A 36% drop in sales is not enough for it to be caught by Ubisoft’s ‘Dance on Broadway’ (-9%), which climbs 2 places to No2, only around 800 units behind ‘Crackdown 2’. Lego Harry Potter’s spell on the charts is slowly wearing off as it drops one place to No3 (-31%), while another previous No1, ‘Red Dead Redemption’ (-19%) also slips one place, down to No4.

There is only one new entry this week, Disney’s ‘Toy Story 3’, new at No5, while the rest of the All Formats Top 10 all make way by each falling one place. Microsoft also benefit from retailer price promotions and bundling on ‘Alan Wake’ (+98%) that helps shoot it back up the Charts from No23 to No11. Another retailer promoted title, ‘Bioshock 2’ (+97%) enjoys a similar jump, up from No24 to No12.

So we know the original 360 launch did around 70k and thus the Slim did around the same. Add in the older units(discounted) and likely over a 100k total for the week last week.

It alread did. Those sales are from Q1 alone. (Just Dance launched in Nov 2009)

I think it passed one million in the last sales award list, remember it came out last year.

July 27th, so not the dlc.
Price drop? + 360 S I'd say.
Maybe word of mouth feeding back too. Or people who got RDR instead of AW are now picking it up?
 
I think the Alan Wake price drops would have been reflected in last weeks chart so I think the sales of the Xbox 360 S are responsible for the jump.
 
Alan Wake had huuuuuge discounts last week with the Collectors Ed going sub £20 and the same with Bioshock 2 going sub £10.
 
UK just buys everything that is released. Crackdown 2 as number 1? oh,man...

Question: how many units did the 360 sell during its launch week? My memory is Microsoft shipped 50,000 units to the UK for launch, but it's been a while.

I'm not convinced with those.

JD's popularity is that it's exercise that focuses on being fun and doesn't feel like a workout DVD. It's really interactive too so that you feel like you are getting feedback.

Broadway & JD2 follow this.

Exergames are popular, just see the Wii Fit sales, but they are played in very different situations.

I see the Jackson game being marketed as JD for boys. I've yet to see teenage boys get together to practice their dancing and don't see this one doing that well comparatively.

Probably has a lot to do with RDR coming after the big Q1 rush, and no big releases to compete against it for June/July (aside from Crackdown and Harry Potter).

The next 'event' HD release is probably Mafia 2 in August.
 
I know Rooms received a sizable push from Nintendo, but it's still a little bizarre seeing it in the top ten for the month.

Will Nintendo's DQ campaign produce similar results?

Thanks, Road. Maybe the ELSPA charts combine the LE with the regular edition now (and these are individual SKU). That'd be 66K+ of the LE sold since release.

They weren't official bundles, most stores sold the game (half price or less, depending on which store) along with new purchases.

HMV, for example, sold the 360S along with either AW or Conviction for £210. I'm pretty sure Game, Gamestation also sold the game for half price or less alongside 360S purchases.

Nice to see DQIX up there after IV and V were sent to die.
And VIII launched at #19 (All Formats) back in 2006, so this is pretty much the best debut of any DQ. Whatever that means... :P

It means that Nintendo's (rather fantastic) advertising in the UK has worked :-) They've been airing dedicated ads (one traditional and aimed at kids, and one "expanded audience" that focuses more on customising and dressing your warrior before taking them into battle) as well as including the game in the roll for their DSi price drop TV ads.

Delighted to see Super Mario Galaxy 2 hanging on in there - thanks no doubt in part to the continued TV ad run. Any idea how it compares to SMG in terms of placement and time in the top ten?

They also had in store demos in a couple of places Fri/Sat with dedicated staff to do the presentations. The stores that had those actually sold out of copies.

It's a great start and promises to widen the market for that kind of game in the UK. I ordered my copy off Tesco UK yesterday for £21. :D


Blurb states that MW2 (across 3 formats) is just closing in on Dr. Kawashima for best selling game in the UK of all time. It's going to pass it and thus prove that there is really two markets for gaming and whoever can get both to buy the same machine is going to 'win' the next big battles.

I mean - can you imagine the install base boost if Brain Training 3D and MW2 3D were on the same portable Nintendo hardware...
