A STATEMENT FROM NOEL
28 August 2009

"It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.

"Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan."

this is worse than MJs death to me :(

Oasis were fucking huge man.. go back to listening to the latest Pitchfork flavor-of-the-week.

were is the imporant word here. They wrote a half dozen catchy pop songs about ten years ago and haven't done anything worth mention since the Eden of the East opening song.

lol wut

Their first two albums were fantastic. You know, the ones released 14+ years ago.

Jack White wish he could write anything remotely as memorable as Oasis best songs.

Their last album was killer, a real return to form.. and Heathen Chemistry and Don't Believe the Truth have some underrated gems on them.. sheep.

Dude... wtf is with 2009? All these dead people, MJ gone, and now Oasis? Is 2009 now the new 666?

And I wish you could write anything that made sense. :/

Jack White's songs at least all sound completely different and he seems to reinvent himself with each album, while Oasis wrote maybe 6 mediocre songs a decade ago that all sound exactly the same.

I wouldn't say Jack White is even close to one of the best songwriters (he'd be pretty low on my list) but it's certainly above Noel Gallagher.

The Stripes arent half as good as The Rolling Stone magazine says. :/
I've never paid attention to what the music media has said is good or bad. I've never even read an issue of Rolling Stone.

and yet still immeasurably better than Oasis.
Just because they dont have a bass ? ;)

Now... the most underrated band of the last 10 years : The Strokes. I really like them.

Just because they are overrated a bit doesn't mean that they aren't great. :/
Yeah, i like White Stripes too.
Anyway this shouldnt be a 'lets bash bands' thread. Sorry.

you're joking right? Oasis have numerous timeless classics.

the only thing the average person remembers from the white stripes is SEVEN NATION ARMY COULDNT HOLD ME BACK.

I wish I could find that SNL skit where Wil Farrell is in the British gov't and keeps directing the topic of discussion to possible Noel Gallagher leaving Oasis. :lol

Just re-watching him in my head standing up and going, in his English accent, "But WHAT will we do if Noel Gallagher leaves Oasis!!??" It's... :lol

I'm a sheep because I don't like the recent work of some burnt out band? And why this assumption that I must be some Pitchfork acolyte just because I don't like Oasis? I know you guys are in a fragile state right now, but seriously.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with that lyric at all. Also, Fell In Love With A Girl, Icky Thump, and Blue Orchid are fairly well known, and all sound different from each other.

Was it Liam or Noel who was known as the super-douche? they were both assholes but I think one outclassed the other.

Liam :/

What was your bad taste example? It must have been something truly awful for an Oasis fan to be able to comment.

You have a fucking Lost icon.. stop acting like you're an authority on what's quality.

Liam is the asshole.. Noel is cool as hell. Go watch any interview with him on youtube.

Gee, you sure are quite the critic, aren't you? Does everything suck other than what you like?

Fuck all of you people who are cheering our fave band is broken up... I can't wait till your fave band breaks up so we can shit all over your musical inspirations.

GTFO!!!

Yes, because there are far higher quality fictional TV shows. Like what? I could name two hundred bands better than Oasis, in fact, I'd struggle to name any serious ones worse. Maybe the Coral.

The little memory I have of your posts has displayed a shocking ignorance to music.

Let's see your list tough guy.

Lots of angry people here... bye guys.

I wouldn't exactly call them burned out. Their album from last fall was their best in a decade, and it was both a critical and commercial success selling over 2 million copies in an era where nobody is selling records. This burned out band also somehow puts anywhere from 50-75,000 asses in seats in big stadiums all over Europe.

I was supposed to see them at a festival tonight... The allegedly had a fight backstage prior to their set. The singer from Block Party, playing right before announced it in between two songs.
