GAF Plays: The Legend of Zelda Series - Skyward Sword Hype Edition

There's been an increasing number of GAFers replaying the Zelda games due to the release of Ocarina of Time 3D and the growing anticipation of Skyward Sword after the E3 2011 trailer, so I thought maybe we could do a new GAF Plays The Legend of Zelda series.

But I'd like to put a twist to it. I want to know how many times can GAFers finish the Zelda games before the release of Skyward Sword. There's still quite a few months left until the release of Skyward Sword this holiday season.

The Thread is probably going to die in the abyss of the second page before that, but it be still interesting to know just how many fans of the Zelda series we have on NeoGAF and how many times we can finish a Zelda game.

There isn't any set of rules. Just pick a game, finish it, report when you finish it and discuss. I'll keep track of the numbers of cleared game we get. (Assuming you guys like the idea.)

The Game: # of completion.

The Legend of Zelda (NES/GC/Wii/3DS): 12
The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES/GC/Wii/3DS): 11
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES/Wii): 13
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening/DX (GB/GBC/3DS): 19
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64/GC/Wii/3DS): 45
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest (GC/3DS): 2
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (GBC): 0
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (GBC): 3
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64/GC/Wii): 8
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (Gamecube): 6
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past/Four Swords (GBA): 1
The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap (GBA): 8
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure (Gamecube): 1
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Gamecube/Wii): 18
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (DS): 1
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (DS): 4

DEADLINE: November 19th, 2011.

Personally, I'll try to clear them all before Skyward Sword's release.

Nice thread. I'm playing Ocarina of Time 3D now. Fantastic like the original. Oh: and of course with 3D effect. Playing it 2D is blasphemy.

Hats off to you sir.

I am currently playing Twilight Princess and also plan on picking up a 3DS to play OOT 3D before Skyward Sword comes out.

EDIT: Oh, and Link's Awakening since it's on the eShop now.

Playing Ocarina of Time. Will probably play LADX after that. (big surprise)

Beyond that? Probably Twilight Princess, and maybe Phantom Hourglass, on account of me never beating it to begin with.

I finished Ocarina 3D yesterday if that counts. I still need to finish Golden Sun first, but then I'll go back and do Master Quest. The game was just as great as I remembered.

I was thinking of playing Link to the Past soon actually, maybe I'll start it tonight or tomorrow. Recently I finished Twilight Princess, Link's Awakening DX and Ocarina of Time 3DS so I'm a little burnt out but I think I'm up for it.

I just recently tried to play Majora's Mask. Last time was in 2003. I beat the first dungeon and whatnot, and then the power went out. Quite disheartening.

Forward to 2011, I recently tried to play Majora's Mask again! SAME SPOT, POWER WENT OUT.

I don't think I was meant to beat Majora's Mask. :(

I'll probably start with Link to the Past, then when I buy a 3DS, start on Link's Awakening and OoT.

This is a great reason for them to re-release Majora's Mask on 3DS too. Wouldn't have to worry about the power cutting you off then.

Heh, I have never been able to get into MM myself. Something always comes up or I lose interest, etc. Guess I'll try again in the coming months.

I finished OoT 3D last week. Playing through MM again. I'm in Ikana Canyon right now getting the mirror shield. Fucking Gidbos...

I bought Links Awakening and Ocarina of Time for the 3DS, and I think thats where I will stop. If I try and chew through more I'll suffer burnout by the time Skyward Sword hits.

I had a friend over who was playing OoT3DS while I was working on MM. I told him, "YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD BE AWESOME? MM3DS."

Oh how I wish it was true. :(

I just started playing The Legend of Zelda on virtual channel two days ago, and I'm about to do dungeon 8. I guess I was somehow prepared for this day.

Since I just finished Phantom Hourglass and had a LTTP for that already, I'll just link to it when I finish LoZ.
I planned on playing Twilight Princess again this summer anyways, so this thread is looking like it was tailored just for me!
How did you know?

edit: bah, I'll link it now-

Phantom Hourglass finished after owning it for years.

Nice timing as I just delivered the final blow to Vaati in Minish Cap. I've also started up a link to the past playthrough and I'm just getting to the dark world.

The lack of CD-i Zelda int the OP is disturbing.

Oh, and any talk of Majora's Mask 3D depresses me. Until it's official and I hold the damn box in my hand, I won't believe.

Gold/ holographic cart plz :3

I tried playing through OoT with a friend(never beat it before) and I was seriously not liking it. I think I may have to try beating it myself.

AM I CRAZY GAF?

Great timing. Almost finished with Ocarina of Time 3DS right now.

I had played through The Wind Waker, Oracle of Seasons and A Link to the Past last year.

