Alright kids, here we go again.

This will be our second summer swap. Most, if not all, of the chocolate survived the hot temperatures the first time around. Let's hope for the same this time! If any of you guys have tips for shipping chocolates in hot weather, be sure to share them with us!

how_to_participate.jpg

If you would like to participate, please include the following in your reply post by the registration deadline listed above:

  • Your Location (Format: State, Country)
  • Tips on what types of candy you would enjoy the most. (Chewy/Hard, Chocolate/Fruity)
  • If you have participated in a previous swap, please include the country or countries you swapped with and the user(s) (Case Sensitive Please)!. This will make things a little easier for me when I begin the matching process.

Once you do this, you will be entered in a pool. I will match you with someone who is from a different country. The majority of GAF users seem to be from the USA, so people outside of the US will probably be matched with a user from the US just so I can make sure everyone gets a different country. If you live outside of the US and absolutely do NOT want to be matched with a US swapper, then let me know and I can see what I can do. However, I cannot make any promises.

I will begin matching users on Saturday July 25th, 2009. So, it's very important that you register by 11:59am EST on July 24th, 2009! When you have been matched, I will send both users a PM with all the information you need. You can then further discuss the details of the swap with your swap partner such as a price limit, types of candy, and tracking number (if available). Remember, YOU must decide on a price range/weight limit if you wish to have one.

Once that has been done, you must purchase and ship your candy by the deadline listed above. If you need to extend the deadline you must discuss it with your partner and you BOTH must agree on a new deadline.

BE SURE TO SAVE YOUR SHIPPING RECEIPT, AND LET YOUR PARTNER KNOW WHEN THEIR PACKAGE HAS BEEN SHIPPED. IF YOUR PACKAGE NEVER MAKES IT TO ITS DESTINATION, AND YOU DO NOT HAVE A RECEIPT YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY FUTURE SWAPS.

We want to avoid any hard feelings toward one another if a package ends up missing. So, in your defense, you should have your shipping receipt handy. If you'd like, you can do what I do and post a photo/scan of the receipt with your post announcing the package has shipped. Plus, everyone loves to check out photos so It just adds to the excitement of knowing someone has a package headed their way!

After your package has been shipped, please check your PM inbox daily and keep in touch with your partner! This is KEY to a successful swap!

Finally, if anyone has any problems or suggestions, don't hesitate to PM me!

other_information.jpg

The candy/snacks should be packaged properly. Individually wrapped or still sealed from the purchase.

Candy needs to be legitimate. Homemade candy is fine as long as it is like a specialty candy from a small business and is packaged properly.

Don't make homemade candy and put it in a ziploc bag and send it. The purpose of this swap is to get your hands on goodies that are rare or not found in your location.

Don't forget to get a shipping receipt! ASK for a shipping receipt if they do not provide you with one at your shipping office.

Soda & other snacks are absolutely fine, but they can increase the weight which will increase the shipping amount. However, some countries may have rules or laws against shipping liquids or other items. Be sure to check online and do a bit of research!

Feel free to include souvenir-like items in your packages, as long as they don't break any customs laws! Post cards are a great addition to your packages!

*Double Swapper
** USA-to-USA

I will be keeping this thread updated with a list of the registered users. If it has been a few days and your name doesn't show up on the above list PM me to make sure I got your registration!

I'm in!

location: Munich, Germany
ships: world wide
prefers: please no licorice, no foamy stuff (hard or soft). That's it, the rest is open to you.
Some peanut butter M&Ms would be nice.

already swapped:
- adg1034, USA
- the man himself, tmaynard, USA
- crowphoenix, USA

I'd like to get in on this if possible. I'm in the US.

eta: I should probably do the info correctly.
eta later: I'm just gonna keep editing this post. (and a third time!)

Location: Little Rock, AR, USA
Preference: I'l go ahead and say chocolate mostly.
Never did a swap before; will happily trade with anyone, regardless of location, just for the fun of it.

I went ahead and added a bit to the registration information.

If you have participated in a previous swap, please list the countries you swapped with! It will make things a lot easier for me when I'm matching everyone up. I'm going to do my best to make sure everyone swaps with a different country from the ones they've previously swapped with, if at all possible.

OK Add me to the list! This is my first time and I'd like to try it out

Location: California (LA area), USA

I enjoy any type of candy unless its extremely sour, spicy, or super chewy

First time swapping for me!

So since I'm Asian and I live in an area with lots of Asian people would it be alright for me to send Asian candies since I'm not too familiar with "rare" American candy snacks in my area.

First time swapper, miss the registration every time.

Location: Wisconsin, USA
Candy: Love to try anything not available in the states, except licorice.

Just got my tax returns so I am ready to go candy shopping. :D

I'm in! second timer here :D

Location: San Jose, Costa Rica.
Will ship to: wherever, just be patient because shipping from CR takes time.

