This definately looks interesting. The main focus seems to be combat & exploration (there are huge boss monsters like in Castlevania) but you can still build your own 2D castles and collect resources if you want. There's also multiplayer support so you can do stuff together with at least 4 other guys.

Saw the trailer for this yesterday, it looks fantastic imo.

I especially love that it actually has decent water physics. Also love that there just seems to be so much stuff in the game already, looks like there are loads of different items to find and make, a variety of different enemies and boss fights aswell.

I really like that art style, and bosses and such would be good. However, I have to imagine that, after playing Minecraft for so many hours, that building 2D structures wouldn't be nearly as rewarding or interesting as what's offered in Minecraft.

Looks great but the only thing that looks out of place is that sword attack / mining animation.

That's one of my favorite parts. It gives the game a certain charm to it.. Although all the other particle effects from other weapons and attacks get a bit too distracting.

Pretty awesome. I was waiting for someone to create a 2d minecraft. There was that 2d version of dwarf fortress, but this game definitely seems to be taking a much different direction.

Anyone else notice how the player models are basically a certain Nintendo FF character?(I honestly can't pin which one, just reminds me of that style).

This looks better than Minecraft, IMO. Larger variety of enemies, NPCs without the use of mods, more weapons, bosses.
Will be even more awesome if the mod community grabs ahold of it.

The main character in this game basically looks like Halloween Harry with a yellow hat instead of blue.

A LP of the alpha with the developer is being released part by part on this youtube channel if you want more gameplay footage. Watching those, I really wish Minecraft would add the feature of holding a torch to light the area around you.

They're edited fighter sprites, I think.

Everything looks amazing but the black fog. My attitude might change once I've played it, but I think the terrain should be fully lit with a sharply contrasting black void for areas not yet explored.

A "fog of war" could be ok if it were handled like in Civilization. As it is the levels of visibility are too many and shift too quickly.

Otherwise it looks amazing. All the more reason I want the lighting to not be ugly.

Muy interesante!

Looks cool.. could be have some better animations but I will surely be checking it out. Its so strange no one has thought of this before.

woah looks cool. I dont even like or care about minecraft but I could get into this.

Looks neat. I'm more interested in the Metroidvania aspect than the Minecraft aspect.

Doesn't look like it will be out for a long while anyhow, judging from the development start date. Lot of work done in a short amount of time though.

Wow, looks like Minecraft and Metroid had a baby. Looks great. I love the hectic-ness of the battles in that trailer.

The multiplayer looks great but I'd more more interested in this game for single player. What he said:

I will totally play this if there's a full fledged single player mode.

Yeah, I got a FF vibe from the characters as well. The sword swinging animation looks like something I've seen back in the SNES/NES days as well. (Not hating on it or anything)
