Absolutely pathetic part deux
Rules are simple, out of the dueling people, you pick whatever person has the best-line-up of records. Simple? Yes, yes it is. You can edit your posts or whatever. It will then end at midnight Sunday morning and votes will be tallied up and then the 2nd round will begin. Everyone in the Draft will be hyping up their picks with links to their records and all that good stuff. Also, anyone can vote so you should vote. Easily enough? Yes. For people in the Draft, I will be giving away PRIZES. Ok, it isn't much but here we go:

3RD PLACE - A pack of American Spirits Organics. This is what I smoke and I plan on getting a carton when I get paid on the 3rd. Why cigarettes? Because you smoke them when you are listening to jazz music. If you don't smoke, I will just keep them because I would smoke them anyways. If you are under 18, don't tell your parents. You will also get a personalized MSPaint drawing and a copy of an Al-Qaeda split noise cassette with Rad Skelton.
2ND PLACE - You get a modern art piece made by myself that I made but decided not to put it in any show. You will also get a CocoRosie shirt sized medium.
1ST PLACE - You get a much bigger modern art piece made by myself which was featured in a showing in Philadelphia. You will also get a personalized mix tape from myself.

Now for everyone else, here is the 1st Round (I based this off when people joined the thread) of 14 bouts:

I'm confused, can I see a sample ballot? Am I just voting for the Round 1 albums for each pairing?

I think you just vote for a person. As in, overall who has the best albums.

Oh no, right now, you are voting for each group like you would go:
1. Nihilism
2. Karma

so on and so forth.

The next round will be the winners of all those.

So... You're voting only for the round 1 album of each group? If not, why are the albums given rounds? You only make in confusing if you use rounds for albums and rounds for the fights.

Alright, I made some edits so hopefully it is a little bit more clear now. Sorry Aselith, to be part of the Tournament is closed for these teams were picked from the Music Draft thread. Vox-Pop was talking about starting a movie draft thread here in a bit if you are interested in participating in that one.

All right, cool. I figured it was but thought I'd ask. I'll catch the next one.

Is this a good time to pimp our teams?

Ok, well team Cyan has got a pretty nice variety of genres:

Classic Rock: Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
Pop: Michael Jackson - Thriller
Psychedelic: The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced?
Jazz: Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
Metal: Metallica - Black Album
Rap: Public Enemy - Nation of Millions...
Punk: Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks...
Grunge: Alice In Chains - Jar of Flies
Electronic: The Prodigy - Fat of the Land
Guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo: Flight of the Conchords - Flight of the Conchords

Also, it covers every decade from the 60s on. So overall, a lot of variety.

Also, high quality stuff! A ground-breaking jazz album, the highest selling pop album of all time, one of the best rap albums ever, a hugely influential punk album, classic Hendrix and Dylan, and much, much more!

Alright, I think using the name Bouts maybe makes the wording better.

Alright! Time to pimp my round 1 album:
Black Sabbath - Master of Realitiy- Those are samples of every song on it! Make sure you listen to the last one (that's my favourite). Groundbreaking heavy metal from 1971!
black_sabbath___master_of_reality.jpg_320_320_0_9223372036854775000_0_1_0.jpg

Random trivia: the album name comes from "master tapes". According to Geezer Butler the songs dealt with reality. Combine those and you get it ;)

I think people are confused because the round each album was picked in is still listed. And since "Round One" is in the thread title, people are thinking there's some connection.

Gotta remind myself to check back here and see how well the fighters sell their bouts. There are a few bouts where I can see certain people winning by a landslide but it should still be interesting.

It just started dude, give it a chance. Prizes! Entertainment! Fast Women!

You shouldn't make promises about everyone hyping their picks. I let them speak for themselves.
Laziness is the core of me.

Did you setup a bracket that I don't know about, or did you settle on something else?

I just put it down as when people joined the music draft from the first thread and from the Drafting thread. Like since Teepo was last and DieN were 2nd to last, they went against each other.

The Crimson Kid

what are you waiting for
Here's my rationale for the albums I picked. First off, since we were voting for full albums, I wanted to make sure that every pick of mine worked as an album and not just as a collection of songs. In other words, the album had to be greater than the sum of its parts. Because of this, my albums ended up a bit more on the epic or progressive side than the picks of my contestants, regardless of genre. I didn't try to pick obscure albums, so many of the artists may be more familiar to you. I'll go pick by pick and explain why I chose these albums a little later.

Round One: Nas - Illmatic
Round Two: Soundgarden - Superunknown
Round Three: Rush - Moving Pictures
Round Four: Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Round Five: Aphex Twin - Richard D. James Album
Round Six: Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatorium
Round Seven: Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime
Round Eight: Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention - Over-Nite Sensation
Round Nine: Between the Buried and Me - Colors
Round Ten: The Dismemberment Plan - Change

Vote for me in Bout 5!

(to AlternativeUlster: I fixed the spelling mistakes in your list of my picks. Please replace your listing in the OP with the one in this post to fix the spelling errors. I will delete this aside after you do. Thanks!)

here are my votes and also my reasonings because i can't talk about music without getting excessively verbose

1 - AlternativeUlster
wow. screw you guys, this is tough already. AU's picks in the first four rounds are a big part of my personal (musical) history. Discovery was the first album i ever bought, even. but he basically gets an instawin for picking This Heat's Deceit. Psychocandy is also delicious. Nihilism has the best Bob Dylan album and the best Beatles album but I'm not a big fan of either anymore so more importantly he has CAN and GZA. Perfect from Now on > Keep It like a Secret, but whatever both are brilliant.