I don't really have any particular tastes, last time I participated I got a little of everything and that was great :D

Also, weird... I already participated in a Candy Swap, but I can't see myself in any of the lists. I had traded with TheRipDizz, from USA, and that went pretty well. I guess if I have to be matched with someone from the US again it'd be fine, but I'd love some other country as well (even better if I can send some USA stuff since it's easy to find here... there aren't that many "costa rican" candy exlusives :P).

Oh, I'm in. So in.

Location: Oregon, United States

Candy preference: Chewy/fruity/gummy with a mix of milk and dark chocolate (for my wife/kids). 70/30 split would be ideal!

Previous Swap Experience: Australia and New Zealand. Which were good but VERY similar (and even some of the same candy). I would prefer a European country this time around, if possible.

I'd love to get in on this...what's the approximate cost of buying candy + shipping combined? (I'm assuming there will be a difference between domestic and international). I'm pretty poor at the moment, so I might have to skip this one. = (

Depends where you ship to and what you send. :p

I spent about $25-$30 on candy last time, and about $50 on shipping. Though my wife has since pointed out that I should have used a flat-rate box and saved $20 or so.

The amount of candy swapped is negotiated with your partner so you don't send too much or too little. You could probably join conditionally, noting that you could only afford to send a few small packages of candy, and see if anyone is in the same situation to be matched up with.

I was just thinking about the candy swap today and lamenting that I'd have to wait to participate. Huzzah!

Location: USA
Previous Swaps: UK (Gav), AUS (VOOK)
Candy: I love anything local and unique, don't really want anything that can be had in the states, I don't really like sour candy. But, it's all good, I like the sending as much as the receiving.

I was lucky and spent very little last time, around $50 (candy+shipping), and the amount of candy was about the same as what I got back; I really can't afford to send a huge package, but you can always negotiate once you have a partner :)

I want in! I live in the NE where theres some great awesome unique candy!

- Your Location (Ohio, United States): NH, US
- I enjoy all kinds of candy! :D

I'd like to get in on this.

Location: Connecticut, USA

Preference: Anything fruity/sour or chocolate. I'm not picky :D

Willing to trade with anyone, anywhere, etc.

Thanks for the tip, I'll use this next time if I can.

I don't know if I'm allowed since I'm new, but I have seen these threads before, and its because of this awesome community interaction that I wanted to be part of GAF. So I would love to join in if I could....

Location: Kentucky, United States

Preference: I'll Share the bounty with the wife and kid, so no real preferences here I suppose, just no candy coated insects or the like... :D Would really love to try some crazy Japanese fruity candies, or some really good foreign chocolates of any kind.

Yep, you're fine. If you can post, then you are allowed to participate! I'm glad to see some new people in this one.

Thanks for participating. I am completely fine with this, but this would probably be better to discuss with your partner when you are matched up! I know some people would love a mix of American and Asian goodies, but some might not. If you are having trouble recognizing what are "rare" candies in the US, feel free to ask users in the thread! I'm sure they'd be glad to help!

---

I'm glad to see new faces and it's great to see people returning. If any new users have any other questions, feel free to share them in the thread or check out the old threads which are linked in the OP. I'm going to be incredibly busy, but I will be checking the thread as much as possible to help out. I'm sure the returning users will be glad to help answer any questions that you have.

Also, I've logged all the users up to this point, I'll be updating the registered user list in the OP tomorrow.

I'm in!

Location: Washington, USA (the state)
Candy Prefs: Like peanut butter and peanut candies if possible, like fruity and exotic stuff as well. Would like a new area, had japan and spain, maybe sweden or norway, one of those countries?

Yes about time! Definitely doing this!

Location: Massachusetts, USA
Preference: Anything Chocolate or Gummy
Ship: Worldwide

I definitely like the limited Japanese Kit-Kats/Doritos/Pepsi. Anything like that would be a huge huge plus! I would love an international partner if possible!

I will sign up again. Seriously though, if I get stuck with someone who doesn't end up participating again, I will be seriously pissed. I have been in the last 2 fucking swaps and both times my partner has just flaked out.

edit: I am in Kansas, USA. I prefer any sort of candy that doesn't involve nuts or coconut, and is not black licorice. Obviously I have participated in the swaps before with terrible luck.

yes yes YESSSSS!!!!

CANDY SWAP IS THE BESTEST THING IN THE WORLD

- I live in Wellington, New Zealand
- If I trade with somebody from the States, so #1 request always is: NUTTER BUTTERS I love them. Other than that anything fruity is good hard or gummy. I love haribo bears and cola bottles and can't be bought here ;-; Otherwise, I'm happy to talk to whoever I'm swapping with :)
- Both times, I traded with the US

I ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO SHIP SOMETHING TO tmaynard AS A WAY TO THANK HIM FOR ALL THE HASSLE OF ORGANIZING THIS.

I did ship some candy for him last time :D

I'm down for this! I only like Dark Chocolate, anything with Fruit or Nuts or filling is 100% good for me! :)

I live in California. Let me know when I'm paired :)

PS - I'M ALLERGIC TO DAIRY! Butter is ok tho

Location: Berkshire, UK
Ship: Wherever
Preference: Peanut Butter Candy. Not enough of it here!

