GAF Replays Police Quest AKA Fill Out Form 3.14 all the damn time!

I recall (somewhat fondly) playing Police Quest 4, but man did I get killed a lot (getting killed always seemed to separate Sierra Games from Lucas Art ones in a general sense). I liked the gritty feel to the story (granted the dialogue for certain characters were pretty stereotypical IIRC) and giving somewhat of an idea of what police work was like (FORM 3.14!!!)

I recall liking 3 when I played it (it contrasts nicely to 4, but man did I hate driving), but I don't think I've ever played 1 or 2.

Anyone else have fond (or any) memories of the games?

I remember getting stuck at a specific point in Police Quest 1 as a kid. It was during a DUI stop and you had to administer a field sobriety test. I tried to give that drunk driver a breathalyzer so many times.

I eventually stopped playing around PQ 3 I think it was. I didn't get the proper time on a speeding ticket for the pregnant woman and 3 hours later, the game ends with me in shame and destroyed when the woman rebuts the ticket in court and it gets thrown out because it didn't have the proper time.

Really? That's worthy of a game over?

smh

It was brutal about getting the minutia of police work. It went OTT at times, but I think it was also one of the goals to give be a real idea of what police work can entail.

I remember having the speed increased while walking and I'd always forget to slow it down again when I got in the car. Crashed so many times D:

everything is worthy of a game over! forgot to circle your car before leaving? enjoy your flat.

I died so many times in the first Police Quest because I didn't do every little thing I was supposed to. I loved it when the guy I arrested pulled out his knife and started stabbing people in the police department.

Was that if you forgot to search him or cuff him?

In addition to this command line interface, possible actions for the current location are also available by rightclicking or by pressing "/". More actions are listed under the "more" submenu.

mind. blown. always played it command line only as a kid and thought it was the hardest game ever.

In other words, they're basically pirating these games.
There's a neat feature where you can watch other people play the game and see their input. Certainly that's more than just putting the game online.

Besides, these ports must be better than the shoddy Dosbox jobs that the Sierra games have gotten.

I loved PQ! I could never finish the first one though, I didn't know what to do when you were done using the girl in the motel room. Can't remember if I finished 3 either. Never played 2...

Edit: I played the remade version of 1, not the old school one.

I actually saw that sarien.net site posted on another forum a few days ago. I tried playing Police Quest but I died within the first 2 minutes when I typed "take off clothes" which caused him to die for some reason.

Police Quest 1 (original version) was one of the first games I played as a kid. Ah, CGA... anyway. It's actually surprising how many missables there are. For the longest time I missed the opening meeting because I went into another room first. Also, you have to be extra careful with giving items. I remember I tried "give extender to russ" and Russ told me something like "Thanks, but now you're NEVER getting it back!" and you weren't allowed to take a new extender. "You lost your extender, and now you want a new one?" (Press Enter) "Forget it!"

Still, I thought it was a great game, and not just for its time, either.

I had PQ2 but can't even recall if i finished it.

Finished PQ3 and that was pretty good...but driving was terrible. I basically drove everywhere at 5 miles per hour so I didn't miss the turn. They wouldn't let you click ahead of time to turn...oh no, you had to wait until you actually saw the street to click left or right. But the rest of it was fun.

Never played 4.

Just wanted to chime in and say these are some of the best adventure games ever, brings back fond memories of late 80's, early 90's gaming! At a time when the big dogs were games like Space Quest and Monkey Island, this series went the whole realistic path, which was a breath of fresh air at the time for me.

These were great, but the best thing about them was that they led to the SWAT series. RIP, not killing everyone in the building.

Damn dude, my brother and I found the hint book (the ones with the red cellophane to hide the hints) in a store about 2 years later and both went "check fst? wtf is 'check fst'?!" I understand now that it's a Field Sobriety Test but I guess they're an American thing...

Yeah, that sucked, must have spent a month or so trying to breathalise that damn Art Serabian.

I always remember Lucy the grandma from the first call in SWAT. The game for some reason scared the shit out of me when I was young. I used to watch my brother play it and I'd be afraid the suspect was right around the corner every time.

Yeah 4 came with an entire copy of the LAPDs manual!
