13/Jun/2011

14 years after it was originally announced, ‘Duke Nukem Forever’ finally makes its long awaited appearance in the All Formats Chart, debuting at No1 and knocking fellow Take 2 top seller ‘L.A. Noire’ (-54%) down to No2 in the process. Xbox 360 is the main Duke Nukem Forever format with a 56% share, ahead of PS3 with 30% and PC 14%

A healthy looking ‘Zumba Fitness’ (-2%) manages to keep Sony’s PS3-exclusive newcomer ‘Infamous 2’ out of the Top 3, climbing one place to No3 with ‘Infamous 2’ having to settle for No4 – one place higher than the original which launched at No5 two years ago. ‘Lego Pirates of the Caribbean’ (-38%) starts to walk the plank, down 3 places to No5, ahead of Codemasters’ ‘Dirt 3’ (-37%) which also falls 3 places, down to No6. Sales of ‘Brink’ only drop 1% this week, but it still falls two places to No7, making way for the new releases ahead of it. There is one other new entry this week – THQ’s ‘Red Faction: Armageddon’ at No8, sales of which are predominantly on Xbox 360 (70%) with PS3 only accounting for 26% and PC 4%. Making up the remainder of the Top 10 are previous No1’s from Activision (Black Ops at No9) and EA (Portal 2 at No10, overtaking FIFA 11 as EA’s top selling game this week).

I guess Brink still doing so well in the Uk just because of the bomba prices right?

Yeah its had a pretty big price cut, i will pick up dnf when people start trading it in enmass which is so going to happen.

DNF has been advertised like crazy, seen a lot of adverts for the game. Brink, Killzone 3, Halo Reach and LBP 2 are bomba prices. Not seen any inFamous 2 adverts as of yet but would expect something soon and FIFA 11, well it's a best and has been bomba price pretty much since release. As for Zumba Dance, it seems to have taken Just Dances place and will be interesting to see how long that lasts.

But i think KZ3 still has definitely shown lot better legs then KZ2.
although the untimely downing of PSN has definitely caused lot of damage to many multiplayer games..

i'll wonder if the german marketshare in the MCV data includes pc games. otherwise i'll say, that uk market isnt as big as expected.

Contribution from the last mentioned country is only 0.1%, so, I guess, we can put it like this:

They GFK/Chart-track only track 12 nations, and there is 50 nations in Europe.
So, I wouldn't put to much stock on that chart. :P

So in retrospect, reviews really don't matter for big budget dumb summer action entertainment (Brink, Duke Nukem). Way to overreact 2k.

It was bigger, but the UK got hit harder after the economic downturn than, for example, Germany. The gaming market in Germany relatively sustained it size but the UK market shrunk.

But i think KZ3 still has definitely shown lot better legs then KZ2.
although the untimely downing of PSN has definitely caused lot of damage to many multiplayer games..

KZ2 was on the charts for a very long time as well. Performance seems similar though I believe KZ2 opened lot better overall and in more countries.

Course calling KZ3 bomba price is a bit silly seeing how old it is now. Price drops are pretty normal, and I could see lot of sales coming from the move bundle if they are discounted too and counted here.

Sorry for the double post:
UK Top 40: Zumba beats Zelda
Resurgant dance regime Zumba Fitness has leapt back to the top of the UK gaming chart.

Nintendo's Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for 3DS surfaced in second place. It's the highest placing yet for a 3DS exclusive - around 20 per cent of UK 3DS owners picked up the game.

This leaves Duke Nukem Forever, last week's number one, in third.

On its original Christmas 1998 launch, Ocarina of Time for the N64 stormed to first place with a record-breaking 100,000 first week sales. Ocarina 3D isn't doing shabbily either - total sales have almost equalled current 3DS top-seller Pilotwings Resort, out since launch week.

Nice to see Infamous 2 still relatively high up the charts.

The Eurogamer mentions that 20% of 3DS have picked up Zelda OoT, but wasn't it only released this weekend?

Edit: removed "only", that wasn't implied in the article.

That's pretty good, I guess we can tell Nintex the 3ds is out in europe now.

I think you're adding the 'only' there.

You are right. I've edited my post. I should have used my brain before posting: Zelda sales are quite impressive for a few days of sales, actually. I'm also very close to pick up a 3DS because of that game.