I had great fun in the last swap with Biggyfries (the generous man he is) and I'm looking forward to this time around!

I'M IN!
(Be nice swap partner, i never got anything sent back to me last time :lol)

Location: Leeds, UK
I like pretty much everything. Chocolate and sour stuff especially. But anything goes really!
Done 2 swaps before. Both with people in the US.
1st Swap was with adamsappel and he was great.
2nd Swap was with Drkirby, and i got no candy and no replies to PM's.

If my girlfriend wanted to do this too, but shes not a member, could we do a double swap?

Edit: Im away on the weekend of the 24th, but will be about on the Monday, so my swap partner should know im not ignoring them, im just not able to get to a computer for a few days!

I agree.

I was also going to add that I wouldn't mind a kiwi or ozzie to trade with. Ultimately anyone is fine, even another japanese trade, though new people please, nothing bad just figured they would want new people too.

Hopefully we don't have any duds this time.

Me me me I want in again hell yeah
Also My GirlFriend wants in (not a member) but I can double swap if thats ok

Location: Ireland
Candy: same as last time NO NUTS, peanut or anything with nut in it, love soars and soft jellies
Last swap: was with tmaynard (great man and good candy) pic below (be nice to get different candy from what tmaynard sent me, as good as it was be nice to try new stuff)

and again tmaynard thanks for doing this again, hope that Finnegan is doing well

What I got last time

I'm very, very sorry. I wish there was more I could do, but trust that I am trying to make things as secure as possible. Unfortunately, there are people out there that would just like to rip others off. Since you have had so much trouble I will be doing my best to match you with a veteran swapper that will for sure ship you a package.

Also, please PM me the usernames of the bad swappers via PM. I have a lot of records, but it would be much easier if you could send me their usernames via PM. (I'm switching up the system to match people this time.)

Yello. You forgot my third video! (In stunning HD!)

Now, I'm from Spain and my last candy swaps were with amerikaners. I'm a sugar free gum fetishist, but last November, chapel sent me a bunch of strange homemade huckleberry goodies that were pretty kickass.
Anyway, having tasted the left side of the map, maybe trying the right one will be nice? (That is, japanese candy).

Wow, how could I forget?! It's now in the OP, and I suggest that everyone check his videos out!

I hope we'll be seeing another one this time around. :D

I'd like to suggest that we should upgrade candies to all snack foods.

Absolutely, it's a great idea. I actually put this in the other information portion of the OP. All sodas and other snacks are perfectly okay, but do remember sodas add a lot of weight to a package!

J. M. Romeo said:

This is a great idea. I will definitely be including this in my PM instructions to everyone. If anyone else has suggestions, please share them!

---

Also, There have been quite a few of you that have already registered but if you don't mind please edit your registration post to include the users you swapped with as well as the countries! I've edited the OP to include this info as well. You only have to worry about this if you have swapped before! If you are a first timer, then you can disregard this message.

I've basically done the matching for the swaps differently each time. I'm trying to organize something much more efficient this time, which requires a lot more information to accurately match everyone up! Plus, I know it's not fun to be matched with the same country everytime, so I'm going to do my best to avoid it! Unfortunately, there are some things that just cannot be avoided due to the majority of users being from the US.

If you have participated before, and you got stood up and didn't receive any candy in return, PLEASE PM ME THEIR USERNAME! I know I've asked this of a few of you several times, but at this point it would be much easier to check my PM's than to go through the pages of hand typed records that I have. I am in the process of creating a web application to handle the matching in a much more efficient way. So, if you could, please PM me their usernames again!

Ok, I'm in for the first time!

Location: Linz, Austria
Preferred Candy: You can send me anything you like. I'd appreciate some foreign snacks or beverages too, if that's possible. :)

Have no problem whatsoever swapping with the US/Japan.

woo!

Woohoo first post and already this. My day is made :D

- Netherlands, Europe
- I like to be suprised, though nothing contaning peanuts and other kinds of nuts.
If possible a partner from the Northern/Southern America :)
- First time

And, Excuse the stupidity. :lol

You've probably got enough to do already with organising this glorious traditon once again, so i thought i'd point it out as unobtrusively as possible :D

You're very welcome!

I've had a really rough time recently and just got moved into a new place because I got flooded out of my last one. So, unfortunately, Finnegan is still packed in a box just waiting to get out. Which reminds me, I really need to get some unpacking done this weekend.

He'll probably be showing his face again in my pictures/video this time around! :D

:lol

I need all the help I can get, so if you notice anything else that is broken or messed up, be sure to let me know!

Let me clear up my previous statement. I didn't get screwed as I never actually swapped, the person I was matched up with just didn't respond to PM's and such and the swap never happened. I just had to sit here and watch everyone's glorious candy videos and be envious.

Ahh, I remember now. Well, no worries. I'll do my best to get you matched up with a veteran this time so you can actually join in this time. :D
