By popular demand, I present to you the Official HispaniGaf Thread of Esprite & Vaporru, brought to you by Goya: "Si es Goya, tiene que ser bueno."

TM

Credits to yencid for the thread title and the idea behind the thread.

In my thread, the The Hispanic Paradox, HispaniGaf came out in full-force to recount the various little anecdotes that really bring out the flavor of the Hispanic experience.

It all started with the first post:

wenis said:
It must be the warm 7up we drink when we get sick. I hear it's the bubbles that really helps.

After wenis recalled how we tend to drink fuzzy drinks like 7up and ginger ale when ill, the thread derailed and became about our shared experiences as Hispanics.

SuperAngelo64's post was especially funny. :lol jajaja

SuperAngelo64 said:
I love how sometimes a house will redundantly have both 'clear carbonated cure-alls'.

"Any soda, grandma?"

"Chu wan' espry or sebenah?"

"Do you have any Dr.Pepper?"

"(mocking) Ay que pinche 'Doker Pebber'"

So basically this thread is about anything and everything "Hispanic."

---

I'll start off by saying that, my parents coming from El Salvador and having myself been raised eating Salvadoran quisine, I think pupusas are freaking awesome.

They're basically tortillas stuffed with soft cheese ("quesillo"), pork ("chicharrones"), and refried beans (frijoles fritos). Anyone tried them?

:lol

Does the plastic give it some extra flavor or what? Maybe that's the key to the whole "Hispanic Paradox".

And here I was making fun of Canadia and their bagged milk.

Well if you are Hispanic and raised in NYC you must have drank Champagne Soda.
Just found out today they make a Diet version. :lol Had not had this soda and years...the Diet one taste very close to the original :D

La Chilindrina is still around and looks the same. That woman does not age.

my friend recently had a baby and his grandma recommended that he tape a quarter on his navel to cure sickness.

wondering if this is a hispanic thing.

:lol I really don't know. Also, coca cola in those small glass bottles is better than any other presentation known to man.

Oh shit, people are starting to show the big nostalgia guns. El Santo, el chavo del ocho. Might as well jump in:

Mis padres tienden a llamar a cualquier tipo de videojuego "Nintendo." Y para los campesinos de El Salvador, todos los vehiculos son "Toyotas." :lol

I know she's still around. I've met her in person several times and she really does look the same. It's so scary!

Way before your time. I'm 32. In the 80s it was still big...pretty much died in the 90s.

Yeah, I ate pupusas about 3 months ago in the local Salvadorean restaurant that's a couple of blocks from my house (NYC, Washington Heights; it's a restaurant that's between 173rd and 174th and Broadway I always forget the name.), that stuff was crazy spicy, but it's pretty damn good. It's a nice break from Dominican food. And this thread 'ta jevi.

Copy what you said wenis.

How about this for Ear aches:

Warmed up vegetable/olive oil
Pour it in the ear
place cotton ball over it
Have to hold completely still the entire night/day while sleeping so it didn't spill all over the bed :lol

but it fucking worked!

My mom did that for me all the time when I was little. I didn't have to sleep on it though :lol

It really did help!

I still got one of my old Trompos in a drawer here somewhere. I remember taking it to the playground here in NYC so that I could catch it with my hand and so that I could pick it up off the ground.

My fellow classmates were pretty impressed to say the least.

Also, anyone remember this?

Did you used to put razors in the tails and put them to fight each other?:lol

I left the country before I was 10, but still remember all the fun stuff I used to do.

All of the Hispanics I met so far in US were super duper extra nice.

/edit

Oh yeah Tortillas will become my bread substitute since all you can get in most stores here is crappy, white toast bread.
And oh, I need to go to a real Mexican/Latin restaurant to get the taste of the food.

My dad is Salvadorian so I was also exposed to Salvadorian food as well.

I used to love pupusas a lot, but I haven't ate them in years because I got a terrible case of food poisoning from eating one of cheese. :(

I'll still take a bite out of one of meat, but I will never touch a cheese pupusa ever again in fear I might get food poisoned.

Pienso que la persona que lo iso no lo cocino bien. :(
