DK3713 - Nomura Interview

Didn't see this posted anywhere...
The FFVII announcement was mentioned in the Sony E3 thread already, but here's the whole thing:

Here it is, retranslated but unedited so some parts might read a bit awkward:

-First of all, please tell us why you decided to hold the DK∑3713 event.
Nomura: Up until now, we've held the Square-Enix Party a number of times, but it wasn't specifically designated as a once-every-two-years event. Unfortunately, due to unforseen circumstances, we've been unable to hold that event this year. That said, though, it would be very unfortunate to be unable to present to gamers, anything until TGS in October. Because of this, we wanted try to incorporate an event into our schedule, even if it were on a very small scale. This time around, the marketing staff of the the titles I'm involved with were the ones who setup the event, so DK∑3713 is not a company-wide event. Because of this we're limited to 400 people every 3 hours 3 times a day for 2 days. We've limited it to a total of 2400 being our maximum capacity.

-What will the event hall be like?
Nomura: Previously we've shown videos in a a closed theatre, but this time around we'll be showing the videos in an more public setting. This allows people who are waiting in line to try out demos to watch the videos while waiting. Even though there's a limitation of 400people/3hrs, based on our calculations, even if you demo everything, you should still have more than enough time to watch the videos as well. We've also arranged a theatre that will accommodate about 100 people as well.

-What would be "not-to-be-missed" at DK∑3713?
Nomura: Dssidia FF and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep can be demoed. In particular, KHBSS is amazing.

-What aspect of KHBSS is amazing?
Nomura: Of course the fact that it's part of the KH series, but it feels very new. There's an original gaming system in place now, and we plan on setting up the demos so you can experience that in particular.

-Will there be other titles to demo?
Nomura: Of course KH 358/2 Days will be demoable. Also, Sigma Harmonics will be playable as well.

-What can we expect from the FF Versus 13 side of things?
Nomura: Currently, the Cinematics Team is heavily involved in FFVIIAC Complete (ACC) and don't have the luxury to work on other projects. The console development team (i think?) is also heavily focused on FF13 so the number of people in the FF Versus 13 team is extremely limited. Because of this, we're unsure if we'll even be able to present the current status of FF Versus XIII at this point in time.

-How is the progression of ACC?
Nomura: Things that had been set in stone before are more or less near completion, but due to additions to the scenario, the amount of editing required has increased further than expected...

-So that means there will be a significant amount of content?
Nomura: There are parts which have been remade as well, so there should be quite a bit of content. The release timeframe has been decided. We hope that people who have seen AC before will also be able to enjoy ACC anew.

-So that means there'll be some type of announcement in regards to ACC?
Nomura: We'll announce the release period. There will also be another major announcement so please look forward to that.

-Along those lines, what's planned for TGS in October?
Nomura: For those people that were unable to get tickets, we'll be make TGS worthwhile to attend. Think of this event as a TGS Preview.

Thanks to rykomatsu for the retranslation.

The announcement Nomura talks about coming with ACC could possibly be something as lame as them saying FFXIII due in 2009 or 2010......

But that wouldn't be a big announcement. :p

Are they going to make this announcement in August or at the TGS in October?
Is it going to be a public or private theatre announcement?:lol :lol :lol
Btw in this translation there's no mention of FFVII so the sense is completely different. He just states that the release date of ACC will be reveled and there will be a big announcement elsewhere in the event.
My opinion is that there's no reason to be hyped about anything Square Enix until they actually deliver otherwise you'll be constantly disappointed by their stupid politics.

How does one pronounce "DKΣ3713"?

It's acronym, not a word.

The piss poor translation makes it impossible to determine what Nomura is talking about. That said, if FFXIII isn't playable at TGS I would be very surprised.

I'd be more surprised if it was.

I love them... but I love their console games too

I blame Nomura for all of this, he's probably the one that made Matsuno go mad
If this is true, then I'm going to strangle Nomura with his own belts.

Oh crap! That means FFVII PS3 remake is coming this time for real, right!?
...right?

Don't get your hopes up. I'd honestly be happy with a PSP version of Before Crisis <_<

FF7 port for DS just like Chrono Trigger:D
Nah, we need V and VI first.

Also, I'd kill someone. I'd buy it, but I'd still kill someone. And Square does not want blood on their hands. DQIX I can handle, but FFVII needs a grand next-gen port.

Thats precisely why they wont do it.

Since FF Versus XIII's team has very few people, some members of the FFXIII team have begun helping them out. For that reason, it's not ready to be presented in it's current condition.

I thinks this is the biggest piece from that interview. How the hell does square take members from the FFXIII team and put them on vs.XIII when XIII is probably still nowhere near completion!! :lol :lol

The funny thing is that in a previous interview it was the Versus Team the one helping the XIII team:lol :lol

BTW this translation doesn't look reliable to me ;)

The funny thing is that in a previous interview it was the Versus Team the one helping the XIII team:lol :lol

BTW this translation doesn't look reliable to me ;)

Which is why i'm not taking any of it seriously or believing it for now.

Here's the original kanji:
He says the CG team is busy working on ACC, and the others are helping with FFXIII, so Versus has a very small crew on it, as a result it's not in any condition to be shown yet. Pretty much the same as the previous interview it seems.

Pretty big difference but pretty much confirms what Nomura was talking about in older interviews. Also proofs that Square Enix USA is full of shit, when they said, that the work on Versus is going on flawless and translations were wrong...

It just points to SE moving huge resources over to FFXIII in an attempt to get the game out in Japan this year. At this stage, FFXIII could have a staff in excess of 300.

As long as the game gets out ASAP, I'm all for it. Just get FFXIII the hell out, then you can focus on Versus.

None expected both games to come out at the same time...

Which honestly, I would prefer. The sooner FFXIII gets done the better. >:|

This had to be done. It's been 3 years since the original announcement and nearly 2 years since the PS3 launch. For Sony this is about a literal relaunch of the PS3 in Japan - perhaps the only opportunity they have in this generation to recapture lost market share. For SE, this is about proving the massive R&D investment into the White Engine can pay off in a number of areas and provide a strong foundation for the future of the company.

Nah, it's more like, if SE don't get FF out this year they're going to sacrifice a LOT of mind share and their big budget FF games are going to go down in a blaze of bomba right along with the PS3. PS3 is approaching the threshold of complete abandonment and at that point even FF13 won't be able to sell well. They're desperate.

Isn't the PS3 "accelerating" (in terms of, well, PS3ish acceleration) worldwide?
