The winners are in! - Team Fortress 2 Polycount Community Pack

We’ve managed to wrangle Valve in their ‘Valve-time’ slipstream long enough to catch the names of the 5 Winning entries to the first ever Polycount Pack for Team-Fortress 2.

Members of the Polycount Community were given 5 weeks to come up with a SET of items for one of the 9 different TF2 classes. These sets had to be within the same theme, and fit well within the TF2 universe. In total, some 70 sets were completed and entered (read: thats at least 210 items!) It’s no wonder they had their work cut out for them when choosing the first ever pack.

And as a special treat, everyone who entered the contest will be getting a Polycount Pin, which will be released when the Polycount Pack is released. In addition, a few individuals who contributed to the contest greatly, but did not enter the contest themselves, will also be given a Polycount Pin. It’s Valve’s way of thanking you for helping the rest of the entries become even stronger.

Out of the 70 or so entries that Valve received, Robin tells me that nearly half of the entries are of a high enough quality to be shipped in future updates without much work needed on Valve side. So, if you did not win this time around you can be confident that your items will one day find there way in to Team Fortress 2.

The ‘Polycount Pack’ Winners
Narrowing it down to 5 sets for you to eventually unlock in Team Fortress 2 (the release date is unknown but coming in the close future) the winners of the first ever Polycount Pack are, in no particular order:

Can't wait for them to implent all of this. Winners are deserved, but I would've hoped for more :D I love the mackarel and the croc o style though.

Would've liked for some sillier hats though. Milkman hat plus softcap are boo.
 
Crossposting from Engineer Update thread but, I love them ALL. Tank Buster and the Spy's stuff most though. And will be curious to see how the new flamethrower works too.

Black Box + Degreaser + L'etranger look awesome.
 
Good choices, but Tank Buster is my least favourite by a good margine. Just doesn't look 'Team Fortress 2' like to me.

I was just forgetting how I liked the Fez. The fez is awesome. The fact you're getting a bowtie with the cap slightly redeems it, but they're almost all caps, goddamnit. Milkman, softcap, attendant's cap... :(
 
Looking through the other submissions I do believe Valve made a good choice with these selections. All of the items are well done, but I'm really not a fan of the fez or 'croc gear'. Weapons are nice though.
 
They are all really great, but the sniper shield/hat combo is definitely the best. It's all really stellar though, I hope they do more like this in the future.
 
I wonder how the soldier weapons are going to work. Going by their name, they should be OP as all hell.

Glad to see the community making some good items and valve implementing them.
 
Croc-o-style Special Delivery and Tank Buster would have been my pick for each of those classes too glad they won. None of the pyro ones I thought were exceptional. Spy class selections were all stacked tons of good entries, Saharan Spy is great.

My guesses:

The Tank Buster Pack (Soldier)

-The Black Box (rocket launcher)
Fewer shots or slower, bigger boom.

-The Battalions Backup (WW2 radio and bugle)
Gives you a boost when fighting alongside injured teammates (opposite of buff banner)

Special Delivery (Scout)

-The Shortstop (revolver)
Shorter range, more power. 4 shots total? Or 4 shots at once?

-The Mad Milk (bottle of milk)
Recovers health and increases max health (like the chocolate bar).

-The Holy Mackerel (Fish Melee weapon)
Slower, but with a chance to apply fish oil (Jarate).

Gas Man (Pyro)

-The Powerjack (car battery hammer)
Slower, stronger.

-The Degreaser (flamethrower)
Less damage, but burning lasts longer.

Saharah (Spy)

-The Eternal Reward (knife)
Causes bleed

-The L'etranger (ivory Revolver)
I'd guess weaker but faster, in contrast to the other revolver unlock.

Croc-o-Style (Sniper)

-The Darwin's Danger Shield (Croc Shield)
Increases HP and attacks backstabbing spies? How does the Razorback work?

-The Sydney Sleeper (Dart Rifle)
Slowing effect like Natascha? Possibly causes a bleed?

-The Bushwacka (Large Machete)
Could the seriously give the Sniper a MORE powerful melee weapon? It's got to be super slow if so...
 
I seriously hope something better than that. I want some real special attributes instead of slower X, more Y. That shit got stale in the first community update.
 
Croc and Tank buster were given, great looking stuff in those two packs. Grats to the winners!

I wish I entered now, by the time I realised what was going on the end was only a few days away so I had no time to make anything good :(
 
I don't get the hate for the spy stuff. The fez is cool, and the knife and revolver look gorgeous. It all comes down to the implementation, of course, but aesthetically, it might be my favorite pack.
 
I'm excited about a new Scout pistol, Spy Knife and Sniper Rifle. Mmmmmm...more items that I'll never be able to acquire via the drop system.

Did the Ambassador ever get a revolving chamber for when it shoots? Hope the new one has that animation.

Fortunately for you, crafting is fairly easy to do! I crafted a whole ton of items I hadn't acquired yet thanks to a few repeats.

And no, I don't think the Ambassador ever got a revolving barrel. The most disappointing new weapon, by far. =(
 
Waiting for attributes before saying one or another, but they are all of high quality production.

I wish the dart gun wasn't a rifle but a blowing mechanism, you exhale breath to the device to send the dart flying. Can have a 'charge' ability of taking bigger breathes, thus the dart will go farther and in a direct line (like the Huntsman). You will have a 'recovery' time so you can't shoot big-breaths one after the another.
 
Wonder what stats they are gonna put on the Spy's knife. Everything that isn't an instant kill is a downgrade!

That would be wonderful for Scout. I could even see a +30 to +50 health overheal being fair, as it's only temporary. Scouts often ask for overheals anyway, and thankfully they don't take long to heal.

Maybe a stun like the sandman, but there would have to be some major penalties if so.

Perhaps something like the eyelander?

Get a few backstabs for a health/speed buff?
