WAHP: Great new podcast focusing on Japanese gaming

So I caught wind of this in the Gamefan returns thread and thought it deserved it's own thread. This is a new podcast focusing in-depth on the Japanese side of gaming and is hosted by all ex Gamefan alumni including Shidoshi, Nick Rox (Aokage on GAF) and Casey Loe (Takuhi from Gamefan). They've had 3 episodes so far, the first 0 episode pretty much is all about their history with Gamefan. The next 2 episodes though delve into a lot of games that may get covered here on GAF but it's very nice to have a podcast dedicated to stuff like Project Diva, Steins Gate, 7th Dragon and tons of other games you'll never hear about in other gaming podcasts. So yeah, if you've heard enough on FF13 I would reccomend diving into the latest episode first as there's a ton of different games covered there. The talk about Japanese devs on twitter was pretty interesting too.

I was introduced to this on another forum. I really like it, as it definitely fills a niche in my podcast library. Totally worth the (long) listen!

I'll check it out. Now we just need a podcast to cover Japanese games released in America and all the gaming podcast bases will be covered!

Thanks for the plug! We're recording 003 tomorrow, should be up tomorrow night or Thursday morn.

(Oh, and Lateraleye, we do run down all the Japanese games that are being released in America too.)

Cool! I didn't know you were on GAF as well. I have to say, Gamefan was my favorite mag by far back in the day so it's good to hear from you guys. I listen to a lot of the 1up stuff, GiantBomb, Idlethumbs and so forth so it's very nice to have a podcast talking up stuff you rarely hear about.

Thanks for posting this, sounds like the sort of thing I'd be interested in. Looking foward to listing to what they have to say about Project Diva.

I've only listened to the introduction to the members/former games writers, but I enjoyed it. I sense this will be the most insider-oriented one, so I look forward to the rest. Great job, all.

I just listened to the 2nd episode. This show is really great. I'm definitely going to subscribe to and follow this podcast.

Wow, not being paid for 4 months? And we still aren't sure who it is? If my company missed one paycheck I'd probably bitch on gaf about it :lol What a sleezy CEO (if those rumors about cars and such were true)

So, any confirmation that it was indeed Tri-Ace since recording?

Ugh, I agree wholeheartedly about the length. I have no idea how one page of notes keeps ending up as three hours of podcast... :p

Any ideas what sections seem overly long, or should we just be doing fewer topics in general? We'd definitely love the feedback!

I am prepared to promise more Kojima Poems for you, HamPster PamPster!

I am also prepared to promise more Kojima Poems, and perhaps some Mikami Puns, which are trending now!

I also agree about the length. It's ridiculous, frankly. We have to stop going off on side-tangents... just nip those in the bud when they come up.

Thanks for listening, everyone!

\the problem is, when a group of people tend to specialise themself on a theme or country. They tend to apear to know less than what they supposed to know.

happens with RPG podcasts and Anime Posdcasts a lot. I hate when official ''journalists'' make obvious factual mistakes on podcats. Giant bomb and more general ones tend to be more accurate.

maybe i will try listen to them and see how good they are (btw, i am not expert on japanese games, RPG or Anime, its just they tend to speak incorrectly even i can pick up on it, and i hate it)

Pleasantly surprised here. I listened to all the stages(episodes) while I was studying before work in the past day or 2.

Guys if any of you are reading this please keep it up, you're like the only podcasts I've followed well....I believe first in this fashion. I hope those tri-ace rumors are just rumors though. I found the whole bit with God of War 3 & Heavy Rain in Japan rather hilarious.

Forgive the delay! We will be much more prompt with Stage 5, I promise.

Sort of.

Don't hold me to it.

I'm holding you to it, bra.

Hey folks - I think we've come a long way in the audio quality of the show since our first episode, but I've heard from a few people that the overall volume can still be a little low on certain devices.

Well, I'm happy to report that I've finally figured out what the issue is: the option in GarageBand that says "use this feature to help fix the show's audio and make sure the volume is set high enough" actually does the complete opposite. *laughs* After turning this option off and re-exporting the latest episode, there is a noticeable increase in the overall show volume level.

If you checked out Stage 004 and had no problem with it, then great! If you did have volume issues, however, the fixed version of the episode is now up. If you're subscribed to us in iTunes, just delete Stage 004, refresh the feed, and you'll be able to grab the fixed version. You'll know for certain that you have the fixed version when, in the show notes, it now says "//Stage 004: Special Edition" (where before it just said "//Stage 004").

I plan to go back and fix the volume on all of the older episodes, but that hasn't happened just yet. Once the entire back catalog has been fixed, I'll let you all know.
