Both titles were launched on Xbox 360 and PS3 with Red Dead Redemption showing a 65% Xbox 360 and 35% PS3 split, compared to L.A. Noire’s share of 58% on Xbox 360 and 42% on PS3. L.A. Noire positions itself as the 13th fastest-selling Xbox 360 game in the UK and the 11th fastest on PS3. Disney’s ‘Lego Pirates of the Caribbean’ (-6%) holds on to No2 as last week’s No1, ‘Brink’ (-48%) slips to No3. Sales of ‘Zumba Fitness’ (-6%) remain relatively stable, as it makes way for L.A. Noire by only dropping one place to No4. Namco Bandai’s ‘The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings’ on PC is the only other new entry to break into the All Formats Chart this week, entering at a very respectable No5 – outselling the original title’s launch week sales by more than 3 to 1. Price promotion on ‘Crysis 2’ (+71%) sees it jump from No9 to No6, while EA’s other sequel ‘Portal 2’ (-22%) moves in the opposite direction, down from No4 to No7. EA’s 3rd Top 10 title this week, ‘FIFA 11’ (+17%) stays put at No8, having only spent one week outside the Top 10 since it was launched 34 weeks ago. ‘Mortal Kombat’ (-22%) hangs on to a Top 10 position despite slipping from No6 to No9, while ‘Black Ops’ (-35%) also clings on to the Top 10, down from No5 to No10. The launch of a new Wii value hardware bundle with Mario Kart sees the Nintendo classic motor back into the Top 40 at No23 (+266%).

The Witcher 2 at 6 is surprising to say the least. How long had it been since a PC title was in the top 10?

Yeah, Total War: S2 was in March, that seems like the most recent one. (Unless that Sega game you mentioned was released later, but since I don't know what you're referring to I can't check. :p)

Clearly this isn't the momentous occasion I had thought it to be. :p

DOA DOA?

I am genuinely surprised. Next to Nano Assault, it's the only title tempting me to get a 3DS. Thing is, right now that machine is looking ripe for a price-drop. I wonder if others are thinking the same thing and holding off? Drop it to £150 and I'd grab one in my lunch break.

Then regret it because the games are way too expensive.

At those prices, and with R4 Cards on DS and iOS on Apple mobile devices, a generation of handheld irrelevance beckons - just like the PSP. Mario Kart, Super Mario 3DS will cause relative blips but that's just about it.

I'm not sure about irrelevance but I think you're right about it possibly having echoes of the PSP about it. I think it'll eventually shift units (when it's the only Nintendo handheld on the market) but because of prior expectations, it'll have to do an awful lot to avoid being branded as a 'failure' or 'disappointment'. If the NGP launch looks anything like this, I expect the unit to get mercilessly ridiculed.

Right now, the thing looks fucked, but it is very early days and the utterly lackluster launch software makes it difficult to judge things properly.

Or maybe Nintendo will start taking digital distribution seriously?

No DOA 3DS ?
It number 2 in the 3DS specific charts. Simply put I don't think enough people have hardware for really 3DS games to make it beyond about oh, number 30 in the individual format charts and/or some of those that do simply don't care about the game (I can see some people not bothering due to already having Street Fighter or you know...£40..£40 which could get them LA Noire). Speaking of 3DS, Steel Diver Sunk iwthout trace (i.e. its out the 3DS top 10).

Dragon Quest VI managed 8th on the DS specific charts being beaten by the likes of Mario Kart DS, NSMB, Pokemon and LEGO but beating Layton 3. I expect it to sink though..unless most prospective buyers are like me and have put off buying it for now. Also, Chart-Track list Nintendo as the publisher so the confusion continues (NOE say Square-Enix are the publisher and so it wasn't eligable for the Club Nintendo bonus points...)

I didn't see it in Tesco on Friday. I imagine the majority of people anticipating the game would have imported.

it's probably not a good sign that i consider myself a pretty big dragon quest fan yet i didn't even know vi was coming out over here, let alone last week.

Not that I disagree with you per se but i suspect many people who got burned with the PSP in the West will not be too eager to jump in again - especially not in todays economy. That Sony has just announced remastered PSP classics for PS3 has weakened their handheld case yet further. Furthermore, if the price of the 3DS is any indication, there could be a very small gap between the price of the PS3 and NGP - eroding it's position yet further.

