What is Peggle? The art looks so good but I'd like a little color on the gameplay.
Hey no problem man. Peggle is what all the casual but secretly hardcore gamers are playing. It is what keeps the refrigerators at Popcap well stocked with drugs. It is pachinko plus bust-a-move plus beethoven.
For the uninitiated, Peggle can be described as a cross between pachinko and pinball. Players are presented with a field of blue and orange pegs, and the orange need to be cleared in order to pass a level. You fire tiny balls from the top of the screen and watch them bounce their way to the bottom, clearing any pegs they come into contact with on their way. The challenge is that, once you've fired, things are pretty much out of your hands and physics will take its course. You also have a limited amount of shots to work with.
I dunno, I don't really trust IGN's words, do you have a trailer you could show me?
But of course: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdRJcLF0Fjo
Special GameBoy Content: Game includes the levels from the original Peggle, the new Peggle Nights, and new levels developed by Trippy Casual Gaming Gods Q Entertainment for a whoptacular 125 levels. Game also includes duel mode. I am being serious here that is an amazing amount of content. Most of us hardcore gamers put in 40+ hours into just the original Peggle.
Art Style: Simply the best going in the gaming industry today, and possibly the larger art community as well when it's all said and done.
IGN Review
http://ds.ign.com/articles/956/956344p1.html8.0 Presentation
The original Peggle, the Nights expansion, plus 15 bonus levels. Lots of content here. The interface works well -- for the most part.
7.5 Graphics
Peggle doesn't require a lot visually, but Dual Shot is easy on the eyes.
8.0 Sound
The "plink" of balls on pegs and your "Ode to Joy" reward for completing a level will be forever ingrained in your mind.
9.0 Gameplay
So simple, and so addictive. Like Bejewelled, PopCap really hit this one out of the park.
8.5 Lasting Appeal
Peggle will claim hours and hours of your life. The competitive Duel mode is a nice touch, too.
8.6 (probably an average of the above, but I don't have my calculator on me and the one's on the Internet suck)
Great OVERALL
And now some amazing Peggle shots (this is what the game is all about):
