New Metro Game Announcement Next Week [Rumor]

Darkmakaimura

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
I didn't see a separate threat on this so I figured it might be okay to use one. Hopefully so.

The Metro series is one of my favorite first person shooters and if this is true I'm pretty excited.

Supposedly this comes from a reliable source. We have known for awhile that a new game is in the works but has been delayed due to international conflicts.

Edit: courtesy saintjules saintjules for mentioning in a separate thread earlier today.

Seven years ago? Wow, Exodus still looks great even when compared to contemporary games.

I got incredibly bored in a very early tunnel sequence in 1 and put it down forever, but recent talk makes me want to try it again. I have Metro 1 Redux reinstalled ready to give another shot.

Was it because of the underground tunnel stuff? Maybe too samey or whatever? Because you may actually like Metro Exodus which takes place a lot outdoors with semi-open world areas.

Idk if it was posted before but here, from 4A website in regards to next Metro:

The next Metro

As we said in our last studio update, in 2022 a full-scale russian invasion changed how we wanted to tell the story of the next Metro game. As art became life for many of our developers in Ukraine, we drew from that lived experience to create an even darker story, those themes already present in Metro becoming ever-more apparent and important. As conflict, the struggle for power, the horrors of tyranny, and the price of freedom have become part of our lives over the past 3+ years, we are still living and working during this wartime, and that inevitably shapes the games we make.

Metro has always had a hard-hitting, political, anti-war and often emotional story - and you can be sure these themes will continue thanks to our ongoing collaboration with franchise creator, author, and activist Dmitry Glukhovsky.

Dmitry has always spoken out against the war in Ukraine from the start – a courageous decision for any russian, that has seen him sentenced to jail (in absentia) - and we are proud to have him as a friend and co-creator as we tell this next, and never more relevant chapter of Metro together.

Rest assured, you are in for quite the ride.

To our community, thank you for your words of support, your patience and your excitement over what is to come. We are grateful to have you, and rest assured, despite the challenges we face, we will overcome them as we have all others before.

P.S. Downloading Exodus EE right now, time to replay this masterpiece a third time.

It wasn't the setting, and I wasn't there long enough for it to be samey tbh.

It's hard to say with it being years ago, but after a slow intro walking around people I was in some sort of cart (I think) doing what may have been an on rails thing (maybe I'm making that up) and I got so bored that I turned it off. Maybe there was some sort of issue I don't remember that compounded it, but maybe it was just boring to me at that moment and the feeling stuck forever. Perhaps the beginning just wasn't selling it to me at that time.

I'll definitely give it another go, and if I like it I'll progress through the rest. With the sales on GOG it's a very accessible franchise.

Do you have any opinions on OG vs Redux?

Please make the main character talk. I can't stand silent protagonists

What makes it even more baffling is that Artyom actually has a voice actor and speaks during the mission intervals, yet they still chose to keep him completely mute throughout all three games.
I'll never understand that decision, the whole silent protagonist approach like in Half-Life 2 has felt outdated for years now...

Go with the Redux. It's pretty much more of a remake than it is a remaster. They included a lot of different stuff and even the voice acting is different. It was a much better experience all around.

Yep. Silent protag always sucked but Metro, as much as I love it, has been worse than most at this. So unnatural.

Okay, so it's safe to expect the Metro 4 will be absolute shit storywise. Glukhovsky has become a liberal schizophrenic a long time ago, which was already very noticeable if you read Metro 2034 book. And it got way worse over the years, long before the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. He's an analogy of an average purple forum user nowadays.

Also, yes, your country is at war we know that. We have been hearing about it 24/7 for the last couple of years. It doesn't need to be connected into the Metro universe. Metro has always had a political connection, but what I respected and liked about 2033 and to some degree LL (despite all the political groups involved), was that it has been more focused on abandoned places, mysteries surrounding the claustrophobic world and mysterious creatures. Exodus was already on the edge of rather being a political propaganda that a videogame story, at least in the first half of the game.

If Glukhovsky had a lot of saying in the new Metro game, expect it to be full of virtue signaling.

After Exodus, there's no way they'll make us go to Metro again, but let's say they will.

I liked what they did in Last Light with the Metro exploration way, WAY more than in 2033, but the surface lvls were kinda mid at best tbh, so if they're going to bring Metro back they also need to massively expand the scope of it in comparison to Last Light as well as make the surface locations just as great and big as in Exodus. But to make all this in the best way possible, there must be interconnected world for a change and not a collection of maps and lvls from the past 3 games and they for sure can do that with UE5. If GSC managed to do it in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, then so are 4A.

But honestly and after Exodus, I can't see them making a bad game regardless. So I'll be there day one.

I wouldn't mind a semi open world that takes place underground. Maybe something like Metroid Prime.

Like, an actual maze.

A Metro-vania.

It will have a female lead, searching for her lost lover(also a female) and a dark one helping her out along the way, which also gives her powers. It goes back underground and they used the bad ending of Exodus as the canon.

Attention, the game has leaked

It will be called Metro 2039

It sure looks like a very early pre-alpha build of 2022 version that got leaked recently and unlike anything Metro games released before. I think it has nothing to do with what the game is now as well as how it looks and plays.

On a side note. Started new playthrough of Exodus (playing EE RT only version) and man, aside from PS4-like muddy textures in places here and there (sadly, there's no HD texture mod to fix this), it looks absolutely insane almost 8 years later:

Hyped af about this but I'm not gonna lie, with just 1 week to go I'd rather not have this announcement being leaked.
It'd be amazing to have the trailer just come up out of nowhere without having a clue about it.

Well, we're going back to Moscow and metro.

Man, I hope they know what they're doing cuz going back after Exodus will be a hard pill to swallow.

Looks like the Dark Ones are coming back... again✋:messenger_weary:

They were my least favorite part of the narrative in the first two games by a country mile and I loved the drastic shift in Exodus towards a more grounded and realistic narrative about a band of people on a giant year long road trip without supernatural alien creatures and other shit from 2033 and LL. Maaaaaan, why?

I want more supernatural. It's my favorite aspect of the games.

Let's break down the many emotions of this thread title:

"New Metro Game" - Cool!

"Announcement" - Oh ok, well at least it's announced.

"Next Week" - Oh ... well ... ok I guess hearing about it next week is still ok.

"[Rumor]" - What!

I've nothing against the supernatural, mind you, when it's done right and tastefully (well, as much as supernatural stuff can be), but everything about the Black Ones was anything but that, complete shit, nonsense and toilet quality. Khan was so bad, so annoying and so badly written in Last Light, that I wanted to punch him in the face and make him shut up everytime I saw him.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. did it better main plot-wise and still does.

In the first book Artyom manages to destroy the entire hive, killing everyone. The aliens don't appear in the second & third book.

Yeah, but if you look closely at the Key Art, you can clearly see the hive there and the Dark One on the character's head. I mean, you don't put things like this on the game's Key Art for no reason and there's Ostankino tower there too along with Kremlin. So they will play some kind of role in the game's story for sure, we just don't know any specifics yet, but hopefully it'll change today.

personally, this's great news. the first 2 games were about as claustrophobic a couple of horror/adventure games as i've ever played...

Darker, Moscow, underground is the opposite of what I'd like but I'll reserve judgement until after I'll play the game.
Don't think that they'll drop the Exodus formula even if the setting will be Moscow again.
We'll probably get a lot of areas to explore and metro/underground will only be a part of them.