Well that's just it isn't it? I think the substantive point is how Apple has redefined the development eco-system on its iOS Appstore at impule buy price points. It's new, fresh, exciting even. So what if they're "timewasters"? Compare this Appstore with yet more Lego games, yet another puzzle bobble game, yet another ridge racer and so on and so on. They just feel like stale and tired "corporate" games.

Reminds me of the DS launch, seems everyone else has forgotten. Super Mario 64 DS only charted with the DS because it was Mario the rest of the launch period titles did shit.

Except this time 6 years ago, a DS Star Wars game was charting higher than Mario 64 in the DS chart whilst Mario was still in the top 20 All format chart. So things seem to be shitter than back then. Convoluted comparison thanks to the lack of old individual format charts.

And for lazy 3DS fans, DoA came in at 2nd place.

1 1 LEGO PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
- 2 DEAD OR ALIVE: DIMENSIONS
2 3 PILOTWINGS RESORT
3 4 NINTENDOGS + CATS: GOLDEN RETRIEVER
4 5 SUPER STREET FIGHTER IV 3D EDITION
8 6 SUPER MONKEY BALL 3D
6 7 RAYMAN 3D
5 8 LEGO STAR WARS III: THE CLONE WARS
- 9 PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2011
9 10 RIDGE RACER 3D

Once again blown away by Brink's success, here in the states I didn't see any tv ads, though you can't go one commercial break during NBA/MLB without seeing LA Noire.

DOA is another victim of slow 3ds adoption. I think that Zelda and RE merc will do decent, but they won't change this tide. Only Mario/Mario Kart/Pokemon can really shift units at this price, there's literally no reason for casual gamers to pick the system up over a Wii, Iphone, or Kinect.

I think the offer's ended now. Edit: actually it's an in store only offer so I could be wrong.

Disagree with the bolded. The bottom of the top 40 lists doesn't have a lot of sales. There are more than 100K(?) 3DS systems out there, considering the drought in good software since launch, DoA should be doing better numbers than that. If OoT fails to make it into the top 20, it'll be a failure imo.

Yeah, this is exactly what I'm expecting given the performance so far. I'm confident the lull will last long enough to panic retailers into some heavy discounts. Sadly I'm not oop North but I'm sure midlands retailers will be cutting the price soon enough, they're already £199.99 everywhere.

Reminds me of the DS launch, seems everyone else has forgotten. Super Mario 64 DS only charted with the DS because it was Mario the rest of the launch period titles did shit.
No I didn't forget, but the same still applies. As of now the 3DS is irrelevant. I can see that changing with better software, but like the DS launch, the 3DS is a non player right now.

Which is actually good as it forces Nintendo to put more effort behind it than they currently do.

I wonder how much this effects hardware..

My flatmate saw the MK bundle offers and told me he wanted to buy one...

thing is, he doesn't have a TV in his room, and my Wii is hooked up to the main TV in the house, right next to his 360... so it's a waste of his money if he buys one. He says he just wants a new toy, and that he might get a 3DS when Zelda comes out instead... if he blows £150 on a new Wii when he can just play mine whenever he wants, I will facepalm myself to death. People are weird. Maybe he's thinking ahead to when he moves out!

So, the charts do include hardware bundles?

Not sure. Although you can buy a Wii with the game packed in, HMV, Game and GameStation are all offering custom bundles of vanilla Wii's with the game for the same price as the official bundle.

The best bundles they're offering have a Motion Plus Inside remote, Mario Kart and Wii Sports Resort...

The PAL charts always have, at least in the UK. Remember Forza/Kung Fu Panda bundles.

I thought so. A while back I suggested this was the case, even using the sudden appearance of Forza 3/Lego: Batman/etc. in the charts after a bundle was released to justify my position, but was told by a couple of people that it was incorrect. Granted, one was a Forza fanboy and the other admitted he wasn't sure how it all works with the UK charts.

It's the first time Poland invades Germany !
Fantastic performance.

edit : but wait, this is a PC only chart ? Damn.
re-edit : do you they separate charts for PC and consoles ? I don't remember so but if really is the case... well, it may have fared well for its opening week.

If you can also buy it separately then it counts. If it's ONLY bundle (Wii Sports 1 at launch) then it doesn't count.

Fuck knows what'll happen when Wii Sports 1 comes out in the classics range - do all those old sales magically appear? Does it auto platinum?

Yes charts are seperated as already said above. We'll see how long it will stay up there.
But german pc sales are in general stronger as console per plattform sales, I guess it would have topped the combined charts too, but that's just guessing.
