PSP In 2011: The Swan Song Year

Nirolak

Mrgrgr
Well, this may be the PSP's final year, but as far as games are concerned, it's going out on a high note.

This year the format is a bit different. Instead of having an exhaustive list, I wanted to highlight the more promising games in more detail, so you may notice that things like sports ports and Ubisoft's fascinating game line-up are missing.

Thanks to duckroll for all his help in making this year's thread.

Nice work with the thread. Given it is probably the last year of viability, it's also the most I've cared about it.

Agito, T3B, Dissidia 2, FF4CC are all must plays for me. I didn't like Dissidia, but the new structure is interesting to me, so I'll try it even if I don't end up buying it.

It feels like the culmination of all my PSP gaming is Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. I don't think the platform could go out on a higher note personally.

Tactics Ogre, Monster Hunter 3 Portable, 3rd Birthday, Agito, Persona 2 and Valkyria Chronicles 3 for me.

My PSP will receive a lot of love this year. I'll be getting:

Ys I & II Chronicles
Final Fantasy Agito XIII
Persona 2 PSP
FFIV Compilation
Maybe Trails in the Sky Trilogy
Maybe 3rd Birthday

I'll definitely be playing the PSone classics on my PSP too (Xenogears, Legend of Mana, etc.)

I want that KFC: Colonel Warfighter Combat game! :lol

But man, I don't know how to feel if/when Agito isn't released this year...would it make it the longest PSP game in development?

is that...colonel sanders? :lol

PSP has some astoundingly good software for a dead platform. I'd pick up another one cheap to play them if the PSP2 wasn't right around the corner.

6 years was a good run. I just got mine last year, and i've been kicking myself for not getting one sooner. It's a really great piece of hardware.

Anyone commented on loading and jerky animations yet? :(
I was excited for the psone ver years ago til I got a chance to play it

Not sure, but I do know everyone who has played the new Tactics Ogre thinks it's totally amazing. I don't think I heard about any particular severe loading issues.

Wow pretty much every game is an rpg.... I will probably just get Monster Hunter Portable 3rd and Agito XII.

Yeah, that list plus the ps one classics coming out easily gives psp the most solid 2011 line up after ps3 (if it doesn't beat ps3 entirely). That people aren't buying PSP games is the single greatest tragedy of this generation.

Although I feel like at least a quarter of the games on that list have been on it since 2008. Devs need to start pushing their catalogs out already.

Trails in the Sky's release date is March 29.

A lot of great titles there, though a lot that haven't been confirmed for NA release yet. Still, even the ones that are are enough to make 2011 one of the best years for the PSP.

Once again we get another good year of the PSP Line-up that trickles out ever so silently. 2010 had some of the better games that I played on the PSP and a lot of them went under the radar as usual.

Day One for Valkyria 3, Agito XIII, Third Birthday.
Also will pick up Dissida 012 after a price drop and Final Promise Story if it looks like it will be a great title.

Tactics Ogre <3

The big SE Q1 stuff is already dated for Europe too:

- Tactics Ogre: February 25th
- Dissidia 012: March 25th
- The 3rd Birthday: March 30th

US dates will likely be similar given their launch policy lately.

Well, that line-up is certainly aimed at one type of player.

I'd just be content with a NA release of Pac-Man CE. Though, in a perfect world, Super Meat Boy and Castle Crashers would be released too.

What a lovely surprise this is - I had always thought that 2010 was the PSP's final year. I can't fucking WAIT for Tactics Ogre. Also gonna get The Third Birthday and Agito at the very, very least. Probably Dissidia 012 and Valkyria 3 as well.

People kept telling me that it was pretty bad and to wait for Hero 30 Second instead, but if anyone has positive impressions I can add it.

how different are the old persona games compared to persona 3?

AFAIK (and comparing it to Eternal Punishment, as I've never played Innocent Sin), it's much harder (you have to select the right Persona all the time especially during boss fights or else you'll die quickly), not to mention you have to heavily rely on your Persona.

Also, I find EP's story much more darker than P3 and obviously P4.

Yup, it doesn't seem to have any technical problems whatsoever. Just good old tactics gameplay with no slowdown. If only they could patch WotL...

So looking forward to this! I'm sorta shocked how many great sRPGs I missed out on by not picking up a PSP sooner, I have a nice huge backlog of incredibly fun looking strategy games, and a few others that caught my eye as well, going to love catching up on them all.

The 3rd Birthday
Persona 2: Innocent Sin
Valkyria Chronicles 3
Final Promise Story
Little Battlers
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
Ys I & II Chronicles

and maybe to some games.... Its really been awesome for the PSP since last year!

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II is coming out next year for the PSP (Spring 2011, Japan) too BTW, maybe that's also worth adding?

Really? Then again Idea Factory games are mostly bad games so I'm not surprised.

I'm trying to avoid un-upgraded ports this year (at least those where the original released in the West) since they kind of ended up dominating the list last year.

I do appreciate you pointing out stuff I missed though, since I definitely tend to miss things with these lists.

I know it won't come and its a slightly upgraded port but it'd be nice to see Venus & Braves :P

From that list though I'm interested in everything but Monster Hunter and its clones. Hopefully SE keeps up with the collectors releases and XSEED with the Falcom love.

Gotta give the PSP all the last gaming love before they finally pull the plug. :D

I'm assuming all things Namco aren't coming. : (

Thank goodness the PSP is at least getting a plethora of different genre's in it's last year on the market giving it on of the most varied line-ups ever seen in gaming.

In other words : another year of not touching my PSP/ wondering why the heck I bought it in the first place.

Very good thread, although I'm surprised Patapon 3 is missing. It was originally supposed to come out in November 2010 (on the same day as God of War: Ghost of Sparta, I think), but was delayed to March 2011.

Puzzle Quest 2 is another game that was originally supposed to be released for PSP (through PSN) by the end of 2010, but didn't appear as scheduled. Infinite Interactive's Web site has been flaky in recent days (it was down a few days ago, and is now "suspended"), so I don't know what's going to happen with this game.

My intention was to replace them with the new ones we'll get on January 18th, since everything else was kind of dark and blurry, and that's pretty soon.
Pata-pata-pata-pon 3?
I did not realize that was not out yet. Thank you.

Damn, that is a lot of high quality stuff (RPGS RPGS :D). I hope they continue that with the PSP2

*salutes*

The last mindblowing jump in console chipset performance.

Everything that has followed has been according to the curve (though Cell's architecture was certainly bleeding edge).

Crazy to think of but before Xmas this year I will be the owner of both next-gen handhelds.
