Not sure what is causing this, but it's been happening randomly for 2 days now.

Happens every time the Home Depot ad is in.

Only happened to me once after the "Announcement" appeared. I thought it was because of that, but I haven't had a problem since.

Some ads are probably floated left. You need a <div></div> with clear:both after the div (that has the ad in it) to fix this / prevent this.

Haven't had this particular issue but I have noticed the ads have been making this site really laggy. The site will load minus the ad and I can't actually browse until the ads appear. It's quite annoying.

browser, os, try refreshing, try clearing cache, etc.

I've had it happen a few times but normally when I refresh it goes away, and it's on a machine with a very weird combination of addons (HTTPS Everywhere especially tends to wreak havoc on certain stuff)

Clearing cache doesn't work, it still happens. I'm on Chrome, by the way. Windows 7 and OS X Lion.

Mine isn't as extreme as having site elements pushed aside, though. Jus the ads being on the side.

Not as bad as the neogaf ads that start playing music in the middle of thread browsing. Ugh. I hope I'm not the only one that's had that happen to them.

I'm pretty sure many Gaffers use adblockers without realising its an offence members have been banned for (permanently?).

Ban jokes aside, if you encounter a malicious ad, you can use AdBlock to manually block it while allowing the non-malicious ads to continue displaying.
