Another year, another I/O conference...and well, I was hoping that one of our most vocal web developers on GAF would make this OP. Unfortunately he's not around to do so. I'm not a developer, but as an end-user of these products/services (i.e. Android, Chrome and hopefully Google TV) I eagerly await this conference every year.

The thread title includes some hyperbole, as there is no gurantee that Google will showcase neither ICS or their Music Cloud service. But here is hoping they do. That said, here is a small article detailing what to expect form this years I/O (Mostly rumors):

Key people I'm looking forward to hearing from:

Andy Rubin, SVP of mobile

Vic Gundotra, SVP of social

Hoping for Android-GAF and Chrome-GAF to help out in filling this thread with awesome info!

Happy Geeking!

Full Text Search
May 11, 10:45AM – 11:45AM / Room 6
At last we are adding a full text search service to App Engine. The upcoming service will be built on top of the very infrastructure used by Google. In addition to full text search queries we will also offer numeric, geo, date search capabilities, and much more. This session will cover the basic full text search API, briefly outline more advanced features, and how full text search ties to existing services such as datastore

Track: App Engine

FINALLY.

Did they do that in previous years? I always remember them going up a while after the event.
Oh, I don't know. I guess I assumed that not being live streamed meant no video at all. I always watch these things a bit after they happen. If they put the videos up later, that's cool.

Yeah, I think they do. 'Later' in previous years has meant a couple of weeks though, IIRC. I guess they want attendees to have some exclusivity on some of the sessions for a little while.

Amateur Hour UI. See stuff you won't see for over a year! Free tablets as bribes! Come one, come all!

There have been next to zero leaks so far. So this should be damned amazing.
Or does that mean there is nothing to be leaked? I'd like to know if there is any chance of a Nexus phone, available for AT&T, running Honeycomb (or even Ice cream) being announced next week...

Hey guys, I'm in SF for Google IO, so if any of you crazy motherfuckers are looking for someone to grab a beer with, let me know. I'm @rahul on twitter and I work on a product called Handcraft (http://handcraft.com). Woohoo!!

Zero chance of a new Nexus phone. They're on a yearly refresh with the Nexus line, and Google has been giving away tons of Nexus S-es lately.

A Nexus tablet, however, is possible.

Hmm... Ok so what would make a Nexus tablet different from the Xoom? A 7" version? Stylus support and a note taking application? A keyboard+trackpad dock and dual booting Chrome?

A $100 cheaper price tag would be nice! LOLz :P

Haha, true that. But Asus set the benchmark at $400, nobody else will be going at low. And the eee pad has an IPS display too, goddam.

A 7" Xoom is coming.

How likely are we to get Ice-Cream sandwich?

Preview at most. Considering there hasn't been any statue rumblings, it's not even close to being open sourced. =(

Google just updated their blog and stated the videos will be available 24 hours after the conference.

And GAF will have live streaming the moment someone is talking. Everyone should expect this by now. :)

RUMOR ALERT!!!!

One of the devices will be a tablet, though no specifics on which tablet was announced. If I were a betting man, I’d put money on the newly released ASUS EeePad Transformer, though Motorola’s Xoom tablet is also a strong possibility.

Didn't someone mention LG was shipping a bunch of consumer products to the campus?

Expect 3D APIs all over the place.

\/ So much for "original thinking" huh? =P \/

Nexus T Toshiba Tablet Next Official Google Release?

Our good pals at Metalev have a few clues gathered up that point directly at this device being the next in the Nexus series – Nexus T they’re calling it, and with its NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, prismatic lithium-ion battery, and 1280 x 800 resolution 16:10 aspect ratio adaptive display, its definitely not out of the question.

What’s a prismatic battery? It’s a big fat battery that has 3 times the life of a standard lithium ion batter in essentially the same package. Besides sounding fantastic, why is this relevant now? Because @googlenexus has a challenge going on with their Twitter followers and the answer to the puzzle on the 2nd of May was PRISMATIC. – this puzzle put together by metalev’s Luke Hutchinson

@googlenexus’ challenge ends right before Google I/O – perhaps some free tablets are in the works for the masses of developers attending?

This tablet has been up for preview at Best Buy for some time now, but without a name and without much branding to go with it. Have a look at the video here and see if you think it’s possible that this is the next in line for Google’s infamous pack of powerful bigtime blasters:

It's always fun seeing the new awesomeness Google is planning for Android and Chrome. Gotta try to catch the live steams.

I am lowering my expectations for I/O this year in hopes of being pleasantly surprised. I hope they do something awesome with the CR-48s out there.

Pretty much the same for me.

Google to Start a Cloud-Based Music Player

A month after Amazon angered music labels by starting a cloud-based music player without their cooperation, Google is doing the same thing.

Google plans to introduce its long-awaited cloud music player Tuesday at Google I/O, its developers conference in San Francisco. The service, which it calls Music Beta by Google, will let people upload their music collections to the Internet and listen to the songs on Android phones or tablets and on computers.

Google does not have licenses from the music labels, even though it has been negotiating with them for months to partner on a cloud service. As a result, users of Google’s service cannot do certain things that would legally require licenses, like sharing songs with friends and buying songs from Google.

“A couple of major labels were not as collaborative and frankly were demanding a set of business terms that were unreasonable and did not allow us to build a product or a business on a sustainable business,” said Jamie Rosenberg, director of digital content for Android. “So we’re not necessarily relying on the partnerships that have proven difficult.”

Yeah, like remotely installing Ubuntu over Chrome OS.
