From "Visionary" writer Alan Moore and "Visionary" artist Dave Gibbons (with "Visionary" colorist John Higgins) comes a comic book that forever changed the way people read. Dubbed a "Graphic Novel" for the orgasmic sensations that it provided to the readers, Watchmen has received critical acclaim both in the comics and mainstream press, and is regarded as a seminal text of the comic book medium. Set in alternate 1985, costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society. When one of his former crimefighter is murdered, the "I'm not locked up in here with you" vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion (and a MOTHERFUCKING AMERICAN NAKED GOD), Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over Zack Snyder... but who watches the Watchmen?

I'm looking forward to the movie but I'm still taking most of the early reviews with a grain of salt, though.

Getting a lot of angry looks from people I recommend the graphic novel to.

"The trailer looks so sweet! But this is just old men blabbing page after page after page".

Ill definitely be seeing this, buts its not ZOMG OFF THE CHARTS hype for me, since Ive never read the GN, and Im not a huge Snyder fan. With that said, Im still rather looking forward to it lots.

I should probably buy IMAX tickets now. Not sure if I want to go with the huge crowd at midnight or the empty, comfortable 12:30 PM showing on that friday....

Going out with a bunch of my friends who have read the graphic novel. I have low-expectations, but the trailer looks awesome and the reviews seem largely positive. So as of now I'm cautiously optimistic.

You should read the novel, after watching the trailer I was like let me check out the source material and I was blown away, but hey your choice.

Anyway Im not that excited actually,Im expecting the worst so if it turns out bad I wont be disappointed etc. etc.

The clips were pretty good, but the one with the first silk spectre sucked for the bad acting, which I hope isnt the case for the whole film.

most of the reviews state that she's the weakest actor in the film and line-reads horribly.

I was slightly interested until I saw some clips. I'm still giving it a fair chance though, I didn't like 300 but I don't tend to hold a director's past work on different projects.

But she's hot and apparently is nude at one point, so it's acceptable for me. :D

I'll watch it. The positive reception from the press so far reassures me I won't regret the price of a ticket and a few hours of my time. I'm not expecting anything revelatory.

I'll see it, but does anyone think that superhero movies are still too fresh for a movie based on a comic book that serves as dystopian metacommentary on the superhero genre?

So many of the lovers of the GN are already condemning the movie without actually seeing it, and I dont want to taint myself that way with preconceptions of how an adaptation should be. With that said, I think I will read it eventually, but after the movie.

It was obvious in the clip, that makes me dread seeing a certain scene from the comic in the film.

Don't read it its only a week away, if the movie makes you want to read it then read it after. But when you are this close to movie release it is best just to wait at this point to avoid "tainting" your movie viewing. Although you should read it, its fantastic but at this point its best to wait. Viewing movies unspoiled is always more enjoyable.

Thats a good reason, just for the record Im not one of those condemning the movie,I hope it turns out well yet Im not sure it will be of any quality.

Well we will know come March 6th.

I don't think Watchmen's metacommentary will have any effect on audiences. Most superhero movies have already explored those themes of "what if superheroes existed in our world?" Spider-Man, X-Men, Nolan's Batman all grounded this otherwise silly subject in a very realistic setting that explored what made these heroes tick, which is why they resonated so much with viewers and why they were so successful. So I don't think Watchmen will bring anything new to the table in that sense.

I think what would really set Watchmen apart from other movies is the moral ambiguity of its characters, which most superhero movies don't have. At the end of the day, Spider-Man and Batman are good guys while Doc Ock and the Joker are bad guys. That's not really the case with Watchmen.

Surprised to see it so high. I'm still cautiously optimistic. Zack Snyder has yet to make a film that lived up to the hype in my opinion and the fact that it's based on a graphic novel i greatly enjoyed just makes keep this in mind.

Probably. Though the worst case I could think of is that people will conclude that superheroes are hokey and not pay attention to them anymore. Films that WB/DC or Marvel would want to make like a new, non-gritty, non-angsty Superman wouldn't be as bankable.

Maybe I'm thinking too hard that this might end superhero movies. :lol

The blood splatter looks better, too.

RT score off to a good start... Based on early reviews, I know I'll probably end up liking it with some minor reservations. I'm giving Snyder a break.

But I'm more interested in how the uninitiated are going to react to the material. I don't think the general populous quite knows what they're getting into. That could be a very good or bad thing though.

It was exactly the same with me. Hype considerably lowered as a result of those clips. But, really guys, don't mind the clips and just go see the movie for what it is. An incredible transfer of Watchmen from paper to screen. And forget about 300. Yes, there's quite a bit of slow-mo during the Nite Owl / Laurie fight scenes, which kind of makes the two of them look a bit more 'superhuman' (blows that send people flying to the walls, broken bones, blood ...) than they should be in relation to the comic, but that's pretty much all.

The ending though, now that really is open to discussion. :)

As a huge Alan Moore geek I was very suss on this film and now, after reading initial reviews, I'm nearly pissing down my leg with excitement.

Day one for me probably. I'm not expecting greatness or to be blown away, but it'll probably be entertaining and I like the graphic novel. Also, I haven't been to a movie theater in a while, nothing but crap seems to have been showing the last few weeks.
