Lucasarts’ ‘Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars’ climbs one place, back up to No2 (-12%) which is where it debuted 4 weeks ago. EA’s ‘Crysis 2’ drops one place to No3 (-32%) and the publisher actually has 4 titles in the Top 10 this week (one more than last week) – ‘FIFA 11’ climbs 8 places to No4 (+88%) thanks to retail promotion, ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters’ drops one place to No5 (-11%) and ‘Shift 2: Unleashed’ drops 5 places to No10 (-46%). Sandwiched in-between No 5 ‘Tiger’ and No10 ‘Shift’ are THQ’s ‘Homefront (-8%) stable at No6, Nintendo’s ‘Pokemon Black’ up one place to No7 (+17%), ‘Pokemon White’ also up one place to No8 (+13%) and Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ (+62%) up 4 places to No9. There were plenty of retailer deals to be had for the Easter holidays, such as Warner Bros. Interactive’s ‘Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4’ (+112%), up 12 places to No11 and Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘Red Dead Redemption’ (+458%) a re-entry at No13 and last seen in this chart back in week 4, 2011.

The only new SKUs within the Top 40 show as a re-entry, as Ubisoft’s 360 Kinect/PS3 Move versions of ‘Michael Jackson: The Experience’ join the late Nov10 versions on Wii/DS/PSP – the title re-enters at No15 (+324%) and the 360 version takes a commanding 64% of total sales, highest new entry on the Xbox 360 FP chart at No7.

Any information on the 3DS launch date ? Japan and america already got them...come on NoE, when will it be released in europe ?

Wow Crysis 2 and Homefront doing the business on 360.

Zumba.... lol. Surprised there is only one version of Michael Jackson: The Experience charting.

Whats with all the re-entries like LBP2, RDR, Fable III, Kinect Sports ?!

LBP2 is on sale for £19.99 at Gamestation. Not sure about the others...

Crysis and Homefront really benefited from nothing coming out for weeks (on the HD consoles) after their respective releases, except for Tiger Woods and Lego Star Wars. Next week is Portal 2 vs. Mortal Kombat vs. SOCOM vs. Conduit 2, so they'll both get bumped down.

Michael Jackson is the first new Kinect game to chart in a while.

We europeans are still not used to having simultaneous releases.
People are waiting the usual three/six months to buy the 3DS.

With regards to the 3DS I know this is purely anecdotal evidence but this is the first time ever I've seen a major console/handheld release and I don't know not even one person that bought one, both my brothers aged 12 and 14 don't care either, they are addicted to their iTouch's, they also said that no one they know in school went and bought a 3ds either and they attend a rather large secondary school, it really is quite surprising.

RDR is also £19.99 and I think that AC Brotherhood is £29.99!

Brotherhood was around £19.99 earlier in the week, as well as the Da Vinci edition for £20.99 at GAME.co.uk.

360 software more dominate than usual in the UK. Microsoft's strategy to be essentially propped up by 3rd party software in the absence of any meaningful exclusives is paying dividends, meanwhile Sony can't buy a home run these days, God knows they've tried.

I think that's the time when Nintendo needs to rethink their strategy. Mobile games cost less and capture the same crowd and now it shows in actual numbers.

Aha, must have looked like something was missing without it.

Multiplatform splits. Random question, Wii used to be a dominant Tiger Woods SKU, why is it doing so poorly now?

The day the price was announced my thought was that no matter what the software, it needs to drop in price and stand by what I said. Egg on my face if Mario Kart 3DS releases this year when 3DS is still £190 and it starts selling like hotcakes but Nintendogs which is already out has not done anything.

Did my usual last week, went to Sainsburys to get some cookies and muffins followed by GAME which is literally 30 seconds away from there. Black Ops, FIFA, Assassins, Reach were all for under £25 at GAME but the shocker for me was Shift 2, games not even been out for a month yet and it was down to £25. That is a bomba if I've ever seen one, did the first not ship something stupid like 5 million? Too many NFS games in too little time.

