Braid creator Jonathan Blow has begun teasing his name game, The Witness, a new website for which says it will be released on multiple platforms - "whatever makes sense in late 2011, when the game will hopefully be finished".

In a post on his blog a little while ago pointing to the teaser site, Blow said The Witness is "very visual" and that he would start demonstrating as much once the group making it is ready.

The teaser site describes The Witness as "an exploration-puzzle game on an uninhabited island", and on its first page displays the following text:

"Something amorphous and consummate existed before Heaven and Earth. Solitude! Vast! Standing alone, unaltering. Going everywhere, yet unthreatened. It can be considered the Mother of the World. I don't know its name, so I designate it, 'Tao'. Compelled to consider it, name it 'the Great'."

Meanwhile, Hothead has confirmed that it is converting Blow's last game, Braid, to PS3, although Blow told Eurogamer he is not involved.

2011 seems kinda soon. Didn't Braid take like forever to make?

Something about the title "The Witness" makes me think of like Schrodingers cat or some shit.
Like, when you observe something you might be changing it.

i came in here hoping this game would be about some rad detective game where you track down clues and chase witnesses and interrogate them bitches. And then solve a horrible mystery!

But it's gaming so of course it's about some ageless Deity of everlasting power that is behind the mysterious events on this "uninhabited" island. Ah well...they said it's a visual game so I hope it looks hot. Braid had that going for it.

(also maybe the deity will be some SYMBOL representing BUSH ERA POLITICS, and you have to read long boring text vomit to eventually grasp this fact)

Late 2011 is way too far away to get hyped for.
I think this was my favorite part:

They're not even sure what generation of consoles it will be on. :lol

Very visual?

That means, like, that the game will contain none of the bad writing, right?

If so, I'm anticipating this highly. Maybe he could eschew the narrative cliches as well.

Blow really should think about hiring a writer...

(still, if the game is half as good as Braid, I'm not complaining.)

Braid for me is game of this gen, one of the best games of all time and a game that defines everything I love about gaming, so yeah, day uno......

I'm tempted to just sit back and see
how many posters call Lao Tzu a pretentious, talentless blowhard

I hope it doesn't have some pretentious that leaves me needing the help of the internet to understand. After struggling for so long to complete Braid I felt completely let down by the narrative conclusion.

I wanted the same thing. A bit disappointed.
