RDR2 is now the third best-selling game of all time

Or is it just one of Adam's balls in my throat?

All eyes are on GTA 6, but Red Dead Redemption 2 continues its remarkable success, selling more copies in the last year than in any 12-month period since its launch year back in 2018.

Rockstar Games' masterpiece has now sold an incredible 85 million copies to date (up to March 2026), and while that's just over a third of the eye-watering 230 million copies GTA 5 has sold, it's enough to make Red Dead Redemption 2 one of the best-selling games of all time. Indeed, it's now above Wii Sports as the third best-selling game ever released.

And that's done with only the 30 fps last-gen versions.

Could very easily boost another 15 million if they drop the updated current-gen version.

I think it did big numbers on PC too right?

Well earned I'd say. I honestly don't like GTA much, but the RDR games are treasures. There's something about them that is...., I don't know, elevated, for lack of a better word that I can conjure right now. They're special experiences, and they resonate deeply with me.

Replayed it earlier this year, still holds up, but it's so deliberately paced that I won't want to replay it again for a few years.

Thats insane! I remember when this was at like 40 million, the fact that 45 million more got the game and not a remaster in sight is fucking impressive.

I had my own issues with it regarding the gameplay in terms of limited free agency, the story in terms of the narrative was just horrid and all over the place to the point of contradicting itself.

Its still a solid open world game and a must play for anyone that likes open world crime games. After 100 plus hours, I don't see me returning to it any time soon, I might wait for a remaster or wait until after I've done 200 plus hours in GTA6 before I return to RDR2.

Either way, Rockstar is the developer to beat regarding open world concepts.

Congratulations to the most overrated game of all time! Gamers sure do love riding horses from point A to point B a million times, and mediocre linear third person shooter. Who wants actual good gameplay when you can have shrinking horse balls instead?

Have not played any of the RDR games, but RDR2 is in my backlog. Bought it for a good price during a sale on Epic, been laying there for some years now.... one day.

My only concerns might be the tempo/pacing and gameplay, a bit too much "simulation"-y perhaps. But who knows, I might end up liking it when I finally play it.

Not surprised after they stole my RDR2 from Steam. Now if i want to play the game again on PC i need to buy another copy. Or look for Jack Sparrow.

Was it an inside job?
It was a DRM piece of shit Social Club job. Plus the worst costumer service in existance run by bots. I literally lost access to all my rockstar games on my Steam Account, thankfully it was only 2 and only spent a less than 20$ on both combined.
But now i cant play any rockstar game on my steam account as long they use the Social Club as DRM to start the game. So im either forced to buy the games again from the rockstar store by creating a new Social Club account, or pirate they games. And the second options is how i plan to go for any future rockstar games on PC.

For me and SP games I get the most meaning and value out of expertly crafted experiences like that and TLOU1&2. The GTA games are somewhat similar if you stick to their story missions, they're highly polished and funnel you through high-touch moments. No different than being along for the ride in a movie except you get to control smaller pieces of the action but the plot remains the same. I love it.

Side note, just tried to pick up Days Gone 30 minutes ago and put it down. Needs more polish lol.

Imagine being the studio that made 2/3 of the best selling games of all time.

It's been 15 years of Minecraft and people still won't let go of their disdain towards the game.
In fairness price is a factor to units sold. You wouldn't include f2p games for example but you can get close to "free" to increase units.

i've never managed a replay, but i've gone back in as post-game john marston & just meandered around & done some hunting. just a great environment to hang out in. never did find gavin, tho...

Minecraft is absolutely insane. Buying it was probably the only truly great decision Microsoft has made since the Xbox 360 era, with the franchise estimated to have generated around $10–12 billion in revenue since the acquisition.

And one of the worst games of all time
I'll never forget a mfer here telling me it's ok for the game to fail me for going left instead of right because that's what would happen in real life.

Said it before and I'll say it again, less options than games like Deus Ex and System Shock 2 that are nearly 30 years old.

And Notch's tears which are priceless from being a bored billionaire. I wish I still had the one where a furry compared him to the guy from great Gatsby and Notch melted down.

I love how the core gaming market comes out with these rankings, ignoring that mobile and casual games are a thing.

Tetris has sold over 450million paid copies on mobile alone (this figure will be much higher if you include all historical sales across all legacy gaming platforms).

When it comes to F2P though, the king is a shitty mobile casual fest called Subway Surfers with a whopping ~2-2.6 billion downloads.

Yeah, the mission structure is absolute garbage and the controls are terrible as well. The difference between loving and hating this game is completely based on whether you can stick with it long enough to get past these issues or not.

Top 10 GOAT, well deserved. I assume the only reason we still don't have a PS5 patch is because they will eventually do a PS5 port with extra bells and whistles, will buy again 👌
