Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2 (PS3/360) Announced

A new issue of JUMP has announced the sequel to last year's Dragon Ball: Raging Blast. Raging Blast is the successor series to the Budokai Tenkaichi/ Sparking! series on PS2 and Wii. Not much is known except that developer Spike should be returning, and that it'll be released this year (along with the game with similar gameplay, TAG VS.), and that it seems the game has been given a graphic overhaul.

I was hoping that Bandai Namco was going to rotate between a Burst Limit and a Raging Blast every year, :(

Official Site

NA/EU release confirmed for Fall 2010 along with Tenkaichi Tag Team for PSP (renamed TAG Vs). Which, is honestly looking a lot more promising and fun than RB2. :lol

Here's what NB had to say about RB2:

Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2 is the sequel to last year’s high-flying, fast-hitting, and intense versus battles series. Dragon Ball Z fans can rest assured that the destructible environment, and character trademark attacks and transformations will be true to the series. These include signature Pursuit Attacks which enable players to initiate attack combo strings, juggling your opponent in a string of devastating strikes throughout the environment. Additionally, Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2 will sport the new Raging Soul System which enables characters to reach a special state, increasing their combat abilities to the ultimate level. Sporting more than 90 characters, 20 of which are brand new to the Raging Blast series, new modes, and additional environmental effects, Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2 is the next evolution in the home console series.

Graphical overhaul my ass, they need to use ultimate ninja storm's engine.

Namco Bandai owns the developer who does the Ultimate Ninja games. Namco Bandai doesn't own the developers who do the Raging Blast and Burst Limit games.

That said, RB2 looks better than the first, seems they turned down the weird plastic polish they had on the models (the models themselves still look kind of nasty, but eh).

isn't the info in the op wrong? i think this is supposed to be like the budokai games, not the budokai tenkaichi ones. they were very different.

Even if they handed them over the engine, those sweet ass UNS animations aren't going to create themselves.

The problem with Raging Blast 1 is that they used the same models and animations from the Tenkaichi PS2/Wii games and just retextured them.

If they hold back on the number of characters for a core cast of DBZ heroes/villains, they could probably afford to give each model the attention (and animation) they deserve.

I hope it's a better game this time.
Raging Blast was interesting, but flawed (awful camera and environments).
I won't buy a sequel that is inferior to Tenkaichi 3, in terms of gameplay.

The characters models look more like those from Burst Limit now. I'll wait for a trailer to confirm, but I prefered the more anime-like characters from the first game.

Burst Limit fans > Please go to hell

The models were new and they did decrease the cast to the point that it had less characters and forms than Sparking 1. They reused animations though, especially for the standard attacks.

I'd actually have liked it if they just reused the old models and kept the old characters, if they were going to keep the engine similar anyway... such a waste, especially after Tenkaichi 3 had such a ridiculously big line up.

Anyway, not interested in Raging Blast 1 and I probably won't be interested in this. They're promising 90+ characters, but that's probably including transformations, like usual for Spike's character numbers.

How much of the story do the games cover? I wouldnt mind if it provided an extremely quick overflow of the entire series, thats the type of DBZ game Ive been waiting for.

Spike's games, Tenkaichi/Sparking and Raging Blast, always cover the entire Z series. Tenkaichi 2 even included a few GT battles and most movies (as well as a few DB characters), and Tenkaichi 3 included some DB story too and every Z movie.

Yeah a graphical overhaul is what they need. The reason I didn't pick up Raging Blast was because it looked barely better than Tenkaichi 3. Make it look like Burst Limit (Budokai style, me no likey) and then we are talking.

I really wanted to love Raging Blast 1 since I enjoyed Sparking 2 so much, but it didn't feel quite right, but that may have been because I hated the damn camara so much.

Got to say though, I am tired of the DBZ story, own the anime, played several of the fighters, I know the story by heart so I am hoping they do more crazy original stuff like SSJ3 Broly and Vegeta like they did in RB 1 to make RB 2 more fun during the unlocking stage of the game.

Is this gonna be like the Tenkaichi series? I stayed up 20-30 hours playing Tenkaichi 2 with my brothers and stuff watching most of the time, unlocking everything and going through all the stories. Really enjoyed those games.

lol, no. What a shitty game from a shitty series of games.

Screens

Are these raging blast 2 screens? And don't slag Tenkaichi 2, by far the best Dragon Ball game. If it weren't for Tenkaichi 3, which perfected 2.

Ah, that's much better :D Sparking Meteor was so awesome that an HD port with online would have been better than Raging Blast. And those pics are from Burst Limit.

Burst Limit. And Tenkaichi sucks. The game has the polish levels of an indie game, or maybe worse. Every character is a copy of each other, it's crap. Not to mention the story mode has the shittiest cutscenes ever. Great job on the music too... doesn't even loop right.

