Order of the Sinking Star - Johnathan Blow New Game

I'm in day 1. I still think the Witness is the best puzzle game ever designed. If this can come anywhere near it in terms of every puzzle having a new concept / idea or that sense of epiphany when you realize things you "knew" were actually untrue, I'm sure I'll love it.

I just hope it isn't being rushed because the braid anniversary edition sold poorly.

Wishlisted. I've loved all his games.

Is there no world to stroll around in this time? Or is the traversal of the world about walking through puzzle rooms?

It seems like the game is a giant Sokoban style map in terms of movement. With that said I would assume there will be either shortcuts or warp points to help with navigation, like looping back around after a puzzle and pushing a bolder into place to create permanent shortcuts.

I like the witness, never played braid. I get the feeling he is being a bit too cute with some of his approaches to games and he likes to make the player feel a bit stupid. They're a niche type of game, I'm glad they exist but also it's not why I play games. For example "portal" is the perfect level of difficulty for me, it makes you think about physics and the possibilities for each puzzle, you eventually work it out.

The witness some of the puzzles are so obtuse that I bet only about 10% of the players actually finish the game.

According to him this next game has 1000+ puzzles, but they are not too difficult, just fun.

I'm curious. I think The Witness was brilliant, so I'm looking forward to this.

I kind of felt the opposite with The Witness - I've never played a game that made me feel so smart. Using simple puzzles to teach the player how to solve harder puzzles seems obvious, but I can't think of any other game that does it this way. There are no cheap tricks, just lots of eureka moments.

Braid is great too. The bit where you have to wait hours for an extremely slow moving object was perhaps out of step with the rest of it, but I don't think you could describe anything in either game as obtuse.

So is this programmed in Jai? Has he finally finished re-inventing the wheel?

Just to clarify I think this guy is very clever and as someone who wants and is in the process of developing their own solo indie game….. one day hopefully, this guy is a true inspiration along with Billy basso

I'll never be on the level with these people so I'm not shitting on them and didn't mean to come across that way.

I didn't think you were shitting on them - these games definitely aren't for everyone. I remember trying to get my mother and my sister interested in The Witness, as they both enjoy newspaper puzzles, but it was a total non-starter. The fact that it has FPS-style controls meant they couldn't even find the puzzles because they were walking in circles, staring at the floor or the sky.

My impression is that J Blow's aim is to raise the player to a higher level of understanding, rather than to prove how much smarter he is.

Yea, people called him pretentious because he was trying to lecture the player into something. Maybe that's not uncalled for.

Good thing is: I'm too dumb to notice these things, so to me it's just like playing a fun game with some odd dialogue in there.

The 3D environment art looks brilliant but unfortunately I can't say the same about the 3D characters and their clumsy animation. The character concept used for the video thumbnail's nice.

Really strange this was just announced out of the blue for S2. Maybe there won't even be a Direct in June...