I could go through Majora's Mask, Link's Awakening, Twilight Princess and The Minish Cap if I have the time. I'd love to go through Zelda II again as well (with the GBA cart).

Forgot to mention I also have a playthrough of the original version of Ocarina going right now. When I played last I just arrived at the spirit temple.

I've been playing Twilight Princess lately, it's the first Zelda game I've played in a while (since Link to the Past). Just got the Master Sword, so far my feelings are mixed...it's a beautiful game, great atmosphere...but why is the platforming so tricky and the combat so easy? It seems more like what I imagine a Mario game should be like than a Zelda one in gameplay. Is this just what the Zelda series is about now?

Well I'm currently in the middle of Ocarina of Time 3D, I beat Wind Waker yesterday, and Spirit Track last week.

I haven't beaten Zelda and Zelda II yet, so I'll be playing though sometime before Skyward Sword.
I also need to play link's Awakening (Waiting for 3DS cards to show up in Canadian stores).
The recent Zelda threads have also made me want to play Twilight Princess again.

Finished OoT 3D last week, currently playing Link's Awakening.

I hope to at least finish Twilight Princess again before SS comes out, it's the only console Zelda I haven't finished numerous times.

The game must be cursed.
On my second playthrough of the game, I had something terrible happen that turned me off of playing it again for a couple of years.

I was at the point where I was doing the third temple, and I was nearing the end of the third day. I had finished the temple, gotten all of the fairies, finished the
haunted house
on the beach, and a few other things when my brother tripped and fell onto the tv. It was a crappy, little television and the picture went out.

I tried everything I could think of to get the image back, but the tv was gone. Sadly, I had no means of transporting another television into the room or hook the n64 up somewhere else. I had the honor of switching the power button off myself, erasing all of that work I had done that day.

I finally got over it after the years, and went back to replay it several times since then. It just broke my spirit for the game when it happened. I sure hope you get around to finishing it, though, because it's incredible.

I was already doing a Zelda series playthrough but stopped after Four Swords on GBA. I didn't beat it enough to unlock the new LttP dungeon and just quit. I actually started Wind Waker a few days ago. I keep thinking how amazing it would be if someone created a Fallout/Oblivion style game with a giant sea to explore.

I should also note that I finished Zelda, Zelda 2, Link to the Past, and Four Swords GBA.

Zelda 2 sucks

Might as well register my Ocarina of Time 3DS. Beat normal mode yesterday.

Well, an excuse to play more Zelda is never a bad thing, it's been a while since I last played some of them.

Finished OOT3D last week and am trying to chug through master quest as I speak. I also have Link's Awakening DX to finish off on 3DS.

Those two alone will keep me going for the summer and hopefully until Skyward Sword's release.

Platforming? I don't recall any hard platforming perhaps the 4th dungeon with the spinner.

Anyway no. The ease of combat and puzzles is one of it's biggest complaints. TP is widely panned by Zelda fans. However, it's an excellent game. How far into it are you?

I seriously hope Grezzo's next game will be Majora's Mask 3D.

Me too. Partially because I want the game, but partially because I want to read the Iwata Asks articles about its original development phase!

Playing Twilight Princess on the Wii right now, just on my way to Snowpeak. Will be playing Majora's Mask after this.

I beat Link's Awakening right before OoT3D came out and I just beat that today too.

I actually own all the Zelda games that came out on the Virtual Console and I have The Minish Cap, Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks. Phantom Hourglass is the only other one I beat.

Edit: Forgot I have Twilight Princess and beat that too.

all I want to read about it is

Iwata: so, you're aware this game is teh awesomest game ever?

Aonuma: yes, because it is

Iwata: (laughs)

Aonuma: (blinks)

man, I'd really want a Majora 3DS

I forgot how much fun the Igos du Ikana fight was. Good thing I remembered to wear the Captain's Hat for the secret dialog. Now the ascension of Stone Tower.

So much work just to get into the Temple. Christ.

Currently playing OoT on 3DS, but I turned off the game without saving and lost a lot of work, (including the entire shadow temple,) so I've cooled on it a bit. (Might try to sit down and redo some of it tonight. The wife watched me play it a bit and declared she wanted us to play through a Zelda on console, so we're playing MM on the VC. Neither of us has finished MM or TP, so I think TP will be our next game after MM.

Out of curiosity, I regularly see people proclaim Majora as the best Zelda game, and I'm curious why they say that. I'm not trying to start a fight or anything, as it is pretty cool and certainly very different from all of the other games, but I'm curious as to what other people would say.

EDIT: To clarify, I should point out that until this current run, I've never played any of Majora's Mask. So aside from as far as I've gotten (Goron temple, can't recall the name right now,) I know very little about this game.
