NYC GAF Bar Night Meetup - Saturday July 23rd (TOMORROW) - MIDTOWN

WHAT: NeoGAF Bar Meetup, Saturday, July 23rd, 7pm - ?

WHERE: Latitude Bar and Grill - Hell's Kitchen - 783 8TH AVENUE [BETWEEN 47TH & 48TH]

WHEN: Tomorrow night, Saturday, July 23rd, 7pm - ?

WHO CAN COME: If you're reading this (and 21, or have a good enough fake ID), you can come

IM' NERVOUS ABOUT MEETING A BUNCH OF WEIRDOS: The times i've met GAF members IRL, I have always found them to be genuinely nice, normal people. And if someone shows up wearing a Pikachu costume and hentai-themed sneakers; we'll survive. (but hopefully it won't come to that.... hopefully it will?!?!)

HOW WILL I FIND THE GAF MEMBERS AT THE BAR: I will get there reasonably early, secure a table, and will print out a little GAF logo, paste it on my shirt. When you get there, if you aren't sure who to look for, just find the guy with the small GAF logo crudely attached to wrinkly shirt.


There are a ton of GAF members in the NYC / NJ local area. Whenever these things are discussed here, Twitter, Facebook, etc., there is always lots of people interested, but I think they need some planning, and just basic encouragement that if you show up, you can at least expect to be greeted by some nice people and enjoy a friendly evening.

If this goes well, we could try to make it a regular-ish thing.

Remember, the only reason this won't be a lot of fun is if everyone sits in front of their computer thinking: "im' worried nobody will show up... I think i'll sit this out," and it becomes a self-fulfilling thing. Just relax, come on down, and meet some like-minded people in the NYC/NJ local area.

Please post if you are (i) confirmed going to attend, (ii) possibly attending, (iii) not able to attend, but would seriously consider attending a future meetup.
 
Excellent, thanks for picking the place. I'm 90% sure that I'll be there.

You should do Bar Nine too. Better "vibe" for GAF. Latitude is kinda lame/bridge&tunnel

edit: Didn't mean that to sound negative. Bar Nine is just around the corner, so if you're planning on bar hopping, I suggest checking it out!

That whole area is cool... Valhalla has an amazing beer selection, and you can do flights cheap (the place is kinda small though).
 
Oh come on guys, I have to go to my friend's birthday party in the lower east side. How long are you guys plan on staying out? Put me in for might attend (unlikely but might) and interested for future meetups.

Maybe for me. Might be able to bring girls as well. I'm going out with some friends to celebrate one of them taking the CPA, so I'll do my best to convince them to come.

Tell your friend godspeed. I plan on procrastinating on that for as long as I can.
 
Wish I could do this but can't. Not being 21 sucks only a few months though but I will be moving in a few weeks. Will do a meet up some time in December though for NYC.
 
I will definitely be there. I'm about 45 minutes away (I live in Washington Heights) from Times Square. I just gotta find out how much are the drinks so I could bring enough money. I'll be willing to buy a beer or two, and the prices of the meals are pretty good. As I've mentioned before, I've met a couple of GAF members in person and they were cool people so don't be shy; after all we're all GAFers, so we have something in common already. And I also said that I'll bring my camera along if you guys want me to.

Also I posted this in the last thread but I'll post here again. It's basically the Killscreen Movie Film Festival which will be showing several short films revolving around video games/developers. So here's an idea for the next meet up if you are guys are interested although I don't know the meet up is gonna be a weekly thing or something else.

I think domestic drafts are $3.75 or something during happy hour, which is pretty good compared to other places I've been lately.

Cool. I've paid 5-6 bucks a pop for Coronas at Latin food restaurants/lounges which is what I typically go to so that's pretty damn good to know.

In NYC we have these great things called ATMs which exist by the dozens on every block. Check it.

20 minutes? It takes me 20 minutes to walk down from the 4th floor and get my mail. Be a man!
 
I may or may not make an appearance. I'm not one for message board meetups, but I might give it a shot.

I live in Albany, and I was planning on making my first trip to Montreal tomorrow, but I think I'm going to postpone that until next month and go down to NYC instead.

I can't guarantee I'll be there (if I get tired of the heat, I might end up going home early), but I'll try.

Hmmmm I live in Brooklyn. Not sure if I wanna train it to the city tomorrow. I will cosplay as poison from street fighter.
 
I might go if I feel like it. I'm one of gaf's depressed social anxiety etc. types but i've been trying to break out of that so this would be a good start. But then once it approaches I get lazy and play TF2 instead. I'll see if I feel up to it tomorrow. If people go they're gonna have to introduce themselves by what their avatar is lol because I can hardly remember people's names unless they're 'famous' on gaf for something.

I used to suffer from some pretty bad social anxiety and wouldn't go out unless forced by my roommates. Luckily, meeting my girlfriend a few years back helped a lot with that, but you kinda have to force yourself sometimes or you'll never have any fun or enjoy anything.

All of us have a common interest so there's nothing to be tense about. I can definitely relate to what you're saying though. I actually didn't move to NYC until a few weeks ago and don't know anyone apart from coworkers.

This would be perfect then. Some of us act like assholes on here, but I doubt that would be the case in real life. You already have things in common with people going, and everyone's going for the same reason... to meet each other.

There's no doubt that going out tomorrow would be more enjoyable than playing TF2, and it might even have more positive effects in the future.

It's going to be hot as fuck, so just talk bout the weather if you're nervous.
 
Think I'm gonna pass, it's is fucking hot, I'm a fatty, that is a deadly combination

Maybe something in the fall or winter when my polar bear blubber has a positive aspect to it

Apologies, I misspoke. I forgot to mention I had things going on this weekend, hence I'll try to make it tomorrow.
 
I live next to Albany, but I'm actually going the opposite way tomorrow to meet up with my CEO and some other guys I work with in Saratoga for sushi and sake... sorry GAF.