The launch of 3DS here in UK is a shamble. The marketing sucks, The TV ads is not informative, The stores are not handling it pretty well and casuals actually thinks its just another DS re-relases. Nintendo dropped the ball with its biggest market in Europe.

Nice percentage of the DS version ;)

I've been wondering the same thing. Only thing i can guess is that in the begining more casual players bought it for the Wii due to the motion control, and these people might be happy enough with one version of Tiger Woods.

For hell's sake, this joke has been justified for the second week in a row. It hurts more each time. The 3DS is nowhere to be seen :o

Pretty much.

So many DS iterations and poor marketing mean people are confused.

People easily get confused about consoles so that's not an excuse. When DS came out everyone was like wtf is this? People have to be motivated to learn, and the way you do that is through amazing games.

I don't think its the games. The 3D gimmick behind it scares people away. They think its just a DS with 3D, and tbh, who can blame them?

Packaging is near identical lol

Something should chart before that. Newowners will need something to play eventually. Can't imagine the bottom of the top 40 list are putting up big numbers.

The masses might think the 3DS is nothing more than an expensive DS revision. Who can blame them...

Blame Nintendo.

Blame Apple more like, seriously, kids are more interested in iTouch's and iPhones these days not the 3ds, the 3ds is complete fail imo, awful design, expensive system/games, terrible battery life, practically non existent multi-media features, and also ok you've got a nub/slider now but then your back to the same problem the PSP had if you want to play any serious games on the system.

Same here. Pretty much anyone thinks it's just a new DS and they already have one. They do have it on display on most stores though, and to my surprise, the 3D slider was all the way down on 2 of them...

The lineup is lackluster right now, thats why most consumers arent interested. The will change once some heavy hitters are relased, as for multi media features we should get more access to 3D content with the following update....

I think Iwata was drunk when he gave that thing a green light.

The problem with people thinking it's just an iteration of the DS is also addressed with the release of some worthwhile games. Such as for example when the next Pokemon comes and people realize they need a 3DS to play it.

Wow at the 3DS.

A real lousy game lineup and a high price means this things beginning to get quite a stink around it.

I wonder if Nintendo is thinking about taking some decisive action. I hope they don't think Zelda:Oot is going to make a dent.

Raist said:

Now that we're beginning to move past Yamauchi's brainchild - motion control and touch screen -I'm starting to wonder if Iwata lacks that killer instinct.

He messed up Nintendo's greatest commercial console success by refusing to moneyhat developers (hey, everybody else was doing it) and now his strategy is coming a cropper in the handheld market that was the one sure thing for Nintendo.

Having said that, the handheld market is Nintendo's to lose; and if they do, well, there's the NGP and Monster Hunter waiting in the wings.

Of course Zelda is going to help. Even more so will be the sudden chain of games afterwards, Starfox,Resident evil etc all coming out one after another.

Popular franchises in rapid succession do more for sales than no new games and a lineup most arent interested in at launch.

It'll take me some convincing that N64 remakes (in particular) and blockbuster RE games on a small screen will turn the tide for this thing. It will have some effect, sure, but I'm thinking limited.

I think the MAJOR thing that will cause uptake of the 3DS is for Nintendo to call time on DS. It's been on the market for 7 years and it's time has come and gone. In other words, drop the price of DSi and XL - substantially - to bargain basement levels (to target women, children and seniors) and drop the price of 3DS everywhere and include Pilotwings as a pack-in (sorry AR Cards are a gimmick and no substitute for a pack-in game).

Sony realised the PS2 was hampering sales of PS3 and this is what they HAD to do to get sales to pick up to acceptable levels.

Nintendo have a window of opportunity of only a few months before the NGP arrives. Better to do it now and build a substantial lead.

If the 3DS fell flat on its face I don't expect the NGP to do any better.

As for the 3DS failing somewhat, remember in the Iwata Asks articles it was clear they didn't know where to go with this so they brought in Konno to fix it. I don't think it'll be a DS like success but I don't think it'll fail given Nintendo's great first party support. Nintendo should've just had better software at launch after announcing the thing with Zelda, Metal Gear and more.