It should be better to wait for RB3 next year, it should be close to Tenkaichi 3 on every level.
I just hope they keep Broly and Vegeta SS3, because I don't have RB1 and will never get it.

The camera was fine in Tenkaichi 3. Give me back T3's camera in RB2.

The controls were better and more responsive too :( I've never quite gotten the whole "tenkaichi is too shallow, give us moar budokai" when budokai games also have mash-the-button combos and repeated movesets, especially when there are legitimately good "proper" DB fighting games such as Shin Butouden or Super Dragon Ball Z.

Super DBZ bombed badly and I don't think we're gonna have another Butouden game anymore. So fans of this kind of DBZ fighter put their hope on their last "savior", Budokai.
I've played enough DBZ games for now, I can wait until next generation.

Can't wait to see DBZ on PS4 :P

Just a question... why is the AMD logo in those pics?

I was scrolling through the thread and had to do a double take on those. :lol

"Raging Blast 2 is coming to PC? WHAT?!"

I was under the impression that GAF was very much in the Tenkaichi camp. Glad to see I'm wrong! Burst Limit/Budokai love is strong here.

Tenkaichi series was such broken button-mashy garbage. They really need to take the DBZ games back to traditional fighting styles. Budokai 3 needs a successor, cos Burst Limit was kinda sketchy.

Ans that is such a shame, B3 was a great game, the best in it's series. BL is absolute trash!!! Anyone who thinks is isn't should be forced to actually play it for the rest of their lives.

Do another burst limit and then I'll be interested.
This. I have never liked the Tenkaichi games, but always enjoyed Budokai. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Dragon Ball Games [To Be] Released in 2010:
Dragon Ball: Origins 2 (DS)
Dragon Ball: TAG VS. (PSP)
Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2 (PS3/360)

And we're probably not done yet. I'm thinking we'll get another DS RPG, or a new Wii game by the end of the year.

Burst Limit was basically a remake of the first Budokai. Me thinks Scamco thought they could do what they did last gen, but when reviews and sales were down they found out they weren't going to be able to. By that I mean release annual sequels with minor fighting system adjustments and expanded rosters. The fact that they thought they could get away with Burst Limit only going up to Cell after Budokai 3 was hilarious. Even worse when they released Infinite World for PS2 later that year.

I guess with Kai airing they're going to do what they would've done to Burst Limit to Raging Blast (which last gen did go through the same formula of annual sequels).

Burst Limit was actually more of a remake of the PSP games, Shin Budokai and Shin Budokai: Another Road. These games were themselves extensions of Budokai 3, but they replaced standard "punch" and "kick" buttons with "rush" and "strong" attacks. It became extremely button mashy, with every character's best combo being "rush rush rush rush rush strong."

Don't get me wrong, Budokai 3 isn't the peak of fighting games or anything, but it was certainly the peak of the DBZ series, and at least the combos were varied enough that the characters felt pretty different from each other. I really don't care for the changes that were made in the PSP games, and carrying them over to Burst Limit was extremely disappointing.

Raging Blast was a good game but there were a few areas they could improve on

-Camera
-Polish controls
-More destructable levels ( I missed seeing huge blasts where the camera would zoom out to space)

Also maybe better effects when you launch a super attack at an enemy from high in the sky down to the ground and when it hits and explodes.....thats it, not even a scorch mark.

I really enjoyed Raging Blast, just give me more characters and I'll be happy with 2.

Same here. I'd like to get some transformations/characters from GT and then I'd pretty much be thrilled.

It's funny, as it seems like it was just the other day that only one (crappy) Dragonball game existed and it cost upwards of $300 used on ebay.

Now we're nitpicking about too many games, etc.

Back on topic though, they'll probably just keep rehashing these until they don't sell anymore. I'm sure we'll get a Kai specific game soon though, so hopefully that has a bit of an upgrade.

Not Burst Limit 2 like I'd assumed it be.

Not Super 2 a game that needs to be made.

But Raging Blast 2 a game I could do without even though I'll cop it for my little cousins sake.

Not that the Sparkling series was bad I just prefer the Z series to it.

I wonder is this the game where they become obscene with the roster. Can a pimp please get Rilldo this time? I've been waiting forever to play as him in some capacity. But we'll see.

I don't get where the BL hate comes from. My honest question to all the haters is did you play Shin Budokai or Infinite World? Because those are the legit successors to B3 with some evolution to the gameplay mechanics. Hell, Evolution was decent because it was a skinned Shin Budokai. Burst Limit built on all of that was was a great game. They made it as if they were gonna pop another sequel instead of going balls to the wall and getting the whole Z mythos in at least. They could've doubled back for DB or GT in a sequel but BL should've covered Z in entirety instead of leaving us at Broly and Bardock with no Turles, Lord Slug or Cooler. But maybe they needed the extra development time for BL2 to drop but who knows. We'll see where this goes from here.
