Journey (PS3) starting an online beta next week?

chubigans

y'all should be ashamed
Edit: yes! Details: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/06/27/journey’s-first-steps-post-e3/

I hope this is true!

4. Not technically a surprise, but I am still enamored with Journey, the PlayStation Network game from Thatgamecompany (Flow, Flower), coming this fall. I had a chance to explore the sandy, copper-colored world with my burgundy-caped character surfing the dunes toward various landmarks. Anticipating many mysteries to unravel. (An online beta begins next week; stay tuned to Game Hunters for free access.)

Maybe they got confused with Uncharted's beta. Or maybe next week will be the best week ever.

There is no way in hell I would beta test Journey. I also wanna experience it all on my first playthrough.

Does this game really need an online beta?

It's basically a transparently online game. So...yeah, I guess.

I wouldn't want to participate in a beta though. Final product experience needs to be unspoiled completely for this one, IMO.

If they gave out an exclusive item through the beta like Gears of War 3, would you guys play it?

I hope no one from thatgamecompany is reading.

You are evil.

...

I'd feel happier about participating in a beta for this if there were replayable and/or random elements. But I think it's a fairly linear experience.

Beta report: tons of glitches! I dont think textures are loading properly. I can't get voicechat to work nor am I seeing their username. I also don't see any way of equipping arms, of both the weapon and human variety. How do I level up? Ugh!

thatgamecompany, please put in a beta exclusive scarf so these selfish people avoiding the (FREE) beta feel bad for not helping you make a better product.

I'd definitely beta test it. I still don't fully understand what you're supposed to be doing in the game, so I want to play it before I decide to buy it.

*cries*

I'd like to beta-test it... but I'm afraid I'd do no good since I'd be in awe the whole time. :(

Joke post? Yes, it does. It is more of a test of design and mechanics than it is balance and net code testing like most online betas.

Pretty much netcode will be tested as long how do the players actual interact, I am sure they have done lots of in house testing on this but you really don't know how it is all going to work until you let random people get their hands on it.

Sure, I'll beta test this, given the chance. I don't mind 'spoiling' the early parts of the game, I just to want to give it a go.

Know someone who was playing a public beta on Tuesday. It's the E3 demo, and they want to test the servers to make sure it's up to snuff. This person thought a public release would be fairly soon.

I wish this game didn't have an online beta.

It would be better off being experienced on release rather than a select few rambling about it on the forums or press.

Full experience of buggy netcode because no one is testing it!
It's like you think you are a tester in online betas.

You're not.

Haha, can't believe he's still a junior after all this time, Sony working you too hard Cyrus?

I'm more of a silent observer than a poster... I'm on here more than I'd care to admit though :lol

Pretty much this. Weird isn't it?

Haha!

How's it going chubigans?
I think I'm going to tease the people over at the TGC Forums about this, now that there's public information available.

And as for everyone concerned, if there would be a beta test of Journey, they would probably have the three levels that they had at E3, which are extremely polished and are basically done. There will be minor tweaks and bug fixes to make it so you aren't broken from the experience.

I was going to post something about the full game, but decided that in my position, I should probably not talk about it.

What I can say is that when I first played Journey, I only played the E3 levels, and in the short time between then and E3, my view of those levels went from "It's great, but I know you will do better" to "Holy buckets! That's awesome!"

So, anyways, as Journey is an online game, I'd say there will be a beta at some point. (It is our first online game, and all.)
Whether or not USA Today and Cyrus are correct about it (and the couple people posting on Twitter, including one person who tweeted that a couple of people were using a PS3 owned by a Media Molecule guy), a beta is bound to happen.

So, basically everything I've said about the beta is that others say it's going to happen next week, or is currently happening.

EDIT: It looks like the Media Molecule tweet was removed.