2 - Karma Kramer
okay, i really hate that M83 album. BioHazard gets minus a hundred thousand points for including that one. Led Zep IV is a classic i pretty much know by heart, also very much like straight outta compton. Karma Kramer's list i like a bit more even tho i have always found boards of canada excruciatingly boring and some others i also do not care for at all. but the same applies to biohazard's list. KK wins because of Endtroducing and picking the best Flaming Lips album.

3 - Vox-Pop
this was an easy one as NameGenerated's taste is very different from mine and TBH i'd rather get my eardrums turned inside out than ever listen to dream threater. Vox-Pop has Taking Tiger Mountain which is one of my all time favs, The Idiot which i've always preferred over lust for life and the VU self-titled and Pink Moon (things behind the sun is one of the most gorgeous songs ever)

4 - hXc_thugg
I do not like Muse and Oasis and Moby at all and the new Royksopp album was the cause of much (well, some) frustration for me so I can't in good conscience vote for Wes. Like the Arcade Fire tho and man Royksopp used to make better albums:p. hXc has Closer and Hunky Dory which is my fav Bowie album (Quicksand, Bewlay Brothers <3). Modest Mouse's best album, too.

5 - The Crimson Kid
This was a tough one. Gotta give Owen credit for choosing 2000-era 'indie-mainstream' albums i can actually tolerate: alligator (the national's finest) and queen mary and demon days as well are cool albums. but crimson kid has fucking ZAPPA (i love camarillo brillo from that album) and double nickels on the dime holy shit immortal album.

6 - Eric WK
difficult choice as i hate to go against WL/WH with its crushing closing song which is one of the coolest pieces of music ever imo, not even that waldo jeffers story (skip this every time) can ruin that album. BUT i have a weak spot for Rumours that is bigger than myself. was doubting for a moment but then i listened to Oh Daddy and knew what had to be done. Marquee Moon, Queen is Dead and Pink Flag which i prefer over Chairs Missing just sealed the deal.

7 - n0b
have to forsake BEE THOUSAND which is one of my favourites, as well as remain in light which has the beautiful Listening Wind, in order to vote for n0b, but he deserves it. Amon Duul II, Davis, Neu! and Beefheart... the man's got class. Zen Arcade and Spiderland also rock.

8 - Karakand
Cosmic Bus was pretty much the only one to REALLY mix it up, resulting in my not having heard half his list. I like Wilco even tho i think YHF is by far their best (v unoriginal i know) and i adore Leonard Cohen. Never been able to appreciate Talk Talk. Karakand is the only one with Mingus so I'm obliged to vote for him. Enter the Wu Tang is also a personal favourite and London Calling was THE record for me for about a year. White Album has way too much shitty filler.

9 - Vatstep
I only had a very brief love affair with minor threat before focusing my attention entirely on Fugazi. Don't really like Dismemberment Plan or Pulp. Do like Nina Simone but haven't heard the album in question. Vatstep's list on the other hand has Love Supreme which is godly, and Songs about Fucking which is brutal, and Entertainment! which is somewhere in between.

10 - Mason
Finally, some Hendrix. Guess I'll just vote for- oh bloody hell. this one is making it very hard for me. supplementing the hendrix and making matters worse there is Bitches' Brew, Highway 61 and Thriller on the one side, and Closing Time and Come on Pilgrim on the other. But what convinced me to decide was the Violent Femmes self-titled, which is amazing, and also the Sex Pistols, who suck dick.

11 - What's going on here? Can I abstain?

12 - Flynn
Galaxy 500. Fuck yeah. Everyone always goes for On Fire but I actually prefer Today but oh well you can't have everything. Still, vote goes to Flynn for Maggot Brain, Raw Power, Paranoid (hell yeah, my first metal album) and Trans-Europa Express. Just reading that title makes me feel like humming the melody of the TEE/Metal on Metal/Planet Rock.

13 - Chamber
tough one again. from Chamber's selection i really like Relationship of Command and In the Court of the Crimson King (so, so good) and floyd and radiohead and Dead Cities (Yes! a good M83 album!). In the other corner from tekumseh, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot which evokes much melancholy in me and Who's Next which is great but I don't listen to the Who much anymore tho i still have a soft spot for them. Chamber wins because the song Epitaph alone is good enough to defeat entire albums by itself.

14 - teepo
MORE SABBATH! Even tho Paranoid will always be my fav of theirs, MOR is very good too. And I'm a sucker for Pantera. CFH and Vulgar Display... were my ultimate 'stomp around the room like a madman' albums for some time. Tommy is awesome, i saw the musical once. And funnily enough I never could stand post-Ozzy Sabbath, but Ozzy's albums with Rhoads i like quite a lot. DieNGamer's taste seems to be quite different from mine but I can still get behind the bulk of his picks. Teepo has picked Red Medicine, meaning he wins. Best Fugazi album and one of the best of the 90s and of all time. Sister is also awesome and Dino Jr and Jesus Lizard and Boredoms also cool bands. But RED MEDICINE, man!

i just spent like 20 mins typing this up. waste of time but you guys picked some excellent albums.

Pretty sure it's illegal to ship cigarettes over state lines. The UPS driver at work said so, I think.

doors kinda suck tho
I used to feel the same way about the doors, but after a recent revisit the album seemed perfect and my opinion has yet to go back (about the album, I still wouldn't call myself a fan of the band).

Also, what are the voting rules for participants? Are we allowed to vote on bouts that we aren't in, none of them or all of them?
