Just got the e-mail from Atlus USA:

"Attention, please! I am sick of RPGs with gender-confused boy heroes with their spikey hair and ginormous swords living out an absurd ultimate fantasy. Is having your village burn down all you really need to be a champion? And a scar on your face is supposed to make you... What, dark and brooding? Try uncoordinated.

"My name is Elise, and I can change things. No, seriously. When I travel, I expect things around me to go my way. If they don't, I can make them!

"In My World, My Way, I can change the landscape when it doesn't suit me, make monsters give me more money, and always take the first turn in battle. I can also make enemies go away if I don't feel like fighting, shut down their magic abilities, and even make quests solve themselves. Sure, other RPGs let you explore lands and fight monsters, but how many of them let you change the world around you?

"If those walking, talking manchild clichés can leave their farms and their tiny villages - saying tearful goodbyes to their uncles or surrogate parents - and save the universe in the course of a few hours, I'm sure a resourceful girl like me will have the world wrapped around my finger in no time."

THE WORLD REVOLVES AROUND ATLUS WITH MY WORLD, MY WAY FOR NINTENDO DS™
It’s Elise’s way or the highway in this plucky adventure

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA — NOVEMBER 13, 2008 — Atlus U.S.A., Inc., the publisher you all will love (or else), today announced the new world-crafting adventure My World, My Way for Nintendo DS™. After being turned down by her fated love, Princess Elise is determined to cast off her dress and fineries in exchange for a suit of armor and a weapon and prove that she too can lead a life of excitement. As Elise, the lands you explore are yours to transform as you see fit. If the bitter sting of rejection wasn’t enough to stop you, how can a bunch of unruly monsters? It’s your world, your way, and that’s that!

My World, My Way is scheduled for release on February 3, 2009 with an MSRP of $29.99.

About My World, My Way
Elise is a beautiful princess who has been given everything she’s ever wanted. Upon turning 15, she realizes there’s only one thing in the world she lacks – a handsome boyfriend. She sets out to remedy this by asking her father to hold a ball in her honor, to which every prince from every kingdom is invited to come and try their hand at wooing her. However, only one young man catches Elise’s eye, and, as it turns out, he is no prince, but an adventurer. Knowing that fate itself has ordained him as her true love, she confesses her desire to share in his exciting life... Only to be flat out rejected. He tells her, “If it is truly your desire is to be with an adventurer such as me, I would ask you first to do something with that long hair. Cast aside that frilly dress, and don a suit of armor. Gain some experience in battle, and when you have matured, we shall meet again. Until then, I bid you farewell.”

And so, much to the Kingdom’s shock and dismay, Elise, the clueless princess, sets out on her adventure! It’s her world, her way, and as long as she can help the weak, slay the monsters, and win enough fame, she’ll get her happily ever after!

Key Features
• Your world, your way— Alter the landscape to get your way! Different terrain options will open up different opportunities for new enemies and items, and give you power over your adventure.
• Pout your way to victory— Pouting is power, and developing your selfishness is key to getting the Pout Points that will give you options to force the world to behave.
• Not your brother’s RPG— Delight in the off-the-wall journey of a spoiled princess whose selfishness fuels her ability to successfully become an adventurer.

My World, My Way has been rated “E” for Everyone with Alcohol Reference, Mild Fantasy Violence, Mild Suggestive Themes by the ESRB.

Known in Japan as The World Revolves Around Me, which J-GAF people might recognize.

Hmm, what is this?

After watching the trailer and reading this I deduce that this is a generic RPG where you can modify many things to make the game.. easier?

It actually seems like a RPG targeted to stereotyped girls?

The original JPN title is better......and it sounds like "The World Ends With You," which makes it even funnier. That being said, this looks like a great concept, but if the website is any indication, it looks a little too childish (and easy).

Can't watch the trailer on this comp, but it sure sounds like a generic bratty saccharine ME ME ME J-style story.

::edit::
Trailer won't load, but website will. Looks like my suspicions are confirmed. :lol

I'll never write off an Atlus game outright, but as of now I'll probably be skipping this one.

...hell, even the princess has spiky hair. And the mercenary guy has...guess what....a scar on his face. If the actual game was like they described in the PR, it would be awesome. Sadly it looks like another cliched RPG with an easy twist.

So I think the question we're all asking ourselves is: how do I play this game, while still looking like a bad mofo at the same time?

Man, of course, Atlus WOULD announce this game while I'm off running errands. I'd like to think that you all have me to thank for this game coming over, since I've bugged Atlus many times about bringing it here.

I much prefer "The World Revolves Around Me" as an English name, but whatever. Here's the review Nick did for the Japanese version of the game. I haven't played it yet, but I absolutely love the idea behind the game, and it sounds awesome all around, so FUCK YEAH to Atlus for bringing this over.

My list of import DS titles that need to come out over here has thankfully once again shrunken by one. (Of course, each month like twelve new titles are added to that list, but you know.)

I don't skip too many Atlus games, but this really doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.

Read the review I linked to; I don't know how anybody could not think the game sounds like a hoot after doing so.

You could be buying a Flight-Plan RPG this week, you know...

I am curious if you might weigh in about the sort of direction Atlus has for 2009. Obviously you can't announce specific titles, but in general where are you guys going in terms of localizing?

I just ask because obviously over the last few years the landscape has changed a little bit. Banpresto doesn't exist anymore. AQI has XSeed. Marvelous is partnered with XSeed. Nippon Ichi has NISA. I assume Sting and Flight Plan are both on board for future collaboration with Atlus USA. Agetec still seems to be Irem's first choice in general.

Obviously you guys are always willing to explore new partnerships. Any companies in particular that you haven't worked with before but are talking to now?

I didn't think this one was going to get localized when it was released in Japan some time ago. While not knowing much about the game (will read the review Shidoshi posted above later), I've always looked at it with curiosity. Nice surprise.

i'm very excited to play this~ I was so close to importing, but heard from a buddy at tinycartridge that there was a good possibility for a localization~

Wondering if there are VOs, though~

I don't like the way the character walks and the speed.. it feels weird. I don't know why it bothers me a bit, I'm not usually too picky.

EDIT: I'll seriously consider buying though.

Hats off to whomever designed the website. I laughed very hard at the "Pout Button" option.
It's the classic Atlus strategy to match ingenious marketing to their shittier games. You'd think their fanbase would be too hardcore to fall for it but....

So, have you played this game, and thus know that it's shitty?

I said "shittier". As long as Atlus has published as least 2 games one is bound to be "shittier" than the other ;)

I'm not much of an RPG person, but I totally dug the concept of this one when I first read about the Japanese version. So I'll probably have a copy up for sale here pretty soon after I buy it and realize that I'm really not much of an RPG person.

Oh, and the writing in the announcement is hilarious and adorable.
