UK :

Wii Fit’ flexes its muscles at the top of the All Formats chart this week, giving Nintendo a very healthy complexion thanks to the 6th fastest selling UK debut ever (only bettered by GTA, Halo and Gran Turismo titles).
The fitness game was launched on Friday, bundled with a balance board accessory at a price of £69.99 and was bought by roughly 1 in 10 Wii console owners over its first 2 days of release. ‘Wii Fit’ recorded an estimated £16.3m making it the 3rd largest launch in terms of value for a video gaming product, behind ‘Gran Theft Auto: San Andreas’ (£24.2m in week 44 2004) and ‘Halo 3’ (£16.9m in week 39 2007). Nintendo has now eclipsed the record-breaking launch only two weeks ago of ‘Mario Kart Wii’ with ‘Wii Fit’ replacing it as the Japanese giant’s fastest selling title in the UK. Sales of ‘Mario Kart Wii’ slow dramatically this week, slipping by 62%, but the popular racer only drops to No2 while Sega’s ‘Mario & Sonic’ also makes way, down from No2 to No3. Half of all Wii software sold this week was ‘Wii Fit’ sales, while 79% was published by either Nintendo or Sega. It is the first time since ‘Pokemon Ruby’ and ‘Pokemon Sapphire’ on GBA five years ago that Nintendo has had the top 2 games in the All Formats Chart.
‘Gran Turismo 5: Prologue’ and ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2008’ fall one place, dropping to No’s 4 and 5 respectively. The ever-present ‘Brain Training’ is the only All Formats Top 10 game to move up the chart, climbing from No9 to No8. Bundling and retailer promotions mean rises for ‘Sonic and the Secret Rings’ up from No25 to No17, ‘Rayman Raving Rabbids 2’ up from No22 to No19, ‘WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008’ up from No34 to No21 and ‘Halo 3’ a re-entry at No31. The only other new entry this week is Sony’s ‘Singstar Summer Party’ on PS2, which debuts at No30.

Well, Nice debut for Wii Fit as expected and great legs for MK Wii and PES Play Maker .

Sega, as usal, is impressive ! serioulsy, since when their software are there

14 Wii titles which charted is pretty amazing

We need numbers :(

‘Wii Fit’ flexes its muscles at the top of the All Formats chart this week, giving Nintendo a very healthy complexion thanks to the 6th fastest selling UK debut ever (only bettered by GTA, Halo and Gran Turismo titles).

The only other new entry this week is Sony’s ‘Singstar Summer Party’ on PS2, which debuts at No30.

oh boy, next week should be epic.

Since we don't get actual figures, the real interesting thing to watch will be how effectively GTA IV pulls up other games on the PS3/360 platforms.

GTA IV will be number 1, that's not in question. But how many PS3 games will move back into the charts, for example? I think the Wii's current software dominance is at least in part due to Wii Fit/Mario Kart helping other older titles move back in (such as SMG). If the PS3 pulls, say, 10 games in the top 40 next week instead of 5, that will be our best indication of very strong software/hardware sales to go along with the unquestionable behemoth that is GTA IV. The same applies to the 360, of course.

Wow Wii Fit absolutely merked it, incredible. I wasn't expecting it to beat MKWii's first day numbers.
Expect something special to beat Wii Fit's first week numbers next week tho :D It's coming...

Good to see Galaxy back too, it shall forever deserve more sales.

Nintendo has made a great comeback in th UK. The gamecube didn't exist here sales wise. Now the wii is well established in 1st. If Nintendo had followed what all the hardcore complainers wanted they would still be in last place by a large margin. The hardcore will alway scream at those that think outside the box to get back in the box. Luckily Nintendo doesn't listen to them.

By publisher for UK

(Nintendo) 12
(Ubisoft) 6
(Sega) 5
(Activision) 4
(SCE Europe) 3
(Electronic Arts) 3
(THQ) 2
(505 Games) 1
(Take2) 1
(Microsoft) 1
(Midway) 1
(Konami) 1

Just for reference for next week, I think this will be interesting to see who makes money even when GTA IV is out.

:D @ wii software

We all knew hardcore non gamers would line up for wii fit. Those non gamers do anything to buy a non game, so they are able to have a non gaming weekend.

So Wii Fit was a faster seller than Mario Kart Wii??...I didn't think it would do that well.

Damn supermarkets making a fool out of me and my predictions :lol

Great to see sales for the thing, not sure that GTAIV can actually beat that on an individual basis in terms of revenue. The 5 day Vs 2 day will screw with the analysis though.

Pretty sure that the above estimation of 230k is a low ball but in the right area, but I don't have all my data at work. Its over 200k for sure though. If we do get the mointhly data the same as last month it will/should tell us Wii Fit's 2 day sales :D

Such an exciting time to be a UK stat hungry analytical gamer
or geek for short
.

Edit: Oh and the Next generation officially starts in 7 hours when the holy Trinity of Wii Fit, GTAIVx and GTAIVp are all alligned and out.

That's the people who picked up a 360 for GTA IV and got Halo 3 at the same time. It'll be in and out of the charts for the next two months.

If you look back in the old thread Nintendo says its installed base is 2.5 million so the launch of Wii Fit should be 250,000 which would go in line with being the 6th best launch ever.

26 (34) [360] Halo 3 (Microsoft)

It says in the blurb that it's due to either bundling or retailer promotions...

Despite the hatred for Wii Fit around here, isn't ironic that the title that got Galaxy back on the charts was in fact Wii Fit?

Oh, and holy shit at Sonic and the Secret Rings, that thing has monster legs, its going to end up with a really mammoth LTD in the UK.

Yup - residuals are the best way to see how many people are picking up new hardware. Which PS3 games would a GTA pack buyer want to get too?

Oh and word on the highstreet this weekend is that the winner out of X360 and PS3 is going to be whichever shipped the most copies. It's gonna get messy...

The chances are higher that stores that don't have stock Mario and Sonic are selling Mario or Sonic as an alternative. Why else would Sonic and the Secret rings be in the chart this week? And tbh is Mario is pretty low, it's nothing to shout about.

Wow @ Wii Fit!

We know Wii's installed base was just over 2.5 million by the end of March, from Nintendo's financial briefing, so will be ~2.6 million now, which means ~260K opening for the game, which is amazing for a new IP!

It really is a great game and deserves the success :D

This chart:

That gets balanced out by the fact that Wii Fit also got Sight Training back on the charts, above Galaxy.

Impressive WiiFit figures. It would be great even for a hardcore title, since this will sell over the long run the figures are pretty insane. And there were posters who really thought that this would bomb. :lol

It also helps more traditional games. Good to see SMG back and SATSR on the rise. But WWE? Really? Never imagined a game like this would get a boost from WiiFit.

GT5 showing a lot of staying power, will be interesting to see if GTA can push it in front of M&S or MK next week (or push other titles as well).

Media-Create chart? Wii is a beast and so on...

Something that I find really surprising is that Time Crisis 4 manages to hold on to a somewhat decent position. I thought it wouldn't even chart last week, outdated graphics, high price and all.

SATSR has been chilling in the charts for a long time.

Go Sega!

Ehm, no, there's hardly been a week when it was out of the charts since it was released over a year ago.
