Sounds interesting though I'm cautious as I seem to recall a pretty bad reception for the 360 version.

Nice to see they're using MLAA though.

LOL still no changed voiceovers? I actually complained about it on their Facebook page and the director sent me a reply stating that it would have cost too much money to sort them out, but why didn't they good good actors in the first place? I real scotsman costs no more to hire than a fake one.

Apart from that I really liked the game, I don't mean to give the wrong impression.

listen to the mad man
$15 game -> permanently reduced to $10 -> repeatedly sold for $5 -> now ported to Steam.

Can't wait to pay $5 total for all three chapters of Hydrophobia when it's all done and released.

Don´t be fooled by the laundry list guys. The latest update for the 360 version had a similar huge list of improvements but they couldn´t fix the crappy gameplay.

I'll keep that in mind.

I thought these items imply that there some new voiceovers:

* Scoot character recast, now played by Oliver Vaquer (GTA: Liberty City Stories, The Warriors, Law & Order)
* Characterisation improved with remastered voice acting and additional scenes

I feel cheated. This ought to be an update for those who bought it on the XBLA.

Have to recoup those development costs somehow. It was announced in 2007, its initial release wasn't until late 2010 and Wikipedia says it had sold 17k by October. Perhaps if they hadn't signed with MS for temporary XBL exclusivity the game might have enjoyed a significantly better front-loaded sales period.

apparently the game still wasn't good after the last update and that's why I didn't buy it during the last sale

maybe they should just scrap everything

In understand the appeal of MLAA, but the love it gets as of late is absolutely ridiculous. Why people would only bold that as a major improvement, when the gameplay was the major disappointment with the original is beyond me.

MLAA is a good AA solution, but not the end-all-be-all of AA solutions. It still has major drawbacks such as being unable to cope with subpixel geometry, something SSAA and MSAA do a far better job at. It is a nice compromise in terms of performance, and the IQ is quite good considering that, but I don't see it becoming the standard for AA come next generation unless it is used along with other forms of AA.

I thought the game looked pretty interesting and it seems like they are trying pretty hard. If it has pad support on PC I'll probably grab it on Steam.

It's used on the PS3 because the only other realistic methods of AA are GPU-based 2xMSAA or QAA. Despite the current (and few) shortcomings of MLAA, it's a far better alternative to either.

I don't see MLAA becoming the de-facto standard on any other platform unless it's in the same hardware position the PS3 is in; low-end GPU, high-end CPU.

bought it when it was $5 bucks, played it for an hour or two. The game wants to feel like a big budget game, goes through all the steps for it but just isn't much fun. its heavily scripted. I haven't given it enough time to see if it opens up from the scripted parts. for five bucks I shouldn't complain tho. Its worth it for that price.

W00T! That was him, Scoot!

P.S. I hope the original actor never works again, although I suspect they used one of the development team or the janitor.

Pretty much.

Do we have any screenshots from the enhanced version yet? Also when does Steam usually put preorder pages up?

Impressions from the updated XBLA version wasn't good at all neither were sales. I can't believe they are still going ahead with the three chapters = full game idea.

I liked the game on XBLA when it came out. Now though, I feel sorta gypped that all this content is coming and not for mah 360, :(.
