Journey (PS3) Public Beta discussion thread

5867597193_dcc3dba3c9_z.jpg

Disclaimer: No discussion of how to get keys! There's a thread for that.

The other thread resorted to key-begging, so I figured for people who have played it (or tried to...), why not start with a clean slate.

Where can I send feedback?

Feedback can be sent here: info@thatgamecompany.com
(thanks to alr1ghtstart)

I have made a loose template for emailing them, should you so desire...

(usual email greeting, blah blah, etc.)

Here are my system details:

-PlayStation 3 (Slim/Phat) console
-Model: CECHxxxxx
-Firmware: x.xx

Bug reports:

1. (example)

2. (example)

3. (example)

Impressions?

The only problem I had was getting the patch, which is fixed by waiting a minute. I had no freezes in the game.

This is a stress test, as well, but please submit your feedback and bug details to info@thatgamecompany.com

the only problem I have is with the sixaxis camera control. The camera is somewhat smart, but I really need to be able to change the cam with the right stick.

How long is left of tonights testing? I'm under the impression it will only be online for a specified period on the tuesdays, so there's not much time left? Or can we play offline too?

Can play offline, actually got kicked out PSN while starting it up but it didn't seem to care. Think the testing time is just when they hope to get a decent number online at once to test servers as well as have their guys play with some of the beta testers to see what they do.

Seems like it would be more interesting if more people were playing. I went through it and only encountered one other player.

It's only 2 players max anyway.

Me too. Right at the end (literally). Wario told me in the official thread that is what's supposed to happen (that you can only meet up with one other person).

Oh I didn't realize that. Seems kind of weird. I didn't really see any way to interact with the other person so I don't really know what the purpose of two players is anyways.

Co-op/interaction/artsy/etc

You can communicate with the circle button. Of course it's limited, which is intentional design

They've intentionally limited the potential to communicate with others, to see how people can interact in different ways

You guys are worrying me!
When you say only two players at a time, is that per game or just on screen at a time?
For example, if I've finished interacting with somebody and I run away in an opposite direction, am I able to encounter somebody else 5 minutes later?

I don't know but 2 players isn't required to play the game. It's just added oomph to the experience. I'm guessing it's doing some magic behind the scenes if you two get separated and spits you back into single player/finding another player, but I'm not quite sure.

I met someone quite early and we stuck together till the end of the beta.

Don't think so. And I think the reason for two players is there will be more puzzles in the actual game that require teamwork to solve (and it will be interesting to see how one solves them as you can't talk to your partner).

posted this in the looking for a key thread but it got buried with people asking for keys, anyways:

I got an invite for being an early adopter of Flower and a PS+ member.

I really did not want to to experience this game in beta form but I couldn't help it and broke down and played for 30 minutes before putting it down in fear of tarnishing my experience with the final version of the game.

From what I played this game will be amazing when it finally comes out, it's a very striking game in motion...it reminded me a lot of Windwaker but with sand instead of water as far as atmosphere and aesthetics go.

The scale is also impressive, as the world looks really expansive and seeing somethign off in the distance and knowing you can travel to it is satisfying.

From my short time of playing with it i got windwaker/ICO/SoTC vibes.

Cant wait for this game to get released.

Yeah, mine was going ok til fifty percent, and its just took twenty minutes to do two percent :/
Shit's dying on me

Same here, it should be done by now. I have decent internet here. It just took 15 minutes to get 1%. What the hell is wrong with it?

All of my game sessions ended due to a hard lockup, requiring a system shutdown (holding the power button for a few seconds). Most sessions lasted five minutes or less, but one session (the second or third one) went on for about a half hour, and I had even encountered another player (maybe two--I think one player disappeared and another joined in later). However, most of my later attempts at playing got me nowhere near that level of progress. One session crashed right on the title screen, and a couple others ended about 20-30 seconds after starting. I had about seven or eight hard lockups before I finally gave up for the night.

Are there beta forums on the official PlayStation Web site, or is info@thatgamecompany.com the only way to leave feedback? I remember there were beta forums on the PlayStation site in the past (as I had used them), but they revamped the forums there a few months ago, and the navigation is much more cumbersome. As a result, I can't even find the beta forums anymore. I think I've seen beta forums not too long ago when I came upon them by accident, but now that I have a reason to use them, I can't get to them.

this game is just beautiful. just like flow and flower, it's one of the more relaxing experiences ever.
but i will be sending an email to TGC to see if we can convince them to use the right analog stick for the camera view, that's the only problem i have with the game. apart from that, i'm REALLY glad this game exists.

Thanks for the answers :)
As long as you can have multiple partners at separate times throughout a single game session then I'm happy. Connecting with one other person and then not being able to meet anybody else until the next time you played was what I feared.
I'm so jealous of you all, flower is perhaps my favourite game of this gen!

Works for your sex life too!

the game froze on me twice
but after disconnecting it from my router, it ran perfectly the 3rd time

from what i played
it was quite great
looked stunning
and the music really complemented it

wish i could've played it online
but guess i'll save some experience for the final release

Total download time was approx 2 hours. For 350 MBs. What the hell is going on there?

Looking forward to playing it though. Thanks again Giriath, sorry for giving you a hard time.

Downloading now.

If any GAFfers wanna add me, I'm digitalensemble on PSN

I'm looking at you Indigo, *sabres fist bump*

FYI:

@thatgamecompany
We have a network issue tonight. If your game crashes, disable the network connection. You can play through solo, and try again tomorrow. :D

Naw, it's alright. In retrospect I could have done the distribution a bit better.

I could have kept a few dummies for myself and used those for my redeems, and let everyone else do what they wished with those I gave them.

Would still have had to worry about people sharing with friends and/or hijacking though, even if I sent them in PM's in order of the list.

The freezes are irritating. It's so much fun when you finally spot a player--and then it freezes because they're having network issues (thatgamecompany are). I'll solo it and try co-op some other day.

magical. something special when you see another character and you work together without speaking.

It is. After an early freeze I made it to the second stage and finally saw a player. I ran up to him and together we
unlocked the bridge
. Then it froze and I was sad. :(

Wow. Amazing. Having no way to communicate other than chirps works really well, made me realize how much voice chat/gamertags completely take you out of a games environment.
