel - Querida

Italian:

Negramaro - Come Sempre

Portuguese:

Kaoma - La Lambada

German:

Die Toten Hosen - Hier Kommt Alex

Christina Steurmer - Mama

Hindi (?):

Hussan - Bhangra Nights

Japanese:

Kyu Sakamoto - Sukiyaki

* Since this is an English language board, foreign is defined as anything dissimilar enough to the Queen's English as to be unrecognisable to the majority of monolingual modern English speakers.

I'll be nice and even allow songs in English-hybrid or English-derived dialects such as Scots and Creole ;)

Surely you mean "songs not sung in English"? There are many people here for whom English IS the foreign language.
Allow me to preempt the inevitable and mention there are those who would claim certain variants of English are "foreign languages". ;)

Galician (you didn't expect this one, did you? :P The singer is Portuguese so the accent's a little off)

Carlos Núñez - O pozo de Arán

Carlos Núñez/Noa - A lavandeira da noite - Noa's the Israeli singer... Damn, her accent's perfect, she sounds like a native to me o_O

Spanish

Juanes - La vida es un ratico - I think it's a beautiful song

Los Piratas - Promesas que no valen nada

Iván Ferreiro - El equilibrio es imposible

French

Superbus - Radio Song - Very energetic

Vanessa Paradis (aka Johnny Depp's wife) - Joe le Taxi - For some reason I like this song :lol I remember it playing on vh1 all the time. I didn't know it before

Stelios Kazantzidis Efuge Efuge
youtube
From the soundtrack of the Wire awesome( there is a better sounding version on youtube but might have Wire spoilers in it so I didn't post that one).

Ali Farke Toure pretty much everthing I've heard is good, and This compilation from World Circuit is awesome.

For Indian Singers Asha Bhonsle, Lata Mangeshgar, Kishoke Kumar (amongst others) all had great voices well worth checking out.

Some various finnish music I've been listening to lately:

Jukka Poika ja Jenkkarekka - Soita se uudestaan
CMX - Ruoste (I have no idea what is going on in this video)
Mokoma - Marras

Edit: Some more links. These are all metal or rock of some sort (I don't usually bother with the genre stuff).

Timo Rautiainen & Trio Niskalaukaus - Nyt On Mies!
Viikate - Tie (I really like their style)
Kotiteollisuus - Rakastaa, Ei Rakasta (I like the song Jos Sanon more, but the video is a bit too NSFW and because MidiSurf posted Minä Olen while I was editing I changed this)

And while I was browsing youtube for these I came upon these.

Apulanta - Reunallat aka Bring Me Down
In finnish
In english

Apulanta - Viivakoodit aka Circles
In finnish
In english

Also surprise swedish!
Finntroll - Trollhammaren

"Wurstwasser" from Mundstuhl:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i276aH2jNAE

Willst du dieses Wasser trinken
Nie mehr andres Wasser trinken
Wasch dir deine Seele rein
Wurstwasser, Wurstwasser
Jaaa...denn wir sind Wurstwasser
Nichts anderes als Wurstwasser
Macht mit bei Wurstwasser
Nichts anderem als Wurstwasser

Nimm die Taufe für dein Leben
Ja, ich will mein Leben geben
Gedienet sei dir unser Graben

Wurstwasser, Wurstwasser

Jaaa...denn wir sind Wurstwasser
Nichts anderes als Wurstwasser
Macht mit bei Wurstwasser
Nichts anderem als Wurstwasser

Jaaa!

Trink das Wasser dieser Wurst
Denn es löscht den Todesdurst
Unsre Ehe, unser Stolz

Wurstwasser, Wurstwasser

Jaaa!

Jaaa...denn wir sind Wurstwasser
Nichts anderes als Wurstwasser
Macht mit bei Wurstwasser
Nichts anderem als Wurstwasser

Denn wir sind Wurstwasser
Es gibt noch leckeres Wurstwasser
Macht mit bei Wurstwasser
Getränktes, klares Wurstwasser
Denn wir sind Wurstwasser
Ein Königreich für Wurstwasser
Mach mit bei Wurstwasser
Ich lebe nur für Wurstwasser
Wurstwasser (Du schmeckst so gut)
Wurstwasser (Du schmeckst so gut)
Wurstwasser (Du schmeckst so gut)
Wurstwasser (Du schmeckst so gut)

Representing smaller, more unknown countries - Slovenia.

Siddharta, undeniably the most successful Slovenian rock band ever, tried to make it internationally too (released an album in Slovenian and English), but it didn't really work out.

One of their best song .. Rave:

From their latest album, Domine:

.. and two of their older, most popular songs:

More like most infamous rock band in Germany ;)

well both of it. but having a bad reputation is not necessarely a band thing for a rock band. they sold more albums in germany and had bigger concerts than any other german band in the last ten years.

I love the video..

Pretty much the reason I have chosen this song. They doing some great videos with their new songs too bad I don't really think they did anything special post 2000. The glory days of Planet Punk will never come back :(
